Chapter 36 You Are Afraid of Me?

In a flash. Kerwin leaned over her. His muscular body was on top of her, enveloping her with his

strong masculinity.

“Kerwin, please…”

Betty was so scared that she wanted to cry, but the next second everything she wanted to say was blocked by Kerwin’s thin lips.

His kiss was dominant with a mildly punishing pleasure that left Betty with nowhere to run.

This feeling made Betty involuntarily recall what had happened two years ago. Suddenly, she trembled with fear, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Kerwin seemed to notice her trembling. He looked up, only to find that her eyes were filled with

tears.

He froze suddenly

Then he didn’t go further, braced himself with his hands on either side of her. “You’re afraid of

me?” asked he in a low voice, looking at her.

Betty wrapped her hands around her bare shoulders, shivering, and said nothing.

Suddenly, Kerwin felt all the heat and desire in him disappear, as if he had been poured with cold

water from head to toe.

He let go of the trembling woman beneath him. She looked pale with tears in her eyes, which made him feel a little sting in his heart.

Damn it, what the hell did I do? Kerwin thought. He was really sorry for this.

“Betty, I’m…” said he in a gentler voice. Then he reached out to help her up, but as soon as he got close to her, she shivered and avoided his hand, as if she felt a shock.

Her involuntary evasion made Kerwin even more upset.

“You need some rest,” said Kerwin. He really did not know what to say, so he turned around and left

the room.

After Kerwin left, Betty lay on the bed for a long time before sitting up.

Two years had passed since that incident. She thought she had gotten rid of the shadow of that night

two years ago. But she didn’t expect that once a man came near her, she couldn’t help but think

about what happened two years ago.

That night, Kerwin did not come back.

The next morning, Betty hesitated for a long time before going downstairs. As she wondered how to face Kerwin, she learned from Maria that Kerwin went abroad for a business trip in the middle of

last night.

Betty froze. Looks like Kerwin also feels that it is hard to face me right now.

Betty couldn’t figure out what Kerwin was thinking about last night. She certainly didn’t think that Kerwin had feelings for her. In her mind, last night, Kerwin was just showing his status as her

husband.

She and Jeffrey were in a complicated relationship, so Kerwin got angry and tried to have sex with her to prove that she was his woman.

Also, to Betty’s surprise, Kerwin’s leg didn’t seem as badly injured as she thought.

Betty sighed, then stopped thinking about it. She quietly finished her breakfast and went to work.

When she arrived at the office, Betty saw that her colleagues were very busy. She hurriedly asked them what had happened. It turned out that the biggest magazine in Houston, with which they were going to cooperate, had folded up, causing their cooperation plan, which had been prepared for half a year, to fall apart.

The magazine in Houston? Is it the magazine where Mr. Cooper is the editor-in-chief? Betty wondered

She hurried to look it up on the Internet and was surprised.

That magazine was huge. It was said to have influential backers behind it. Recently, it was sued by Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g

many people. Mr. Cooper, who sexually harassed Betty in Houston, was also convicted of fake reports and defamation. Finally, he lost everything.

Such dramatic events make Betty suspect that someone did something to bring down the magazine.

Could Kerwin have done this? The thought popped out of her head. Then she shook her head hurriedly.

Although she was Kerwin’s nominal wife, she and Kerwin did not know each other well, and they were not even friends.

It is good enough for him to show up in time to help me that night. How could I expect him to punish Mr. Cooper for my sake? With that in mind, Betty thought that it was the God that punished the wicked.

The magazine in Houston’s closed down, so Betty’s magazine had to change the layout of its next issue. After Betty finishes revising her part, Nicole asked her to send it to Jeffrey for his review.

Betty wanted to refuse this. After what happened in Houston, she really didn’t want to see Jeffrey again.

Jeffrey had insulted her again and again. This time she was completely disappointed in him.

She didn’t understand why Jeffrey would give her to a man like Mr. Cooper.

How terrible am I in his eyes that he would let other man harass me? Betty was confused.

She had fondness and expectation for Jeffrey before. Now Jeffrey had ruined all the good images he had in her mind.

She didn’t want to see Jeffrey, but she also knew that refusing to see him wouldn’t solve the

problem.

All along, I do nothing wrong. Why should I avoid seeing him? Thinking of this, she gritted her teeth, took the revised magazine, and walked to Jeffrey’s office.

After entering the office, Betty didn’t look at him. “Mr. Jeffrey, this is the new layout of the magazine,” said she impassively.

After saying that, she turned to leave.

“Wait.”

Jeffrey suddenly spoke without the least emotion.

Betty stood there and did not turn around. “What’s up?” said she coldly.

“Don’t you have anything to explain?” Jeffrey’s voice became louder. He stood up and walked

towards Betty.

“Explain what?”

“A lot. Like, why did you leave Houston that night without telling me?” Jeffrey said coldly. He already stood behind her. “Besides, what exactly is your relationship with Kerwin?”

Betty trembled involuntarily. She turned around and saw Jeffrey’s cold face.

“How do you know about this?” asked Betty in a trembling voice.

Jeffrey knew I was married to Kerwin? Did Kerwin tell him this? Betty was a little flustered.

Although she and Kerwin did not fulfill their marriage obligations, she still did not know how to face Jeffrey. After all, Kerwin was Jeffrey’s uncle and she was Jeffrey’s first love.

“You mean your relationship with Kerwin?” Suddenly, Jeffrey sneered and approached Betty. “It doesn’t matter how I know about this. The important thing is that you should keep it in mind that you are married and that Kerwin is also married!”

Betty, who had been panicking, froze when she heard Jeffrey.

What did Jeffrey mean by this? She thought.

Betty’s silence angered Jeffrey, who grabbed her by the shoulders.

“Betty, say something!” his voice sharpened as he shook her violently.

“Why do you turn into like this? You cheated on your husband and also ruined someone else’s family. Where’s the Betty I once knew?”
