Chapter 89: Don’t Leave Me Alone Again
He knew. He just didn’t care because he needed some way to vent.
“The present result shows that Mrs. Sandler is healthy according to all the criteria listed here. But she is thinner than she is supposed to be, so maybe you should pay more attention to her diet. In general, according to Mrs. Sandler’s current physical condition and unforeseen complications aside, she will give birth to a healthy baby.” The doctor said with a bright smile.
Francis breathed a sigh of relief and shook the doctor’s hands again, “Thanks a lot!”
The doctor smiled. “Mrs. Sandler seemed a little anxious today. Remember, it’s important for a pregnant woman to be looked after with utmost care.”
“Yes, of course. Thank you, doctor.” Francis nodded.
When they walked out of the hospital, it was already dark. Scarlett followed Francis, but she was hardly paying attention. She was lost in thought.
Francis stopped to wait for her and held her waist, “Everything’s fine, don’t worry, okay? I’m going to make sure everything is okay.”
“Yeah, that’s nice.” Scarlett smiled and said. She was distracted.
Francis stretched out his hand to rub her face, “But you still look worried, Scarlett. What’s wrong? Please, just talk to me.”
“No, I’m fine…” Scarlett pulled at his sleeve. But suddenly, tears came to her eyes, and she started to cry. “I don’t know why, I just feel like crying all the time these days….”
“It’s probably just the hormones. It’s okay, babe. I’m here for you.” Francis hugged her and put her head on his chest.NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
“Francis…” She looked sad, and tears kept trickling down her face.
“It’s okay, babe. Don’t be afraid.” Francis said.
“I’m afraid I won’t be a good mother. I’m so capricious and careless, I… I remembered I smoked and I drank alcohol before I knew I was pregnant. Will it affect our baby’s health? I’m so afraid, Francis.”
“Doctor said she’s healthy, babe, don’t worry. But you should probably avoid smoking and drinking, especially during the pregnancy… or once and for all! Don’t be picky about food. You’re too thin, and you need to eat more!” Francis recited what the doctor had told him at the office.
Scarlett looked at him with watery eyes.
“Baby, parenting is really hard, but we learn along the way, you know? We learn and progress step by step, okay? My Scarlett is so clever, and I believe she will be a great mother! And the baby will have a great father too! So I’m not even worried.”
Scarlett laughed and punched him jokingly. “Loser,” she muttered.
“Well, well, I’m a real loser. I didn’t protect you well enough or give you enough sense of security. Don’t…don’t leave me alone again, okay? No one in this world needs you more than I do.”
His voice was gentle. His eyes were clear, like a lake. “No one needs him more than I do.” Scarlett thought to herself.
“I love you.” Scarlett kissed him on the lips.
Before Francis kissed her back, Scarlett questioned, “Wait. Did you just say, “She’s healthy”? So you’re expecting a baby girl, aren’t you?”
“I want a little princess as beautiful as you. Boys are too naughty. When Chuck was little…Jeez, you can’t imagine how he turned the house upside down.”
“Oh, I see.” Scarlett lowered her head.
“You want a little boy, do you?” Francis put his big hand on her abdomen.
Scarlett pouted. Francis laughed and held Scarlett’s face and looked into her eyes. “You’ll always be the one and only princess in our family, okay? Even if we have a little baby girl.”
“I love you the most in the world, Scarlett… forever.”

Now that Scarlett had a little life growing inside of her, she had become class A protected goods. Francis had, overnight, become doubly worried and cautious about keeping her safe at all times. In fact, if he could have, he would have liked to take her to the office and handcuff her to himself.
“No need to be so paranoid, honey. I’m perfectly fine staying at home. Nothing’s gonna happen to me.” Scarlett rejected Francis’s suggestion as she walked quickly to the sofa. She stumbled over some wires and almost fell down.
Francis strode forward and held her tight, “Oh, really? Just look at you. How can I feel safe leaving you at home? You might as well be tripping on flat surfaces. Get ready, and we’ll be leaving in twenty minutes.”
Scarlett pouted. She wanted to convey to Francis that she was unwilling to do as he said.
“Nope, that pout isn’t gonna work on me this time. This is an order, you careless little girl. Hurry up! Let’s go already.” Francis ignored her rejection.
Francis’s secretary, Amanda Howard, was much more nervous than him. After Francis entered the conference room, she hurried to stand by Scarlett’s side and waited for her instructions.
“Go on with what you’re doing, Amanda. I’m doing very well. Don’t worry about me, please.” Scarlett held a plate of nuts in front of her. She munched noisily.
“Would you like something to drink, Scarlett?” Amanda, a highly qualified secretary who was used to dealing with business matters and a demanding boss every day, had lost her ease and clever skillfulness in front of her boss’s pregnant wife. Amanda knew that everyone was watching closely and that Francis was made ecstatic by the prospects of fatherhood. She felt heavily burdened– she had to go above and beyond to take good care of Scarlett.
“Um, sure. I’d love a French hazelnut latte…” Scarlett thought for a moment and remembered that there was a Starbucks downstairs.
Amanda responded to her command hurriedly, “Okay. You got it. I’ll be right back with your beverage.”
“Thank you so much.” Scarlett smiled at her.
Before leaving, Amanda walked to the bookshelf, picked a large pile of books, and put them in front of Scarlett. “In case you get bored, here are some books I picked up that are about motherhood. These two are picture books with vivid illustrations, and they’re quite easy to follow.”
Scarlett put down the plate and picked up one book from the large pile. “Thank you, Amanda. You’re so sweet and considerate. I really appreciate it.”
