Bounty Hunter

Accident

Reed

Seeing Roman Slovov, that fucker, approached Zinnia made my blood boil. It took more than a sextillion breathing exercises to calm me down.

And his hands on her? That was something I would never tolerate. Already, tearing this place down was more than enough self-restraint than I could muster.

Roman wore a smug smile on his face. He found my rage amusing to him.

“Reed, your girl? Are you her plus one?” he spoke in a mockery and provocative tone, then directed his attention to Zinnia.

“He’s your plus one? Tell me, do you happen to be Zinnia?” he asked, cocking his brows.

A cute frown appeared on Zinnia’s face. I watched her open her mouth and close it, something she did whenever she was lost for words.

“You know me?” she finally voiced out.

“I do, as everyone here. You’re quite-”

I stepped in between Roman and Zinnia. “That’s enough, Roman. You have one second to get the fuck out of my face before I repaint this room with your blood,” I murmured, stepping closer to him.

Roman is a coward. Always has been and that would never change. But right now, just this instance, that cowardice was replaced with bravery, knowing that he has finally found that one thing. That thing that could make even the cruellest of all killers vulnerable.

He smiled and stuck out his hand to me for a handshake. “It was nice running into you,” he said. When he realised, I wasn’t apt to take his hand, he retreated, then looked past me at Zinnia and smiled. He brought his index and middle finger to the side of his head and gave me a wave and then he was off.

“Reed, I swear, he approached me and- ” Zinnia began to speak but stopped when I stuck up my hand. I tapped the device on my ear.

“Hermine, get the jet ready, we’re flying back to America this fucking instant,” I ordered then turned to Zinnia. “Where the hell is Alex?” I asked.

Zinnia froze. I hadn’t meant for my voice to be so cold and stern, but I was fucking pissed. It was a part of me she was yet to see and she knew better than to get on my nerves.

“She’s somewhere on the dance floor, I’ll go find-“She began to walk away when I grabbed her arm.

“No. I’m going with you. Starting today, you don’t move an inch without me knowing,” I murmured and grabbed her arm, leading her to the dance floor.

Everyone stared at us. Those fucking perverted assholes stared at Zinnia. If there was anyone out there who didn’t know about her, they certainly did now. Because of me, her cover was blown, and now every single person who has a bone to pick with me knows where to hit.

Dammit! I shouldn’t have brought her here. Nine circles of hell, what in the holy hell was I thinking?

I spotted Alex at the bar flirting with one of Roman’s guests. Once her companion saw me approach them, he immediately tensed and stood straighter.

“Alex,” I called out coldly. I shot daggers to the companion and he fled, like the chicken he is.

“We’re leaving,” I said and began to walk past her.

“Uh, no the fuck we’re not! I was having fun,” she contradicted. I tightened my hand that was conjoined with Zinnia’s. From the corner of my peripheral, I could see her shake her head, silently begging her friend to comply.

“That wasn’t up for discussion. Now move your skinny legs before I put a bullet in them,”

She folded her arms and stood on one leg. “I don’t know who the fuck you think you are, but you don’t tell me what to do. Your threats might have worked with Zinnia, but over my fucking dead body shall I bid to them,”

I growled, ready to take a step towards her and grabbed her by the hair out of this place when Zinnia placed her hand on our already conjoined hands.

“Alex, please. Just listen to him. We need to leave,” Zinnia uttered next to me. Her shoulders slumping in defeat, Alex shot me a dead glare that didn’t leave me unaffected and stormed past me. Rolling my eyes, Zinnia and I followed behind her.

The car was already waiting for you outside Roman’s estate. Hermine sat at the steering, a strained smile on her face. I nodded to her before opening the door for Alex and Zinnia to get in.

“I should drive. Knowing Roman, he would have someone on our tail and I’ll best know how to rail them off,” I spoke.

Without uttering a word, Hermine got out of the driver side and made it to the passenger side. In no time, we were on the highway. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

Just as expected, Roman had someone on our tail. Only Hermine had picked up on that fact and I tried my best to derail them from our tail. But whoever was on the wheel seemed to be an expert.

They were closing in on us. I stepped on the pedal and changed gears. At the next intersection, I abruptly turned, balancing Zinnia and Alex to the left.

“Motherfucker! Slow the fuck down, you’re going to kill us,” Alex verbalised annoyingly. From the rearview mirror, I shot her a dead glare.

I hit the brakes, but for some reason, the car wouldn’t slow down. Roman’s men were rapidly closing in on us, so, again, I stepped on the pedal to put some distance between us. Again, they closed in on us.

A loud thud sounded through, making Alex gasp.

“What the hell was that,” she rambled. Hermine, who was seated next to me, clutched tightly to her seatbelt and shot me a worrisome look.

I stepped on the pedal again, but the car wouldn’t speed up this time. It quickly dawned on me that he had tampered with our car. Whenever they were close, the brakes and the pedal won’t work, as though they were controlling my car.

“Fucking asshole! He tampered with our car,” I murmured. I hadn’t meant to be so loud, because at once, Zinnia and Alex began rambling, making it impossible for me to think.

Another thud came through again, almost balancing us off the road. I was so wrapped up in putting some distance between our vehicles that I hadn’t realised we were quickly approaching the stop signals.

“Reed! Fuck, slow down. That’s a stop signal. The light just turned red!” Zinnia yelled from behind, trepidation evident in her voice.

“Oh my God! Reed! Slow the fuck down,” it was Alex who yelled this time.

Repeatedly, I stepped on the brakes, hoping for some miracle. But it never came. Another thud came through right before we passed the red light.

Big bright headlights flashed through the car. The loud hunk from the truck coming our way at full speed spread panic in the car.

The last thing I hear and felt before everything turned dark was Zinnia calling out to me and her hand clutching to my suit.

Our car tumbled off the road and a dreadful silence ensued.
