Chapter 47
Chapter 47
However, all he heard was the same indifferent female voice telling him that her phone was switched off.
For a moment, Arthur felt like he had travelled back in time to five years ago when he had heard the news reporting the plane crash. He had no choice but to accept the reality that she had left him.
Holding his phone with trembling hands, he asked Chad to go check on Lizbeth while he called Lucy again and again.
"The phone has been switched off."
"The phone has been switched off."
"The phone has been switched off." Still.
Arthur went cold all over, and he trembled even harder. "Go faster!"
"Sir, the speed limit is 60 kilometers per hour. There's a speed camera ahead. I'm going to be caught if I drive too fast." The driver explained patiently.
Even so, Arthur might not be patient enough to listen. He sat forward and fought to grab the steering wheel through the metal barrier.
"What... what are you trying to do?" The car swerved around and nearly hit a truck! The driver nearly got frightened to death!
"Stop the car and get off!" Arthur was under a lot of tension. He wished that they were already at Lindbarry Chateau so he could check if Lucy was there.
The driver valued his life over money. He raised his hands and got out of the car shakily. "Sir, I'll get off now! Calm down! What do you want from me? Money? Don't worry, I won't call the cops. Safety first, just let me go..."
Arthur got out and walked to the driver's side, ignoring the driver who thought he was being robbed. He stepped on the gas and roared away.
Looking at the car zoom away as fast as lightning, the driver was terrified. He wiped the cold sweat on his forehead and fished out his phone to call the cops. "Hello, is this 911? I want to report a crime!"
Arthur drove at the speed of light the entire way to Lindbarry Chateau.
However, before he reached Lindbarry Chateau, he spotted the Audi with its dented hood.
He hoped to get lucky one last time and looked towards the car plate. When he saw the number clearly, his heart constricted and fear swallowed him.
"How something like this happen? No, she must be fine!" Arthur muttered and parted the crowd. The only image in his mind was the ruined Audi...and the obvious bloodstains under the car.
The people who got pushed aside felt annoyed and wanted to scold him, but when they saw who he was, they swallowed their words and quietly let him pass.
"Mr. Johnson, what brings you here?" The policeman felt trauma just by looking at that red Audi.
Arthur stared at the blood on the ground in a daze, and he asked in a shaky voice, "Where's the driver?"
He looked at the policeman and already asked the question, but he was afraid of hearing an answer he didn't want to hear. His heart was in his mouth.
"I heard from the onlookers that a car collided with the red Audi. The driver who caused the accident said that his car had gone out of control. The Audi's driver sustained injuries on her leg and has been taken to the hospital by the two drivers who hit her."
Arthur licked his dry lips, and his hands that were hanging down by his sides were trembling slightly. "Are you sure she was taken to the hospital?"
"Don't worry about that. The crowd took photos of the license plates of the two cars who hit her. They won't commit a hit and run!" The policemen showed Arthur the photos. "Here, these are their number plates. You can check which hospital they've taken the lady to." NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.
Thank goodness they were so cooperative!
Arthur didn't dwell on it and called Max at once to investigate which hospital Lucy had been taken to.
...
Lizbeth was wearing a tailormade suit, flawless makeup, and a pair of oversized sunglasses. Her trendy outfit and pretty figure attracted many gazes.
She had long gotten used to those kinds of gazes. She lowered her head and continued reading the text on her phone. Although she had already read it ten times, she didn't feel tired of it,.
"We've already taken her to the appointed location. I'll send you the video once it's done. Get the money ready for us!"
After admiring the text for the fiftieth time, Lizbeth finally sent a reply in a good mood.
"Okay."
Since that b*stard child wasn't enough to ruin Lucy and Arthur's relationship, then she would make another!
When Arthur saw Lucy getting involved in a threesome, Lizbeth was certain that he would cast Lucy aside!
"Hey, you seem fine?"
She suddenly heard a voice from behind her. Lizbeth was so frightened that she quickly put down her phone, and her face went pale.
When she saw that it was Chad standing beside her, she felt angry and nervous at the same time. "Chad, why are you secretly looking at my phone?"
She wasn't sure if Chad had read the text.
Actually, it didn't mean anything even if Chad saw the "okay" she had sent. Even so, she was feeling so nervous.
"I wasn't looking at your phone, okay? I wouldn't be bothered to look even if you showed it to me!" Chad didn't like Lizbeth at all. She was too pampered, and she thought the world revolved around her!
Arthur had called and said that she was having a heart attack, but looking at her right then...it was obviously a lie!
"So you didn't see anything?"
"I already told you that I wasn't looking and can't be bothered to! What's wrong with you?"
Lizbeth was relieved. Only then did she remember her "heart attack" incident and quickly put on a pained expression. "Why are you here? Where's Arthur? My...my heart hurts very much!"
"Stop pretending!" Chad crossed his arms with an obvious look of disdain. "Even if you're really having a heart attack, Arthur won't come. He went to be with Lucy!"
Lizbeth's heart clenched, and she was in disbelief. "Nonsense! I called Arthur and he said he would come!"
"Lizbeth, stop imagining things. Arthur's heart only belongs to Lucy! Look, even when you told him you were having a heart attack, he still chose to go to dinner with Lucy and sent me over to see how you were doing! You'd better just give up on him!"
Chad didn't hold back when he triggered someone. He just couldn't bear to see Lizbeth, the third wheel, behave so arrogantly!
Lizbeth clutched her chest and took several steps back. "This is impossible... When I said that I was having a heart attack, Arthur said he would come to see me!"
However, even Lizbeth herself could not believe her own words.
If Arthur was really worried about her, why hadn't he come yet?
Could what Chad said be true? That Arthur had gone to dinner with that b*tch, and Lizbeth's life was less important than having dinner with Lucy?
Lizbeth's heart ached. It wasn't the feeling of sadness, but her whole body felt terrible. She felt as though someone was stabbing her with a knife.
Her face was pale and her forehead was covered with sweat. She squatted on the floor and begged Chad for help. "Help me, I... I'm having a heart attack. Hurry...hurry up and hand me my medicine!"
