Chapter 96
Chapter 96
Luca’s POV
“C’mon. We’ve known for over twenty years, James.” I started to say before throwing my hand out a
little before I continued. “Of course I can read most of your facial expressions.”
“But I still can’t read yours perfectly on most days, man.” He started to say in a low whine and I rolled
my eyes at him as a small laugh left my lips at that.
“I guess I am way better at hiding my emotions, now isn’t that right?” I mumbled in a low voice and
James agreed immediately, nodding his head along what he started to say almost immediately. “You
have no idea, man. You’re as emotionless as a stone on most days and your emotions barely cross
your face.”
“That’s one of tne reasons why you’re widely feared.” James continued to inform me and the whole
explanation managed to warm my heart and make me feel more achieved as a mafia lord. It was good
knowing that all the amount of time I had spent trying to get a hang of being in complete and total
control of my own emotions, her obviously came to pass a few years ago, and it was even getting
worse as the years went by.
“That’s a really good thing then, I want to get to a point where I’d have total control over the act of
controlling my own emotions and choosing when they show up on my face and whatnot.” I said to him
and he nodded his head immediately, agreeing with me instantly because he knew it always gave us
an edge.
I watched as James stepped closer to me and paused right before me. He reached forward and placed
his hands on my wrists, a few inches away from the particular spot which he had held, some minutes
ago when he had grabbed my hands in order to stop me from throwing more accusations at him
without waiting to hear his actual side of the story yet.
He started to speak after a few seconds, staring straight into my face. “Look man, you thought wrong,
ok? I’d never be weirded out about the thought of coming go your house.” He explained and I nodded
my head at him after a few seconds before starting to say. “That’s better then, because I had planned Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
to deliver a good solid punch to your face, If you had actually meant that.” I Informed him and watched
as he breathed out a small laugh before he continued to speak after a few seconds.
“How can I even ever get weirded out about the thought of coming over to your house?” He asked in a
voice that sounded so far away and I shrugged my shoulders at him without saying a thing, he was the
one that was going to have to tell me.
“I can never get tired of coming over here, ok? So get that uncertainty out of your head. I loved and
would still want to come over here and gym with you, or when we trained in the room in the pool area…
those cool days.” He paused and stared up into the sky and I did the same without thinking, staring at
the sky and how the moon was so dim in the sky, just as those good old days which James had
brought up about a minute ago, started to float around in my head. I dragged my eyes off the sky and
returned it back to James’ face whose eyes were still staring straight ahead and I didn’t need to guess
or try to rack my brains much, then figure out that he was obviously thinking about those good days as
well.
Whereby we’d do a lot of stuff over here together, and it has been really long since we last did
something like that together, now that I think about it.
“When was the last time we had a meal together?” James’ voice started to say and I stared up from my
feet to settle my gaze on his face, and after racing my brains, I realized that it has been longer than a
month since we last ate together, now that I was thinking about it.
It was really bad.
“Man, it has been really long, and it honestly shouldn’t be like that.” He started to say and I nodded my
head at him in agreement because it was a hundred percent right. He continued almost immediately. “I
totally get the fact that we are both so busy with a lot of things, which is obviously why it’s so hard for
us to find time to do those fun stuff which we usually do before… but this one about eating together
shouldn’t be like this.” He stated and I couldn’t agree more.
“I know, right? It was obviously another reason as to why I had suggested you come home with me to
come get your hand cleaned and dressed up, because it has been really long since we’ve eaten
together and I Lind of miss that.” I said to him and started to bite on the side of my lower lips, hating the
way my heart was feeling all fluffy like a piece of bacon.
That’s a really weird feeling.
“Ah man, I had no idea you wanted that.” James started to say and I shook my head from side to side
before commenting. “You’re dumb, James.”
“Aw c’mon.” He whined but I ignored him as I shoved my hands into my pockets and moved my weight
from foot to foot, wanting to get my shoe off my feet and to finally sit down in a seat which would be
really comfortable and a space which would be really comfortable for me to stretch my legs out in.
“Why did you say you were feeling weird at first though?” I started to ask after a few seconds, before a
part of my mind still wanted to understand what exactly had been tbe reasons behind that whole weird
and confused feelimg he had claimed to be feeling when I had asked him if anything was wrong, after
he had alighted the car, some moments after I did.
He stared at me in what seemed to be like confusion and after I had explained the first but to him, a
look of understanding crossed his face, a tiny moment later, as the word ‘oh’ slipped out his mouth as
he started to nod his head.
“Oh, that? That was because of the sad feeling which you said to have seen on me after we had
existed Ivan and his cousin’s house – I had thought I had been oblivious enough and that you hadn’t
been able to feel that I had been disturbed as we started to make our way out of the those particular
streets.” He started to explain and that was when it all started to make more sense in my head,
compared to my own conclusions which I had in my head before.
“Oh.” It was my turn to echo out those words and I stared at him intently, trying to figure out if there was
something else be wasn’t telling me yet, but his face was in a blank expression at the moment –
probably because he knew I was going to do this tne moment after I had completely digested his
answer.
“Yeah, that. It wasn’t about any of those unreasonable reasons which you had thought it was at first.”
He continued, and this time. He gave me a hard look which made me roll my eyes at him in reply.
“You honestly cannot blame me for that man, you’d have thought about that assuming you were in my
shoes.” I said to him and he shook his head immediately, starting to speak almost instantly. “I’d have
waited to hear your side of the story at first, instead of jumping straight into conclusions like some other
people would obviously do.”
James replied, staring pointedly at me as the last words slipped out of his lips and I breathed out a
small chuckle before starting to say under my breath. “You fucker.”
“Shut up, Luca.” He replied to me in the next second as he bent to pick up his suit jacket and tie which
water current on ground, and I honestly had no idea as to how it got there, but I could take a quick
guess and come to the conclusion myself that it was when we had been arguing and when he had
reached for my arms with his two hands and had started to shake me a little – or when we had been
moving forward and backwards like characters of a video game.
“My suit jacket is ruined.” James stated under his breath as he held his jacket out away from his body
and stared at it with the dudes in his mouth and nose wrinkling with disgust.
“It is?” I asked while staring at tne jacket along with him. It had a little dust on it and that was that.
“Yeah, the dusting of dirt on it had it ruined already, ain’t no way I am going to wear this again.” He
continued and I blinked at him confusingly before deciding to ask.
“What do you mean it’s ruined?” I asked and be stared at me before almost shoving the piece of cloth
into my face, as he explained. “It’s obviously dirty, isn’t it? I have to get it washed before I can get to
wear it again. I won’t be wearing it tonight anymore, that's what I meant.
“Oh.” I started and he lowered the jacket and glanced up at me.
“Huh?” He asked and I shook my head immediately and placed my hand on his shoulder. He was
almost as tall as I was and not as short as the bodyguard of Ivan and his cousin, so it wasn’t all that
comfortable for me to place my hand on there, but I left it there anyways.
“Nothing, man.” I said to him before nodding my head towards the side of the house.
“Let’s go inside.”
