Captive Hearts: The Tycoon's Ugly Bride

Chapter 77 No One's Stopping You

Chapter 77 No One's Stopping You

Chapter 77 No One's Stopping You

Faced with Brendon's puzzled expression, Blanche spoke in a strained voice, "I'm sorry, but I'm already married."

She looked down to see a few goldfish squirming. With a final desperate leap, they ended up dead on the ground.

A pang shot through Blanche's heart. Those little lives had just been extinguished, and even though she didn't have feelings for Brendon, she still felt guilty.

"How can this be?" Brendon couldn't believe it. Blanche was married!

"Miss Bird specifically told me that you were single."

"Cathy told you I'm single?"

Blanche widened her eyes slightly, finally making sense of it all. That's why, at the orchard today, Cathy caught up with Brendon so quickly. She had been brewing a sinister plot all along, aiming to embroil Brendon with her, further arousing Louis' distaste for her.

What a cunning woman.

"I'm sorry. I was too abrupt. I've caused you a lot of trouble."

Every second was unbearably awkward. The only woman he had ever been attracted to was already taken. Brendon, feeling like someone had poured a bucket of cold water over him, apologized and left quickly.

Blanche bit her lip, watching Brendon's dejected departure.

Louis sneered, "If you can't bear to let him go, go after him. No one's stopping you."

"One more glance, and I'll miss him? I feel sorry for him, okay? He's such a bright and intelligent man, yet he was fooled by your dear sister. You think everyone is as cold-blooded as you."

Even though boys don't usually think as deeply as girls, they have their pride. Blanche was sure that this would be a big blow to Brendon.

With a 'bang', Louis shut the door.

Once back in his room, Louis carefully checked for any signs of disturbance but found none.

He stopped in his tracks, his gaze shifting towards the curtain that was slightly moving. He walked over quietly and yanked the curtain back, revealing an open window.

He was sure he had closed the window before he left.

The hotel was only five stories high, not too tall for a trained individual to climb.

It seemed that his uncle was still plotting against him, even from overseas.

Louis turned off the lights in the room, sat at the end of his bed, and quietly waited for Wilburn's henchmen to strike again.

After ten minutes of silence, something felt off. Louis furrowed his brows, thinking hard. After a few seconds, he swiftly got up, went outside, and knocked on Blanche's door.

Blanche had just gone to bed when she heard the knock. Sighing in resigned acceptance, she slowly got up and opened the door, revealing Louis standing there, a sight that left her utterly bewildered.

"What's the matter?"

"Do you open the door for anyone who knocks?" Louis glared at Blanche's flushed lips, his irritation clear. He strode into her room without waiting for an answer.

Blanche regretted opening the door.

"What are you doing?" Blanche followed him into the room, noticing that Louis was looking around suspiciously.

"Why are the lights off?" The room was dark, which made Louis more alert.

"I was sleeping. Of course, I turned off the lights. What are you looking for?"

Blanche snapped, a touch of irritation coloring her voice. She flicked the light switch, and it was then that she noticed the icy chill surrounding Louis, his eyes brimming with a potent sense of danger.

Louis looked around Blanche's room but found no signs of intrusion. However, he walked to the balcony window out of caution and found a footprint on the windowsill, which made him smile coldly.

If he had been a moment later, Blanche might have been sleeping forever.

"Someone was in my room!" Blanche followed him and saw the footprint on the windowsill. Her mind blanked out for a moment, and a chill ran down her spine. She hadn't sensed anything abnormal.

Louis didn't say a word, which was as good as confirming her suspicions.

After a while, Blanche pulled her shawl tighter around her, remarking, "Wow, this is the fifth floor. These people are really daring. Aren't they afraid they'll lose their footing and fall to their death?"

Louis gave her a sidelong glance, looking at her as if seeing her for the first time. "It seems you're not scared at all?"

Was Blanche really a woman? If it were any other woman, she'd be crying by now. But Blanche was actually admiring these people's courage.

Blanche rolled her eyes and nodded seriously.

"I am scared. But I also admire these people's guts. They risked their lives climbing up the building. If it were me, even if I were offered 2 million dollars, I wouldn't take the job. I might earn the money but not live to spend it."

Louis pulled the curtain closed. "Stop flattering yourself. You're not even a drop in the bucket compared to that 2 million. Now, do as I say and go back to bed."

Blanche shook her head. "I can't risk sleeping right now. What if they decide to make me disappear? I'm in my prime years, and I still have countless decades to live."

"Heh, I can see that you're really scared now. But don't worry. They're after me. You're nothing more than a decoy. Your worth is hardly a dime.

After hearing this, Blanche climbed onto her bed, sighed, and thought about how unlucky she was. Other women married into wealthy families and lived lives of luxury. She, on the other hand, lived a life where her life was in danger every day.

But as soon as Blanche lay down, she sat up again, not feeling at ease. She sat there, her long eyelashes fluttering as she swallowed hard.

"Turn off the lights. I'll sleep sitting up."

Her life wasn't just hers; her seriously ill Grandma also depended on her.

Sleep sitting up? Louis could tell that Blanche was truly nervous. He took a drag from the cigarette he had just lit, teasing her slightly.Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.

"Scared now? Want me to come up and sleep with you?"
