Contract Marriage With The Disabled CEO By Woody Rain Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Chapter 20 Department Transfer Application
Kerwin’s voice was cold and distant. But Betty sensed the intimidation in his remarks.
In particular, Betty couldn’t read what Kerwin was thinking through his calm and deep eyes.
For a moment, Kerwin applied some ointment on Betty’s wounds. Betty lowered her eyes and said, “Thank you.”
“It’s nothing.” Kerwin put away the ointment calmly. “I don’t like other men laying a finger on you.”
Betty was stunned.
Although she didn’t mention a single word about her past, it seemed that Kerwin already knew everything
Feeling the coolness of the ointment on her chin, Betty suddenly realized that Kerwin was a lot more domineering and elusive than she had imagined.
“I know.” Betty’s palms sweated unconsciously. She had no choice but lowered her head and gave
Kerwin a short and quick reply.
“Get some rest.” Kerwin maneuvered his wheelchair away and said, “I’ll sleep in the guest room
tonight.”
Then he left the room before Betty could say anything.
Lying on the soft bed, Betty was wide awake.
The next day, Betty felt much better after receiving a drip infusion. She decided to go to work. But when she got up to pack up, she found that her old bag was nowhere to be found but replaced by a Chanel handbag
IS
“Lillian…” When Betty was wondering what happened, Lillian came upstairs to clean the room. So she asked, “Where’s my bag?”
“Mrs. Martin, your old bag was damaged in the rain yesterday. Mr. Martin sent someone to buy a new bag for you.”
Betty felt that the bag in her hand became a hot potato,
She knew that the bag cost tens of thousands of dollars. She couldn’t afford it with her current
salary
However, her old bag had been thrown away. And she had no other bag for an alternate. The new Chanel one was her only choice.
Alter finishing breakfast downstairs, Betty was ready to go. As she was about to hail a car on her
phone, Kerwin stopped her. “You have not recovered yet. I’ll get you to the company today.”
“No,” Betty was a bit panicked. “I…”
Before she finished, Kerwin had maneuvered his wheelchair to the door, leaving her no time to
react.
Betty had no choice but to get in the car.
Fortunately, Kerwin went to work earlier than her. So when she arrived at the company in Kervin’s Bentley, there was no one downstairs. After saying goodbye, Betty got off the car in a hurry.
Kerwin watched her back going into the company, and a trace of gloominess flashed in his eyes.
What was with the hurry? Was she afraid of others knowing their relationship?
After going into the office building, Betty got on the elevator just in time. But as soon as she entered, she found that there was only Jeffrey in the elevator.
“Sorry.” Betty wanted to get off the elevator by instinct, but Jeffrey pressed the button to close the door immediately.
“Why are you avoiding me?” Jeffrey sneered. “We work in the same department. It’s no use to hide.”
Biting her lip, Betty said nothing.
Jeffrey looked down at Betty. Her face was still pale because of illness and she coughed sometimes.
Jeffrey felt a pain in his heart.
Damn it.
Why did he still care about Betty even though he knew what she did in the past?
“Are you having a cold?” Jeffrey asked coldly.
“Yes,” she answered briefly and immediately walked out as soon as the door opened.
After going to his office, Jeffrey still felt a bit distressed. In the end, he couldn’t help calling his secretary. “Buy me some anti-cold medicine.”
Jeffrey got the cold medicine a moment later. After holding it in his hand for a long while, Jeffrey
finally decided to give it to Betty.
As he passed by the coffee room, he suddenly heard the talk of several female colleagues inside. NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
“Tina, you are saying that Betty was dropped off by a black Bentley this morning for work. Is that true?”
“Of course. Sarah also saw it. She can prove it.”
“Huh? I heard that her husband is not rich. How come he has such a fancy car?”
“You are talking nonsense. It couldn’t be her husband. You saw her cheap wedding ring. I guess it was some other man who driven her here.”
“Besides, did you notice her bag today? A Chanel bag. She used to use a cheap handbag. How come she has a Chanel all of a sudden? She must get a man to buy it for her!”
Jeffrey, outside the coffee room, clenched his fist subconsciously.
He suddenly felt he was the most stupid man in the world to buy her medicine. He threw the medicine into the garbage can and returned to his office.
Betty had printed out the application form for department transfer. She came to the door of Jeffrey’s office anxiously.
She had decided to leave the editorial department.
The editorial department was the core of Filson Magazine. She made great efforts in the past two years to gain a firm foothold in this department. But now, she couldn’t work for Jeffrey any longer. So she was willing to be transferred to other auxiliary departments,
Summoning up all her courage, she knocked on the door. And then Jeffrey’s voice came to her, “Come in.”
Betty came in and saw that Jeffrey was quickly checking the samples of the next issue of the Filson Magazine. Seeing Betty, he raised his eyebrows and asked, “What’s up?”
“I want to transfer to another department.”
Betty handed Jeffrey the application form directly.
An unobtrusive gloominess flashed in Jeffrey’s eyes. “I won’t approve.”
