Hannah practically drags me with her into the house.
“What is going on?” I ask the moment she lets me go.
“Kian’s marriage, you need to talk to him.”
Of course, Hannah knows what’s going on.
“Look, if you’re going to tell me to convince him not to sign those divorce papers, then-*
Hannah’s face scrunches up before I can complete the statement. “What? No! I don’t care about that gold digging lowlife girl. In fact, I am glad she is finally out of my son’s life. She never deserved him and he is about to lose the one woman who truly deserves him because he can’t get over that lowlife!”
Hearing my sister talk about Leslie in such a demeaning way makes my blood boil. Is this what Leslie put up with all these years? I know Hannah can be handful but I never thought she would treat Leslie terribly.
I don’t react to the words, glad that my sister and I are on the same page for the first time. I want Kian out of Leslie’s life as badly as she wants it too.
“Maybe if you talk to him, he’ll listen to you. Beverly is a really sweet girl and did you know she’s pregnant with his child? My grandchild! The girl was here just before you came and even though she tried to hide it, I saw how hurt she looked because she was neglected by that silly son of mine until she was forced to leave. You have to convince him to let go of that gold digger and marry Beverly.”
I can’t bear to listen to anymore of my sister’s grating and utterly shameless words. Her son cheated and
is having a child out of wedlock and yet another marriage is all she can think of. I sigh, resisting the urge to yell at her and calmly choosing my next words
“That’s enough, Hannah. And no, I have no desire to talk to Kian.”
“Talk to me about what?” Kian appears at the top of the stairs in his house, looking from me to his mother in confusion. I leave Hannah standing and meet him at the top of the stairs.
“What are you doing here?” He says with a hint of hostility in his eyes and the tone of his voice. The feeling is definitely mutual but I refuse to show it with Hannah watching us like a hawk.
“Let’s take this somewhere else.” I say. He takes the hint and leads me to his study, closing the door behind us
“Care to tell me why you show up at my house unannounced after the stunt you pulled with my wife yesterday?”
My fist clenches at the nerve of him, calling Leslie his wife but I control the urge to send the clenched fist flying to his face.
You have made a mistake, Kian and you need to own up to it and bear the consequences. Sign those papers and let Leslie go.”
His response is an annoyed scoff.
“Or what? What are you going to do if I don’t sign the papers, uncle? Because I won’t! This is between me and Leslie and it has absolutely nothing to do with you
My blood boils at his stubbornness, “If you keep this up, it might be the end of the partnership between the two companies.” I threaten and his eyes grow wide at my outburst. The tension between us thickens and he closes the gap between us in a burst of annoyance and an attempt to intimidate me that fails miserably because of our similarity in height.
“Are you crazy? You are going to end a partnership that has been on for years because of my marriage and what I choose to fucking do with it?”
This brat..
He is right about the partnership being in existence long before he and I became the heads of the respective companies but I do not give a damn about that
“You heard me loud and clear, Kian. Sign the papers quietly or watch the end of our partnership hit the news and watch reporters dig into the reason until they find out what you have done. Are you really going to drag Leslie through that mud with you even after everything you have done?”
He falls silent as if contemplating it but then he looks at me with eyes filled with suspicion.
“Why does it bother you anyway? You show up after three years and think you know it all, what is going on between you and Leslie? Huh? Why the hell did she disappear for an entire week only for her to show up with you?”
His questions make it really hard to keep holding back my anger. Just how low does he think of Leslie? He shows no remorse for his misdeeds and I’ve really had enough of this
Fuck it. I clench my fist even tighter, ready to finally land him that blow to the face but my phone rings at that moment. My anger simmers down when I see Leslie’s father’s name on the screen
He speaks as soon as I answer the phone, “Travis,”
His voice is shaky and my anger is totally replaced with worry now
“Is something wrong sir?” I ask, turning away from my bephew who is still glowering at me.
“It’s Leslie,” Silence accompanied by two shaky breaths and then, I think she’s in danger.”
