She hugged Nina tightly. Nina gently stroked her back, comforting her.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
They were still like they used to be, sharing everything as best friends. Over the years, their friendship had deepened into something more like family.
Nina did not want to stay cooped up in the hospital room all day, knowing she might have to spend a lot of time there in the future. So, she and Yvonne went out for a walk.
"Nina?"
As they walked and chatted, a girl suddenly approached them, looking unsure but calling Nina's name.
Nina turned around and was a bit surprised by who was calling her. When she saw the girl, she had a vague recollection but could not remember her name clearly.
She hesitated until the girl said, "Nina, don't you recognize me? Have I changed that much? I sat next to you in class. We used to chat a lot during breaks. Have you forgotten?" Nina smiled politely. "I'm sorry, you seem familiar, but I can't recall your name right away."
"It's me, Lucy Lane! Do you remember now? I'm so happy to see you here," Lucy said enthusiastically. She had short hair, wore no makeup, and had a lively personality.
Seeing Nina again filled her with joy. "I can't believe it's been so many years, and now you're pregnant! But you haven't changed a bit; you're still as beautiful as ever."
Lucy had always admired Nina's looks. In school, she was recognized as the class beauty, with striking features and a head of thick, beautiful hair. Nowadays, people envied those with a lot of hair, and Nina was so lucky to be naturally blessed with a perfect face and figure.
Since they were high school classmates, Nina had many questions. She looked at Lucy, listening to her, and her memories became clearer. "I remember now. You sat next to me, and we used to talk a lot about your favorite celebrities."
"Yes, exactly!" Lucy said excitedly. "I was a huge fan and loved sticking posters on my desk."
"Right!" Nina felt happy.
Lucy grabbed Nina's hand and almost started jumping with joy.
"But after we graduated, I lost touch with you. You stopped talking to me as much, and it made me sad for a long time. I thought you didn't like me anymore," Lucy reminisced about those times fondly. Back in school, people were simple and innocent, with fewer schemes and more genuine friendships, which seemed better than the complexities of adult life.
"Really?" Nina was puzzled. "Did my personality change a lot?"
"It doesn't seem like it now, but back then, it did. After that summer break, you missed several months of classes and became much quieter," Lucy explained.
Nina had always been quiet and
gentle. In her memory, she thought she was pretty normal, and besides the incidents in middle school, didn't remember missing any significant time during high school. Her parents also believed she had been present throughout high school.
Lucy's words shocked her, leaving her unsure how to respond. Nash had also mentioned that she had disappeared for a summer in high school. A lot must have happened during that time. Was she taken into the organization? How did she end up there?
As she pondered this, Lucy continued, "Do you remember Miranda? She became a celebrity. Beautiful people always do well. I remember you mentioned meeting a pretty girl from a single-parent family. She was quite pitiful."
Lucy's words exploded in Nina's mind like a bombshell.
