CEO's Substitute Bride

Chapter 382

Chapter 382

Emmett leaned back in his chair and said calmly, "Don't worry about me. Eat your own food."

Angela mercilessly poked him. "But you seem to be angry."

As she spoke, she picked up the ribs from her plate and brought them to her mouth.

Alyssa had just given her the pork ribs.

Angela could not use chopsticks to pick it up and chew it, so she simply grabbed it with her hand and chewed until her mouth was full of oil.

Emmett glanced at her and reached out to roll up her sleeves.

Angela took advantage of the opportunity and handed half of her pork ribs to Emmett, looking reluctant to part with it. "The meat is so delicious."

Emmett did not say anything. He just turned his head away and refused silently.

Angela saw that he did not want to eat, so she immediately took it back and said vaguely, "Ask beautiful sister give you one."

The middle word "to" was directly left out by her.

Hearing this, Emmett corrected her, "Auntie."

Angela followed the suit, "Beautiful auntie."

Alyssa looked at the interaction between the father and daughter and unconsciously smiled.

Although Emmett was not attentive enough, he was taking care of Angela very seriously.

However, Angela was really a little darling who judged people by their faces. The way she addressed her could not be separated from the word "beautiful.”

Angela finished the pork ribs in her hand and looked at Alyssa while sucking her fingers. She said with an innocent expression, "Beautiful auntie, give daddy meat."

The scene became a little awkward for a moment.

Alyssa did not think that Emmett was someone who would let others help him with the dishes.

Perhaps it was because the distance between them was too great, Alyssa felt that it was already very strange for her to sit together and eat with Emmett, let alone help him with the dishes.

"Your Dad will take whatever he wants to eat himself. You eat. . ."

Alyssa originally wanted to say something to ease the awkward atmosphere, but she did not expect Emmett to suddenly say, "Angela, I want to eat pork ribs."

Although what he said was to Angela, Alyssa felt that he seemed to be targeting her.

The atmosphere became even stranger.

"What?" Angela looked at her oily hands and could not help but say, "Dirty."

Sampson, who had been silent all the time, said all of a sudden, “Mr. Lawrence, you have a very good relationship with your daughter. I think you must love the mother of the child very much."

A thick haze appeared in Emmett's eyes. He sneered and said, "Mr. West, you don't seem to have a good relationship with Miss Moore."

Sampson's expression did not change, but he did not show any signs of backing down either. "I did not know that Mr. Lawrence has a hobby of meddling in other people's business."

Emmett raised his eyes. His ink-like eyes darkened even more. "In this field, I’m no match for you."

Sampson took a deep breath. He was so furious that he gave Emmett a fake laugh. "Mr. Lawrence is right."

Emmett ignored Sampson and turned to look at Angela. Although there was no obvious change in his tone, his voice was much softer. "Are you full?"

Angela also felt that the atmosphere was not right. She opened her eyes wide and nodded. "I'm full."

"Then let's go back." Emmett reached out and picked her up as he spoke. He turned to look at Sampson and Alyssa. "Thank you for the hospitality."

After watching Emmett go out, Alyssa asked Sampson with a confused look, "What happened to you and Mr. Lawrence? Did you two have a grudge before?"

When Emmett entered the house, these two men looked like they would get along well with each other.

She only went into the kitchen to bring the dishes for a while. How did they end up like this?

Furthermore, she had never seen Sampson speak to anyone in such a sharp tone. Clearly, he was also angry.

Sampson curled his lips and smiled. "It's okay. Let's have dinner."

Alyssa could tell that Sampson did not want to dwell on this topic.

The more he behaved like this, the more Alyssa felt that Sampson might have known Emmett in the past or had some conflict with him because of something.

However, if he did not want to talk about it, she would not ask.

Her gaze fell on Angela's plate. There was only a piece of leftover rib.

Emmett had said that they did not have dinner.

Emmett definitely did not know how to cook. She had been to their house before, and there did not seem to be any maids who could help them cook.

It was such a long night, and a baby like Angela could not do with an empty stomach.

Perhaps she could send them some food later?

No way. In that case, it would make Sampson angry.

Even if Sampson didn't show it, he definitely wouldn't feel good in his heart

At such a time, she should be on Sampson's side.

Sampson's voice pulled Alyssa back from her thoughts.

"I'm going to the bathroom." Alyssa stood up and put the phone on the dining table into her pocket.

Sampson noticed her little action but did not say anything.

Alyssa took the phone to the bathroom. After locking the door, she opened a delivery app.

Someone like Emmett must had never ordered take-out for themselves. Perhaps, he might not even know what take-out was.

She found a restaurant that looked more advanced. She ordered a baby meal and an adult set meal. She filled in Emmett's house number before letting out a long sigh of relief.

Angela did not need to be hungry anymore.

Emmett brought Angela back to the house opposite.

As soon as they entered the house, Angela was very attentive and took out her and Emmett's slippers.

She mumbled something. "This is Empett's. This is Angela’s. . ."

Suddenly, she pulled Emmett's pants excitedly and said, "Dad, the beautiful auntie is Alyssa. You are Empett, I am Angela, and she is Alyssa. We could be a family!"

Emmett was speechless.

He bent over and lifted Angela up with one hand.

Emmett placed her on the shoe cabinet and asked her seriously, "Do you hate that Uncle Sampson?"

Although she did not know why her father was so serious, Angela put her hands behind her back like an adult and shook her head seriously. "Uncle Sampson said I am a good girl.”

Emmett's face darkened. "He praised you but he might not be a good person."

Angela blinked her big eyes at him. "What is a good person?"

The father and daughter looked at each other for a while. In the end, they stopped looking at each other because Angela started to doze off.

Emmett said somewhat discouraged, "Forget it."

He bathed Angela, changed her clothes, and put her on the bed. Then he sat alone in the living room,

lost in thought.

It was clearly his first time seeing Sampson. Why did he hate Sampson so much?

When he saw Sampson and Alyssa sitting together, he felt that it was an eyesore.

He originally thought that Sampson was a person who was disagreeable by people, but Angela did not hate him.

He believed a toddler's intuition.

The doorbell rang outside.

Emmett looked at the time. It was past ten o'clock.

It was already so late. Who else would come?

Ever since he personally started to take care of Angela, he felt that it was already very late when it was past ten o'clock.

He walked over and opened the door.

The delivery man handed over a bag of packed food. "Mr. Lawrence, your takeout."

Emmett frowned when he saw the take-out. "I didn't order it."

The delivery man heard him and said, "But this is your address. Maybe your friend ordered it for you?"
