Chapter 28
28 Revelations and Discontent
In a quaint café, Emma sat across from Wayne, recounting her recent encounter with Alex. Her
expression was a mix of annoyance and disbelief. “He had the audacity to warn me about you, as if 1
can’t handle my own relationships,” she said, shaking her head.
Wayne listened, his expression one of mild amusement. “Alex seems to have a hard time letting go You
two were married for a long time. Perhaps he still feels some responsibility towards you,” he suggested.
Emma scoffed at the notion. “Responsibility? He’s the last person I’d expect to show any concern about
my well–being, especially after everything that’s happened.”
Their conversation was interrupted by a news alert on Emma’s phone. She glanced at the screen, her
eyes widening in shock, “It’s about Bella. She’s been exposed as a mistress to a wealthy businessman.
They’re insinuating it’s Alex!”
Wayne raised an eyebrow. “Scandalous. But it’s not surprising, given Alex’s recent behavior. He’s been
quite reckless.”
Emma felt a pang of something – not quite jealousy, but an unsettling feeling nonetheless. She had
moved on from Alex, yet the news stirred unwanted emotions.
Meanwhile, Alex was in his office, his phone ringing incessantly. It was his mother. He braced himself
for the impending lecture.
“What’s this I hear about you and Bella? This scandal is a stain on our family name! How could you let
this happen?” His mother’s voice was shrill with indignation.
Alex pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a headache coming on. “Mother, it’s not what you think.

But the matriarch was relentless. “You need to fix this, Alex. Our reputation is at stake. And think about
Emma. What will people say about her if they find out she was your wife?”
The mention of Emma made Alex’s heart sink. He hadn’t considered how the scandal might reflect on
her. He had been so caught up in his own problems that he hadn’t thought about the repercussions for
Emma.
He hung up on his mother still ranting on the phone, his mind racing. He needed to contain this
situation before it spiraled further out of control. But deep down, he knew that the damage was already
done.
That evening, Emma and Wayne met for dinner at a secluded restaurant. The mood was somber as
they discussed the unfolding scandal.
“I can’t believe Alex would be so careless,” Einma said, her volce tinged with disappointment.
Wayne reached across the table, taking her hand. “You deserve better, Emma. You always have.”
Emma looked up, meeting Wayne’s gaze. In his eyes, she saw a sincerity that had been missing from
her relationship with Alex.
She squeezed his hand, a small smile forming on her lips. “Thank you, Wayne. For everything”
As they finished their meal, Emma felt a sense of closure. She had moved on from her past with Alex,
ready to embrace whatever the future held with Wayne by her side.
