Chapter 11
11 A Night of Unspoken Words
At the masquerade ball, Wayne’s mention of the lavish gifts prepared for Emma instantly shifted her focus. She suggested logging them for future reciprocation, a practice ingrained in their family
tradition.
Do you ever tire of these events?” Wayne asked, sensing her disinterest.
Emma sighed, “Every smile here hides a lot more than it reveals. I long for a world where words and intentions mean what they say and portray.”
Wayne nodded, understandingly. “Perhaps one day, you’ll find that world.”
As the evening wore on, Stark approached Emma. “You look like your mother tonight,” he said softly.
Emma’s eyes softened. “I miss her, Dad. She understood me.”
Her father wrapped an arm around her. “She’d be proud of the woman you’ve become, Emma.”
In a secluded corner, Emma bumped into Alex. Their eyes, hidden behind the mask, locked, fraught with unspoken history. Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.
“Emma?” Alex began, uncertainty lacing his voice.
“It’s been a long time, Alex,” she replied coolly, masking her turmoil.
“Can we talk?” he asked, a hint of regret in his tone.
“There’s nothing left to say,” Emma said, turning away, leaving a bewildered Alex behind.
As Emma walked away, her thoughts swirled. ‘He never saw me, not really,‘ she realized. ‘It’s time to let go, to find my own path.‘
Wayne found her gazing at the night sky. “Are you alright?”
Emma looked at him, a faint smile on her lips. “I’m just taking a moment to breathe, Wayne. The night is clearer away from the crowd.”
Wayne nodded, respecting her need for space.
Back in her room, Emma removed her masquerade mask and placed it on her dresser. She glanced at a photo of her younger self on one side of the dresser, a stark reminder of how much she had changed. With a deep breath, she turned away, ready to face a future unburdened by the past.
