Eugene took the breakfast from the butler, carefully opening each container and setting them on the small table. His meticulousness surprised the butler.
"Mr. Lowe, let me handle it," the butler offered. He was trying to gauge whether Zoe was really Eugene's girlfriend or just someone brought in to appease Eugene's grandmother, Mrs. Lowe Sr.
Eugene saw through him instantly and immediately put on a stern face. "What, I'm taking care of my girlfriend, and you want to take over? Have you forgotten my rules just because I've been away all these years?"
The butler quickly backtracked. "Of course not. I only wanted to be of service. Since you're handling it, I'll take my leave."
With a wave of his hand, Eugene dismissed him and sat by Zoe's bedside, feeding her soup.
"Careful, it's hot. This chicken soup is full of nutrients. If you ever want more, just let me know, and I'll have them make it for you. Whatever you want to eat, I'll make sure they cook it."
"Promise? You better not be lying to me," Zoe teased, adding a playful glint to her eyes to make the act more convincing.
She gave him a coy look, playing along with the scene. The butler had left some time ago, but Eugene continued feeding her until Zoe leaned back, signaling her refusal.
Eugene understood, smiled, and set the bowl down. "You can eat the rest yourself then. By the way, I'm Eugene Lowe, the fourth son of the Lowe family in Birkham. Not sure if you've heard of us, but it doesn't matter. Titles are given by others and they don't hold much value."
"What do you think holds real value?" Zoe knew of the Lowe family and had heard about their strict standards for the younger generation, but she had never had the chance to meet any of them before. This was her first encounter, and she couldn't deny her curiosity. "Building something with your own hands. That's what holds value. Especially for a man. If everything comes from the family, you're not a real man, just someone playing the part."
Eugene suddenly leaned in closer. "You don't mind pretending to be my girlfriend, right? I really don't want to go on any more blind dates. If you're okay with it, I might need to ask for your help again..."
"No way. I definitely mind." Zoe immediately refused.
This wasn't something she could
agree to. After seeing the disappointed look on Eugene's face, she grabbed her bag and stood up. "Look thanks for what you did last night, and I helped you out just now, so we're even. Let's not see each other again."
Not wanting to get tangled up in this any further, she hurriedly left.
After Zoe didn't return home last night, Nash spent the entire night waiting at her place. When she finally rushed in through the door, instinctively looked her over,
checking for any signs that she
been taken advantage of. Seeing that she was dressed neatly with no marks on her face or neck, Nash
finally relaxed.
He stood up from the sofa, his tone taking on the authority of a concerned guardian. "Where were you last night?"
"You're the one who sent me to that party, remember?" Zoe shot him an annoyed look. "Nash, what were you thinking, sending me to a matchmaking event? Do I look like I need to go on blind dates?"
Nash rubbed his nose awkwardly. "Well, no, of course not. I was just trying to help you meet someone nice, so you wouldn't keep getting tricked by those pretty boys."
At the mention of that, Zoe's anger
flared as she remembered how close she had come to being abducted by Michael the night
before. She couldn't lash out a net

Nina immediately noticed the faint smell of disinfectant. "Did you go to the hospital last night? What happened? Are you okay?"
"It's nothing. Michael drugged me, but someone rescued me and took me to the hospital. Unlike certain people, who sent me to that stupid event and gave Michael the opportunity in the first place," Zoe replied.
