CEO's Substitute Bride

Chapter 60

Chapter 60

Alyssa actually remembered to cook for “Justin”. After all, that was what she had promised him when he lent her his lawyer. Although he is a bastard, a promise is still a promise.

But as soon as they entered the shopping mall, she had already lost track of time. Her colleagues quickly pulled her from store to store, pushing a bunch of fabric to her face as they discussed intently the day they just had.

Seeing as the sky had turned dark, she quickly found an excuse to stop, "I'm so tired. Why don't we find a place to rest?"

"Sure! I saw a drink shack by the end of the mall." All of them headed up that direction.

Seeing as they were finally distracted, she used this time to take out her phone, only to see that she had two missed calls from “Justin”.

“Justin” really wasn't the type to sit patiently and wait for her to reply. She squeezed her eyes shut, not expecting him to call her twice. At this point, she couldn't even imagine how angry he must've been after the second call.

She stood up, looking as if she had just been electrocuted. "I have something else I need to attend to, so I need to go back first. Thank you for today. I'll make sure to treat you guys for dinner." She quickly said, bowing her head.

Once she had left the mall, she walked towards the bus stop while she gave him a call.

The phone rang a few times before it was picked up.

"Where are you?"

His voice was already low. So when he was in a bad mood, others would feel that there was a bit of sullen in his voice.

She could feel a slight chill running down her neck.

Rubbing her skin, she managed to respond to him, "I'm still outside, but I'll be back soon. If you're already hungry, then you can find something to eat first."

She had tried to keep her voice firm, but uncertainty soon latched on to her words. She glanced around, watching as the cars zoomed across the highway.

"I asked where you are." He repeated.

The impatience in his voice couldn't be concealed any longer.

"I'm in City Center." She turned around to take a look and immediately relayed to him her location.

Ever since “Justin” had thrown away the black card in front of her, she no longer dared to provoke the man over such a trivial matter.

‘He asks all these questions as if he's my husband.’ Alyssa thought incredulously, shaking her head, but she didn't say another word after that.

She turned around and went back to the entrance of the mall, waiting for him to show up.

Within a few minutes, his sleek black Bentley appeared in her view.

Just as she was about to go, she heard someone call her from behind, "Alyssa, you haven't left yet?"

Alyssa stiffly turned her head to see that her female colleagues who had shopped with her standing behind her. They were probably heading to the bus stop from the direction they were going in. Just her luck! Seeing as she had no other choice, she nodded in greeting.

"Yes, I'm still here…"

She was in the middle of saying something when “Justin” honked the car.

"Get in the car." Emmett had already lowered his car window just as he was parking his Bentley near the sidewalk. If looks could kill, they would've all been ten feet under. She shivered under her coat, not because of the cool breeze, but because of the man sitting in the driver's seat.

Her colleagues appeared surprised at the same time.

'Great, I'm done for.' Alyssa had a premonition.

"Although I'm younger than you, I'm still your sister-in-law." Alyssa turned her to look at “Justin” and said with a fake smile on her face.

Emmett turned his head slightly to see her colleagues standing behind her. Despite this, he still didn't change his tone of voice as he raised his eyebrows. "Get in the car."

Knowing that he was getting impatient, she immediately turned to the group behind her. After all, if the man was this mad, he might end up causing trouble for them, which in turn might dig her an even larger hole. "He's my husband's cousin. He picked me up along the way, so I'll be leaving first."

Not daring to say any longer, she opened the door and got in the car.

As “Justin” started the engine, she couldn't help but gaze at the rearview mirror. She could still see her female colleagues exchanging a few looks, fiercely discussing what had happened a few seconds ago.

Alyssa sighed and turned to look at “Justin”. "Why did you come back so quickly? Do you work close by?"

He simply ignored her.

If he didn't want to talk to her, then fine. It's not like she was dying to talk to him either. Alyssa turned her head and looked out of the window.

As soon as they got home, she went into the kitchen to cook, not bothering to look in his direction. She wrapped the apron around her waist and began to grab all the pots and pans hidden behind the cabinets.

These past few days, she had already understood his preferences. He was the type of person who liked spicy and flavorful meals. Every dish must have a tinge of chili in them, and he absolutely hated anything bland or light.

Once the two of them finished their meals, they returned to their respective rooms.

Alyssa took a bath before lying on her bed. She quickly dialed Hazel's number and placed her on video call.

"Hey!" Hazel answered almost immediately. While Alyssa was dressed in her pajamas, Hazel was dressed in ancient garments. She was standing on top of what seemed to be a pavilion, with the harsh winds serving as her backdrop.

"You're still filming?" Alyssa asked her.

"Yes, I am shooting some night scenes." Glancing around, Hazel ran to one of the empty corners before dropping her voice to a whisper, "Guess who I'm filming with today?"

"Who?" A thought suddenly occurred to her. "Is it Dylan? Didn't he go abroad to study?"

"It's him!" Hazel face widened into a smile. "The director seems to know him, so he asked him to show up as a guest actor in our shoot. I'm going to act with the King of Movies! Shit! Do you know how nervous I am? My entire body is practically shaking? What should I do?"

Alyssa laughed and said faintly. "I'm not there, and I'm already nervous for you."

Dylan was the youngest actor who had won the Oscars. She remembered following all of his dramas, being his fan for eight years. If she were to act with him like Hazel, she wouldn't know what she'd do!

"Hazel, shooting starts in five!" On the other end of the phone came a sudden voice.

"I'll be right there!" Hazel then turned back to her phone. "I'll be going first. Let's see if I can get you his autograph! I might not be able to get a nude photo of him, but I'll try my best."

Before Alyssa could object, she shot her a wink and hung off.

"You better not do such a thing," Alyssa thought. She was not as obscene as Hazel!

The next day.

When Alyssa arrived at the company, a different atmosphere greeted her. The female colleagues who had pitied her yesterday began to see her in a new light. They kept their distance, this time, gazing at her strangely.

As she had expected this kind of scene early on, she didn't pay much attention to it. After all, there was no need to pour fire into the rumors. They would likely die down by the end of it all anyway.

Dawson had already been frightened to sick after what Alyssa had done to him. For the next few days after returning to the company, he didn't cause any trouble for her. In fact, he was like a little rat, one that raced in the opposite direction of wherever she was coming from.

It was only by the end of the week did he brought someone to look for her. "We're assigned to do some market research today. Today's Friday, and we have to come up with the report by Monday. You'll have to come with me." He quickly relayed the information, handing her the file.

Unlike Manager Black, he was far more decent and honest.

"Mm..." She glanced up at the man, noticing how unfamiliar he looked.

But then again, there were dozens of people in the marketing department, and she had only been here for a few days. Even if she had put some effort into getting to know everyone, she still wouldn't be able to achieve such a feat.

"Okay." The two of them left the company and took a taxi.

Alyssa tilted her head towards him. "Will the company be reimbursing us?"

"Yes." The man looked at her strangely.

Something's up. Alyssa became vigilant. She turned to look outside the window to see that they were already heading to the suburbs. The skyscrapers were already fading from their point of view and she could feel her sweat trickling down her forehead.

When she came out, she had read the information. The products that they were supposed to be researching were vacuums and mops, basically daily household materials. At least, that was what she had gotten from the file. They were supposed to be going to the residential areas.

As they were heading down the road, they happened to pass by a pharmacy. Lowering her eyes, she bit her bottom lips hard. She knitted her eyebrows in pain and said, "Can you stop the car? I… I need to buy something.”

The man cocked an eyebrow. "What do you want to buy?"

"Painkillers." Alyssa turned to look at him and gritted her teeth. "I’m on my period. My stomach hurts."

The man understood what she meant and nodded. "I'll have to go with you."

"Sure." Alyssa knew, if she had refused the man would assume that she knew something was up. Then, she wouldn't have any other opportunity to get off the car. She'd need to be more subtle. Clutching her stomach with one hand, she pulled the door with the other.

Now, she was sure that the man was sent by Dawson to take revenge on her.

The two of them got out of the car and entered the pharmacy. Alyssa perused the shelves for her medication while the man followed closely behind her.

At this time, another man with a mask and cap walked in from the fields. He coughed lightly, with his fist against his lips. When Alyssa passed him, she reached out and grabbed his arm, widening her eyes in surprise. "Cousin! why are you here?"

The man wearing the mask appeared to be stunned for a moment. He raised his hat, revealing a pair of familiar and warm eyes. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
