Chapter 100 Jeffrey, Thank You!

Betty had no choice. So she let Peter push her

in.

At the sight of Betty, Emily’s tears dried up and her eyes swelled with jealousy.

Jeffrey looked at his fiancée and quickly said, “Emily, you may go out and wait for a

while.”

Emily was reluctant to do so. But he insisted. So she could do nothing but obey his request. Before leaving th e ward, she gave Betty a ferocious stare.

Seeing this, Peter went out as well.

Soon only Betty and Jeffrey were left in the ward.

She looked at his pale face. And she noticed his leg was in plaster and there were many burns on his f ace and arms. She knew there must be more wounds in him, which were covered by the clothes so tha t she couldn’t

But she managed to constrain her emotions and whispered, “Jeffrey, thank you for saving me this time. ”

Jeffrey looked at Betty, and replied calmly, “Yeah, you should. I can’t believe you just went back into the room to get the necklace like you were crazy. If it weren’t for me, you would have died there.”

Hearing what Betty said and what she called herself “unworthy“, Jeffrey was so irritated. Though he ke pt telling himself he must control his temper, he failed.

He got up from the bed, reached out his hand which was still wrapped in bandage. He grasped Betty’s chin, forced her to look up at him, and said in a cold voice, “Betty, I won’t let you call yourself unworthy. Besides, it is not up to you to decide. I have the final say. Do you understand?”

Betty looked at Jeffrey in front of her. The

love and tenderness for her were all palpable

in his gaze.

She couldn’t help panicking.

No, it must not happen.

She knew deeply that it was impossible between her and Jeffrey.

Thinking of this, she shuddered a little. Then she quickly broke away from Jeffrey’s grip

and said angrily, “Jeffrey, mind your own behavior. Don’t forget that I am supposed to be your aunt now. ”

The two words gave Jeffrey a chill.

Betty took the opportunity to break away from him. Then she frowned and said, “Jeffrey, you are about t o marry Emily. I hope today’s farce won’t happen again.”

With that, she looked away and wheeled out of the ward, leaving Jeffrey sitting on the

sickbed alone.

Outside the ward, Betty held her wheelchair, leaned against the wall and breathed heavily.

Jeffrey’s agitated reaction made her sick in her heart. It made her feel so bitter but she

couldn’t tell what emotion it was.

Back then, when Jeffrey tried to torture and insult himself, she thought he just harbored

the hatred for her betrayal and wanted to

revenge her.

But that day, she knew that she was wrong when she looked into Jeffrey’s eyes. She could see his tenderness in them. Also, he had tried desperately to save her.

All of the evidence proved that he still loved her. He was totally not over her.

He tortured her before because he wasn’t

over her; he expected something more that

he shouldn’t have been expecting after

knowing the truth because he wasn’t over

her.

But there was no hope between them.

She had become his aunt, and he was about to become her brother–in– law. They were destined to be the most familiar strangers in

the world.

The feeling of bitterness seemed to be stirring in her heart, which made it almost unbearable for her.

She thought Jeffrey might be the one who she might spend with the rest of her lifetime. But she didn’t e xpect they would end up like this.

As soon as Betty wheeled out the ward, Emily came out of some corner to stop her before Peter came t o push her back.

Emily’s bright face was dampened by her tears. She bit her lips and said grudgingly, “Betty, I want to talk to you.”

Betty knew Emily too well. She knew Emily wouldn’t let go of her if she didn’t talk to Emily. So she had to restrain her sadness and say to Peter, “You may go back first.”

Peter looked at Emily distrustfully and said in a low voice, “Mrs. Martin, I will be right at the entrance of t he corridor. If you need any help, just call me.”

Betty nodded.

As soon as Peter left, Emily cast away her

disguise and directly shouted at Betty, “Betty

White! You are a shameless woman. When

will you stop flirting with Jeffrey?”

Betty looked at Emily calmly and said, “Emily, why did you say so? I have no intention of flirting with hi m.”

“Of course you are flirting with him, you
