Chapter 14
I reached my office and found it difficult to focus on work. I stood up from my seat and stepped out of the office, walking towards a particular direction I didn’t know where it led. I reached the end and took another turn and in the next ten minutes after taking several routes, I reached the rooftops where I sat down and bawled my eyes out.
I felt thousands of daggers, piercing through my heart as the scene replayed in my mind as tears slid down my cheeks, wetting my skirt. I remained like that for over an hour till realization hit me.
“Why am I hurting myself because of him?” I questioned myself.
“Why am I feeling attached to him?” I continued.
“Do I even have the right to be angry?” I interrogated myself inwardly, trying to convince myself that all we had or shared was nothing but a one night stand.
I stood up and returned to the office and realized my makeup was ruined and anyone will be able to notice I cried and I immediately dashed into the washroom where I washed my face and redid my make-up before returning to my office like nothing happened, though with a heavy heart.
I hurriedly attended to the files Dana left behind, they were quite complicated but I still worked them out nonetheless and I returned them to her desk and in thirty minutes, they both arrived (Paxton and Dana).
After fifteen minutes of their arrival I received an email from Paxton again containing unsorted files and I sighed tiredly before beginning what I need not to be told to do.
I kept on sorting the files as I paused midway, taking a short break before I continued.
“Today should have been named “file sorting day” I murmured inwardly.
I reached the final unsorted file and the note posterior to it drew my attention. I sorted the file and went ahead to read it.
“Report to my office after sending those files to Dana” it read and I I heaved a tired sigh again, thinking of the workload I’ll be receiving this time around as I sent the files to Dana slowly.
I sent the files to Dana in-between every ten minutes, making me spend more than an hour in the process. I did that on purpose to delay his call.
I stood up reluctantly dragging counted steps towards his office sluggishly, trying to waste as much time as possible till I finally reached Dana’s office and informed her he sent for me and she did her job by going ahead to confirm if he really sent for me.
“You can go in now” she said and I walked towards the door to his office and banged on the door. I didn’t receive a reply and I stood rooted to the point, with my mind made up on not stepping in without his response.
“Just go in” Dana cooed silently.
“Courtsey demands that you should knock and wait for a response before stepping in to a room or an office you don’t own” I retorted and she chuckled at my stubbornness.
“Then be ready to stand for enternity” she added.
“Preferable” I fired back.
She stood up from her seat and opened the door widely befire returning to her seat, leaving me there, standing awkwardly and staring at the aloof creature whose gaze was on the system before him.
“Sir, you sent for me” I said, starring blankly at him.
“Have a seat” he said with his gaze still on his PC.
I stared at the seat before reluctantly sitting on it, Wondering the nature of workload he wanted to give me that made him offer me a seat.
I remained seated, waiting for him to speak but when I didn’t, I just made myself comfortable, staring at the interiors of his office, admiring the uniqueness of its colour, comparing it to mine.
Mine, with shabby white colour and little to no designed was nothing compared to his. What was I expecting? He’s the CEO and I’m just his employee he can do away with whenever he pleases.
“Did he call me her just to watch him work?” I asked my myself inwardly, staring at his annoying face I had no option but to admit was handsome.

Sydney got tired of staring at him and suddenly felt dizzy and she rested her head on the seat and dozed off.
Paxton noticed it and shook his head before returning his attention to his device.
After twenty minutes, he was done and he moved the system aside and stared at her sleeping face, wondering how to wake her up.
He stared at her for five minutes and decided to use the bossy method as usual.
“Hey!!!!” He yelled and she jolted out of her slumber, wiping her eyes with the back of her palm.
“So unprofessional!” He fired at her and she fumbled with the buttons on her skirt.
“I’m sorry sir, you took forever to attend to me so I dozed off” she blurted out almost immediately.
“Attend to you?” He asked sarcastically.
“Wrong words” she stated, already annoyed, tolerating his excesses.
He stared at her awkwardly as silence brimmed the atmosphere of the office.
Meanwhile, Dana kept wondering what was going on in the office because apart from Jaxton, a client or business partners no one else spends more than ten minutes in Paxton’s office without him asking them out, including herself.
She brushed away the thoughts and decided to mind her business.
Paxton broke the graveyard silence in the office after few minutes.
“I don’t tolerate lies, so nothing but the truth” he stated and she stared at him blankly, wondering which truth.
“What were you doing at the club that night?” He demanded to know and her eyes widened, as he questioned her about a topic she has been trying to conceal since the day she began working.
Sydney was petrified as the question threw her off balance.
“What if he knows? She asked herself inwardly.
“What if he has an idea of the fact that I used to be a stripper?” She asked herself again, scared of losing her job because that was the last thing she wanted to happen.
