Seeing Arin so animated, Nina couldn't help but tap her on the forehead and tease, "Aren't you the one who likes Mr. Micah? Why are you switching sides now? You better not throw another mouse at me!"
Arin stopped immediately. "Oh, come on! I was just messing with you. Don't hold a grudge. Besides, Mr. Micah and Captain York are totally different."
She looked at Nina, then burst into laughter. "Mr. Micah is gentle and kind to everyone, but Captain York? He seems to have a soft spot just for you."
"How can you tell? He seems kind to everyone."
Arin thought for a moment. "Well, maybe you're right, but Captain York always looks so cold. He only warms up to you. Mr. Micah is gentle with everyone, so we all like him."
Talking about Mr. Micah seemed to give Arin plenty to say. Meanwhile, Nash was following behind them, overhearing their
conversation.
He couldn't help but notice the name "Mr. Micah." This person wasn't known in the village, yet the women's smiles indicated a positive impression of him.
Nash refocused his attention elsewhere and suddenly realized someone was missing. "Where's James?" he asked.
"He left early this morning with a few others and Chana," Felix replied.
Nash found this unusual. "Where did they go?"
"No idea. They were being all secretive about it," Felix said.
Considering Chana had a child with her, it seemed inconvenient for her to go out. Just then, someone called out from higher up the mountain.
"Captain!"
The voice echoed through the open mountains, and Nash turned to see James and a group of people coming down, helping Chana along. It looked like something was wrong.
Nash instructed, "Go assist them."
"Yes, sir!" Felix responded.
Nina also heard the voice and looked in that direction. She saw Felix leading a group toward the newcomers.
Arin, curious, said, "There are people up there. What were they doing on the mountain?"
"No idea," Nina replied.
Arin couldn't contain her curiosity and found a vantage point to get a better look. "I see them! They're helping a woman down. She has a child with her and looks really frail. I wonder why she went up there and ended up needing help."
"A woman?" Nina thought for a moment. "Maybe she's one of the women they're helping."
"Maybe," Arin said.
After a while, James and the group arrived. "Captain, Chana is hurt."
Chana looked pale and was limping, soaked and dirty, as if she had fallen from a height and sprained her ankle. James had a basket with some tea leaves in it, and another person was carrying a child.
Nash observed the situation and asked coldly, "What were you doing on the mountain so early in the morning?"
James, sensing Nash's displeasure, started to speak, but Chana, feeling guilty, interrupted, "I'm sorry. I wanted to pick some fresh tea leaves for you, but I slipped and fell. I didn't mean to cause any trouble."
