Chapter 40 The Consequences of a Slippery Hand
"Huh?"
The servant was confused. Jason clearly had no intention of explaining, as he waved his hand and leisurely sipped his wine.
The servant walked away, puzzled. He couldn't understand. Jason heard about Ingrid's plan and ordered him to install a surveillance camera in Miss Lynn's room. Jason also asked him to take away the contraceptive pills that Marie had placed there. The servant didn't have the chance to tamper with the necklace. When he arrived, Burton and the others had already gathered outside Rejoyla's room. But Jason seemed to approve of what Ingrid did. Something didn't seem right!
Jason drank a glass of wine and then went back to swimming in the water, missing the WhatsApp message from Rejoyla.
"Joy, go put on this outfit." Jacquelyn personally picked out an outfit with the designer and handed it to Rejoyla. When Jacquelyn saw that Rejoyla was holding her phone, Jacquelyn immediately snatched it. "Don't play with your phone all the time. Go change your clothes!"
"Give me back my phone!" Rejoyla pouted. Seeing that Jacquelyn wanted to look at her phone, she immediately became unhappy. "You're not allowed to look at it. It's my privacy!"
"Who cares? Alright, take it and go change your clothes!"
Seeing that Rejoyla was getting anxious, Jacquelyn handed it back to her. However, Jacquelyn was more interested in the contents of Rejoyla's phone. She wondered if there was a chance for her to sneak a peek at it so that Rejoyla wouldn't be bewitched by a poor man.
She didn't want Rejoyla to experience what she had gone through and be fooled by a man's sweet words. In this world, money was the safest bet. Love words were just a bunch of lies.
Rejoyla took her phone and went into the dressing room with the clothes. She took off her clothes and looked at the outfit that Jacquelyn had given her. It was a beige lace dress with a vintage design on the neckline, waist, and cuffs. It had a courtly style, and the whole dress was made of lace. The high-waisted design and the V-neck could perfectly highlight her figure. Rejoyla looked at the dress with her head tilted and was quite satisfied. Just as she was about to change into it, her phone rang.
When she picked it up and saw the flashing portrait, she stared at it for three seconds before remembering whose WhatsApp account it was. Ah, it was Brady's WhatsApp account. Although the company had its own contact group and they knew who the boss was, no one dared to harass him. Brady had added her on WhatsApp last time when they were at the Crown Palace Hotel, so Rejoyla didn't recognize it at first. Now that she recognized it, she remembered something she had forgotten. She had promised Brady that she would go see a therapist. It was almost noon now. Was she ditching the boss? If Brady asked her about it, what should she do? Should she tell him the truth? Ingrid was Brady's cousin, and Rejoyla didn't think that Brady would side with an outsider like her.
She didn't know what to do.
Rejoyla hesitated to tell the truth, but she didn't dare to delay any longer and hurriedly clicked to answer the call. However, Rejoyla didn't know that she had accidentally slid her finger and switched to video mode. When Brady saw the image on his phone, he was stunned for a moment. He had set it to audio mode, not video, right? But the video was even better. He looked closer and his adrenaline surged. He almost had a nosebleed, and he stared without blinking. What did Rejoyla mean? Did she have feelings for him too? Was that why she expressed her love in such a bold way?
His dream had come true too quickly. Brady couldn't quite accept it, but he couldn't help but stare at the woman in the video. Well, her figure was just as good as he had imagined. Although Rejoyla usually dressed quite conservatively, he could tell by her shape. But what he saw was more stunning.
"Mr. Nelson, Mr. Nelson, why aren't you saying anything?" This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
Rejoyla held her phone up to her head and tentatively asked.
Brady took one last look at her and reluctantly looked away. "Joy, you should put on your clothes first!" Although he had only seen her upper body on the screen, it had almost caused him to have a nosebleed.
Rejoyla blinked and realized what was happening. She looked down suddenly and saw that she was only wearing a bra. "Ah!"
She quickly turned off the video and put on the dress in her hand.
Jacquelyn heard Rejoyla's voice from outside the door and knocked. "Joy, what's wrong?"
Yes, Rejoyla had learned from yesterday's lesson and closed the door to the dressing room when she entered.
Rejoyla blushed and said, "Nothing."
She stared at her phone screen, not knowing whether to end the call or not.
"If there's nothing wrong, come out. Why is it taking so long?"
"Just a minute!"
Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, Rejoyla courageously picked up her phone. When she saw Brady's face in the video, her cheeks flushed. "Mr. Nelson, I have something to do, so I have to go!"
Without waiting for Brady to speak, she hung up the phone and opened the door. Jacquelyn's eyes lit up. She looked at Rejoyla and kept nodding. "Nice, my daughter is a born beauty. You look good in anything!"
Fortunately, Rejoyla had closed WhatsApp, or Brady would have heard Jacquelyn bragging and she would be embarrassed.
"Then we'll buy this dress!"
Rejoyla didn't want to change again. She hated to stay in the dressing room.
Jacquelyn frowned. "There are several other dresses. Try them on and see which one looks better!"
"No, I think this one is fine. Anyway, I'm not changing!"
Rejoyla sat down in front of the dressing table. "Do my makeup and hair!"
Seeing that Rejoyla was determined, Jacquelyn didn't say much though she was dissatisfied. She had the remaining clothes wrapped up. "These dresses are good. Buy them and you can wear them someday."
Rejoyla was wronged this morning, so Jacquelyn planned to buy more things to compensate her.
"Oh." Rejoyla didn't pay much attention because her WhatsApp was ringing. Looking at Brady's flashing portrait, Rejoyla had the urge to throw her phone away.
After hesitating for a while, Rejoyla finally gave in to her conscience because he was her boss. She clicked it and saw several messages.
"Joy, I'm sorry for my rudeness just now. I didn't mean it!"
"Joy, why aren't you replying? Are you angry?"
"Joy, are you there?"
This was the difference. If it were Jason who encountered such a thing, he would probably immediately send a message to tease her. But Brady was so upright and just, which made Rejoyla feel embarrassed.
Actually, it was not Brady's fault. It was her own carelessness for accidentally pressing the video button, and she forgot that she was changing clothes. If she made a fuss about it, she would be too narrow-minded. Besides, he didn't see her naked, right? Rejoyla thought about it and remembered that he just saw her upper body, and she was wearing a bra. After thinking about it, Rejoyla returned to normal. She replied to Brady and explained, so as not to be misunderstood that she did it on purpose.
"It's just a misunderstanding. I wasn't paying attention and accidentally pressed the video button while changing in the dressing room. Mr. Nelson, you don't need to apologize."
Immediately, her phone rang.
"Dressing room? Are you shopping? Didn't you go see a therapist?"
"Yeah, something happened at home this morning, so I'll go tomorrow, okay?"
"What happened?"
"Just some family matters. Oh, I have to do my makeup now, so that's it. Bye!"
Brady stared at his phone for a while before calling Jason.
Jason got out of the swimming pool and saw the WhatsApp message sent by Rejoyla.
"What's up?"
His tone was as cold as ever. Of course, when dealing with someone trying to get his woman, he had to be a bit ruthless.
"Was there something going on at the Sterling family today that prevented Rejoyla from seeing her therapist?"
"You can ask Rejoyla yourself."
"Jason, if Rejoyla wanted to tell me, do you think I would need to ask you? Besides, even if you don't tell me, I can still find out."
"Fine. Go find out then!" Jason hung up the phone without further explanation, leaving Brady frustrated but helpless. Brady could only beat around the bush and ask his mother to investigate.
After hanging up, Jason immediately replied to Rejoyla.
"Where are you?"
Unfortunately, his message went unanswered as Rejoyla was busy doing her makeup and had put her phone in her bag.
After waiting for a while with no response, Jason simply located Rejoyla's position and went to find her after taking a shower and changing his clothes.
After countless layers of cosmetics and hair styling, Rejoyla finally finished and stared at herself in the mirror for a while. Jacquelyn stood next to her, smiling proudly. "How do you like it? Beautiful, right? You should always dress like this in the future, and you should learn to do makeup. How could there be a girl who doesn't put on makeup?"
Rejoyla took a deep breath and gave Jacquelyn a cold look. Jacquelyn finally realized that something was wrong with Rejoyla. Rejoyla didn't seem happy like she expected, but rather angry.
"Joy, what's wrong? Don't you like it? This style suits you so well!"
Jacquelyn couldn't understand Rejoyla's thoughts. To be honest, she didn't expect it to turn out this well, and Rejoyla looked more beautiful. Rejoyla was always pretty. After all, how could her daughter not be beautiful? But Rejoyla's temperament wasn't perfect enough. However, after the designer's modifications, Rejoyla became elegant and graceful, yet still lively and charming. Jacquelyn wanted her to be not only virtuous but also interesting. She should be attractive at first glance and even more so over time.
Rejoyla furrowed her brows. She didn't expect that she would be so gorgeous after putting on makeup. If she had known, she would never have come to this store for styling. But now it was too late. Annoyed, she turned her head and put on the nude-colored shoes she had prepared earlier. "We're going to have lunch soon. Call Mr. LimBurton and ask him where he wants to eat. Let's go now. I don't want to wait until tonight."
She wanted to finish the task earlier so she could remove her makeup sooner.
"That won't work. We've already set a time."
"I don't care. If it's not possible for lunch, I won't have dinner with him!"
It was too frustrating. She felt like her face was burning with pain every second she wore the makeup. She just wanted to leave and wash it off. In the end, Jacquelyn had to call the man. Fortunately, he agreed to meet for lunch instead.
