Chapter 25 You Should Be Responsible
"I got injured because of saving you. Therefore, you should pay for my medical bills."
He turned his head to look at Gwenyth and said in a domineering tone.
Gwenyth nodded. It cost less than two hundred dollars to get him admitted, have X-rays taken, and then see a doctor to have his broken bone set and get a cast applied.
It was not too expensive...
It was eleven o'clock at night when they left the hospital.
There was still a fine layer of sweat on Edison's forehead. When the doctor set his broken hand, the doctor asked if he wanted anesthesia. He stared at Gwenyth for a moment and calmly said no. Then, in the ensuing procedure, he wore a tense expression and endured the pain by clenching his teeth.
She felt he was saving money for her.
In fact, a small dose of anesthesia only cost about $20 in a regular hospital, so he didn't have to save it for her.
"Does it still hurt?"
She quickly caught up with him, pulled a handkerchief from her backpack, and stood on her toes to wipe the sweat from his forehead.
His head dodged a little to deliberately avoid her.
He deliberately avoided her.
"Is it clean?"
He stared at the handkerchief in her hand with a disgusted look in his eyes.
"Of course."
After a few seconds of silence, he tilted his head back and looked at her coldly, waiting for her to wipe his sweat.
She smiled helplessly and stood on tiptoe again, wiping the sweat off his forehead.
"Did you offend anyone?"
Edison asked her suddenly.
She was slightly stunned, "Why do you ask me like that?"
"That black car hit you on purpose. Didn't you see it?"
"I saw it."
"And you stood there like a dumb sculpture? Why didn't you move?"
She was a little speechless.
The car was too close to her then, and she was already freaking out. How could she react?
Besides those debt collectors, the only person she could think of who she had offended was Nancy.
Those debtors wanted her to pay them back as soon as possible, so it was unlikely that they would run her over with their car.
She had some suspicions about Nancy, but she couldn't say it to Edison. After all, that woman was his ex-girlfriend, a woman he was determined to get back and marry.
"What brings you here all of a sudden?"
She naturally changed the subject.
"I was looking for you."
Edison walked ahead in big strides.
She followed him, walking beside him, "You need to see me about something?"
"Hmm."
"What is it?"
"I forgot."
"..."
Gwenyth saw a cab drive by and reached out to stop it, but Edison pulled her hand back and said, "Walk with me."
"Aren't you feeling hot?"
It was a stifling day, and even the breeze that came to them carried a sticky, humid heat.
"No, I don't feel hot."
Edison lied. He let go of her hand and walked on.
"Are you saving money for me?"
She knew she was poor, but she could afford to pay for a cab.
"Miss Lovelace, don't think this is about you."
Edison walked in big, fast steps, and Gwenyth ran a few steps to keep up.
The two of them walked along the street for a while, and Edison was all sweaty, as if he had been in a sauna.
He was sweating, and his shirt was soaked with his sweat and was clinging to his body.
Luckily, her neighborhood was just up ahead.
He held on and walked to his car. He opened the door and got in. The first thing he did was turn on the cold air.
Gwenyth stood by the car door, looked at his left hand in the cast, and said after thinking for a moment, "You can't drive now. I'll call a chauffeur for you."
"Hmm."
Gwenyth called for a chauffeur and was going to go home when the driver arrived, but Edison lowered the window a little and gestured for her to get in.
"I'll go home when your chauffeur arrives."
"You're coming back with me."
Gwenyth shook her head.
"Aren't you going to take care of me?"
"Why should I?"
His expression became a little darker and he lowered the whole window and raised his cast hand, "How am I supposed to wash my face, get dressed or take a shower like this?"
"..."
"I got into this because I saved you. You should be responsible for that."
"Huh?"
He had a problem with cleanliness, both physically and mentally. He didn't like strangers staying in his house. So he would never hire a regular domestic worker. The housekeeping company sent cleaning people over three times a week to clean his house.
He lived alone. He had moved out of the Yates Mansion four years earlier and was used to living alone.
"Get in the car. Don't make me say the same thing twice."
Edison was very determined.
Gwenyth sighed. She went to the co-pilot, opened the door and got in.
Inside the car, the cold air was turned up to the maximum, but it was easy to get a cold.
"Turn down the air conditioning a little."
Edison did not seem to hear her words.
She got out of the car and went to sit in the back.
Edison ignored her.
When the chauffeur arrived, he got out of the car, threw the keys to the chauffeur, and got into the back seat to sit with Gwenyth.
He was right next to Gwenyth, and his arm touched her from time to time.
She moved a little to the side, and Edison caught her small movement.
"Why are you moving away from me?"
"It's hot."

The car pulled into an upscale neighborhood, and Gwenyth saw the name of the neighborhood, Moonlight Villa.
The name was quite poetic.
When they arrived at his door, Edison reached out and took his wallet from the front and pushed it to Gwenyth. "Pay him," said Edison, who then got out of the car.
After the chauffeur parked the car, Gwenyth paid him immediately.
She took the car keys and carried Edison's purse into the house.
On the floor of the entrance hall was a pair of cute pink piggy slippers.
They weren't there when she arrived yesterday.
Had this been prepared especially for her?
Did Edison go looking for her just to ask her to come live with him?
He saved her by chance, but the slippers were obviously bought in advance.
With so many doubts, she changed her shoes. When she saw Edison sitting on the sofa in the living room, she went over and put the things she was carrying on the coffee table in front of him.
"Your cast will be removed in a month. I can take care of you in the meantime. But you have to let me stay in the guest room."
She said with a serious look on her face.
She didn't want the situation from last night to happen again.
"Sure."
Edison readily agreed, and after a few seconds of silence, he added, "The room next to mine is already prepared for you. There are clothes and household items for you there already."
Now Gwenyth was even more certain that Edison intended for her to stay there.
"I'll leave when you've recovered from your injuries."
"Okay."
Edison agreed willingly again.
"Run a bath for me."
Gwenyth couldn't refuse his request, even though she didn't want to. Well, Edison had just saved her life at that critical moment.
She turned and went upstairs. Then she went straight into the bathroom of the master bedroom and turned on the bath water.
She was tired from working so late, and her clothes smelled of sweat. She hadn't showered yet, so she just sat on the floor next to the tub.
When Edison walked in, he saw her head tilted and her fist pounding her shoulder.
He was a little curious as to what new job she had found that was making her so tired.
He walked in and stood in front of her. Looking down at her, he asked in a light tone and without much expression on his handsome face, "What are you doing now?"
"Running your bath."
"I'm asking what your new job is."
"None of your business."
Edison raised his eyebrows slightly, and a slight displeasure flashed across his eyes.
Never mind. He didn't really want to know.
She was just a woman he hired, and he didn't have to care about her.
"Help me take a shower."
After saying that, he raised his right hand and slowly unbuttoned his shirt.
