Chapter 11 Don't Say No
Gwenyth's tense shoulders suddenly slumped.
Edison was right. He was the boss, so it was easy for him to fire her.
She didn't need to make a special trip to cause herself trouble, so she said, "I'm leaving."
Then, she turned around and walked to the door. When her hand touched the doorknob, she heard him say from behind, “Wait.”
"Is that all?"
"Have you had breakfast?"
"No."
"Eat with me."
Before she could refuse, he said, "Don't say no."
Ten minutes later, they left the billiard room. There was a breakfast shop across the street selling porridge, buns, and noodles.
Gwenyth didn't want to go anywhere else but wanted to have breakfast nearby and go home as soon as possible. So, she pointed at the breakfast shop and asked, "What about that one?"
Edison looked over, stared at the breakfast shop for a while, and reluctantly agreed, "Let's go."
When they crossed the road, Gwenyth walked ahead of Edison. But she could see him out of the corner of her eye. When he reached out to hold her hand, she casually put her hand in the pocket of
her pants.
Edison missed her hand, so he slightly raised his eyebrows and asked, "Did you do that on purpose?" Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
Gwenyth pretended not to know what he meant, turned to look at him, and asked, "What?"
"Nothing."
After entering the breakfast shop, Edison chose a table by the window and sat down. Instead of ordering any food, he took out some napkins and carefully wiped the table on his side.
Soon, the napkins were stained with oil.
When the waiter came over, he threw the napkins into the trash can and lost his appetite.
"Order for yourself," he said to Gwenyth.
"OK."
Gwenyth did not refuse because she was hungry. She ordered a bowl of porridge, a few steamed buns, and a potato salad.
When all the dishes were served, she picked up a disposable fork and began to gulp.
Seeing this, Edison frowned. He had never seen any other woman eat like this in front of him. She was paying no attention to her image.
She finished four buns and the bowl of porridge but left the potato salad untouched. After putting down the fork, she got up to pay the bill.
Edison had wanted to pay. But she had moved fast without giving him the chance.
Then, she asked the waiter for two takeout boxes to pack the unfinished buns and potato salad.
Gwenyth closed the boxes, put them in her bag, and looked up at Edison, asking, "Is that all?"
"I'll send you home."
"No, thanks."
"You are my girlfriend now."
"I’m fake."
"Miss Lovelace..."
"If you don't need me to play the role now, I will go home."
Seeing him sit still in silence, Gwenyth knew what he meant. So, she strode out of the breakfast shop without looking back.
When she was about to arrive at the subway station, a car drove over and slowly stopped beside her.
It was a luxury car, but she could not tell the brand. When the window of the driver's seat went down, she saw Edison's exquisite handsome face.
"Get in the car."
"You don’t need to send me home."
"Do you want to break the contract?"
Hearing this, Gwenyth could only open the car door and sit in the backseat. But Edison said in dissatisfaction, "Sit in the passenger seat."
She forced back her impatience. But she was too lazy to get out of the car, so she crawled from the backseat to the front seat, sat down stiffly, and buckled up.
She didn't say a word along the way and even breathed softly, as quiet as a mouse.
Edison didn't ask for her address. But half an hour later, the car arrived in the old community where she lived.
"Did you investigate me or..."
She wanted to ask if he remembered who she was but swallowed back the words on the tip of her tongue in the end.
Edison ignored her words, pulled over on the side of the road, and got out of the car, intending to send her into the community.
She unbuckled her seat belt, opened the door, walked out, and thanked him.
Edison walked up to her and said, "Let's go."
"Are you sending me upstairs?"
"That's what a boyfriend is supposed to do, right?"
"Edison, you hired me. We are not a real couple, so you don't need to do such things."
"Okay! Bye!"
He got back into the car, started it, and stepped on the gas. In a blink of an eye, the car disappeared at the end of the street.
Gwenyth went home, took out the food boxes from her bag, and put them on the table. She walked to the bedroom but didn't see anyone. So, she guessed Ursula had taken Susie to her workplace.
She took off her clothes, took a shower, put on a loose T-shirt, and flung herself on the bed.
After confirming the salary had been transferred to her bank account, she put down the mobile phone and had a nap on the bed. Then, she picked up her phone and browsed a recruitment website, intending to find a part-time job with relatively flexible working hours.
She could not wait for Edison to call her all the time. If she did not do something in her spare time, she would feel uneasy. Moreover, her financial condition did not allow her to idle at home.
After a while, she chose a fast-food restaurant with flexible working hours. The waitresses there would be paid 20 dollars per hour.
After writing down the address, she changed her clothes and went to apply for the job. Fortunately, it was not far from her residence, and it only took her about ten minutes to walk there.
She started working right away and worked until noon. After taking a break for an hour, she continued in the afternoon and did not get off work until five.
She planned to go home directly, but Edison called her when she was on the way home.
"Where are you now?"
His voice was hoarse and deep, sounding pleasant to hear. But his tone was cold.
"On the way home."
"Wait downstairs."
"OK."
After hanging up the phone, she slowly walked forward. When she reached the gate of the community, she stopped and stood by the road.
Edison's car arrived a few minutes later.
When she got into the car, he glanced at her clothes, started the car without saying a word, and quickly drove to an FIO store.
FIO was the most popular brand under the Yates Group with hundreds of stores across the country. And it was also liked by consumers abroad.
"What did you bring me here for?"
"I'll buy some clothes for you."
Edison pushed open the door and motioned for her to get off.
"Do you have a business dinner tonight?"
Edison lightly nodded and entered the store.
After Gwenyth followed him in, he gave her a gentle nudge on the back toward a salesperson and said, "She needs some outfits."
As the president of the Yates Group, Edison was young and handsome. He often made headlines, so the staff in the store all recognized him.
The salesperson was so nervous to see him that she stammered over the words. So, the store manager took up the matter herself, helped Gwenyth choose a few sets of clothes, and led her to the fitting room.
Edison sat on the sofa in the lounge and picked up the latest issue of Global Times. After about twenty minutes, Gwenyth walked up to him in a deep pink close-fitting dress.
The dress had a suspender on one side and a ruffle sleeve on the other. And the waistline was neatly tucked in. People could not pull it off if they were in bad shape. But it fit Gwenyth very well. She had a thin waist and fair skin, so she could easily pull off clothes in any color.
