Chapter 255
Chapter 255
Luca’s POV
The rain might end up falling today and it was already very obvious by just staring at the clouds. It was
currently some time during early noon, I had just finished having my first food for the day and was
making my way into my office here at home. Sofia had said she was going to try to paint something
today and I had wanted to check on a lot of things, and to also get to my best friend because we were
supposed to attend to a lot of things today as well as making some plans today, and all I had done after
I had woken up late today was to send him a quick text, but he deserved an actual call from me.
And so, I started to call him after a few minutes of me settling into my seat. The air in here was really
cold. I loved just how it felt against my skin. I was in a very light shirt at the moment and I might end up
ditching it after a while because I really wanted to feel the cold air against my skin.
James picked up the call on the first ring and the first thing he said into the phone was to curse at me.
“You fucker,”
“I’m so sorry,” I started to say and I had zero doubts that he was nothing but rolling his eyes at me at
the moment, even though we couldn’t see each other at the moment.
“You just decided to suddenly not show up, just like that?” He asked after a few more seconds and I
puffed out a deep breath as I slowly made myself sit up in the chair I was once again leaning against
really heavy.
“It wasn’t even on purpose.” I started to say and James snorted really loudly.
“Oh, yeah? Alright, it’s like how?”
“For one, I overslept, my stupid alarm didn’t manage to wake me up.”
I remained silent after that and after a few minutes, James was starting to speak. “Let me guess the
second reason, it’s most definitely Sofia.”
I refused to say a thing to that and when the silence started to drag out, James let out a small scoff into
the silence and I lifted my hand and started using it to massage the sides of my eyes.
“Like I said, that wasn’t on purpose at all.” I said to James after some time.
“Alright, fine.” He huffed out and I rolled my eyes a little before starting to massage the sides of my
eyes onve again.
“I’d have just preferred it if you had told me you weren’t going to be coming today, back in the office
yesterday.” He informed me and I felt a small sigh slipped past my lips.
“Believe me man, I’d have told you myself yesterday if I had an idea I wasn’t going to be able to make
it, which is why I kept mentioning the fact that it was completely not on purpose.” I said to him slowly as
I puffed out a slow breath.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right, I was just saying.” He echoed into the phone. We both fell silent after that This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.
until a few minutes had passed, before we’d finally started to speak about a particular meeting which I
had completely forgotten about until the second James had mentioned it.
“Fuck, that meeting was today?” I asked slowly as I felt my hands start to inch into my hair. It was like a
reflex instinct of mine at this point, if something wasn’t going on well with me or I was in distress, one of
the things I unconsciously do is to start to dig my fingers into my curls to tug on the roots.
“Yeah, it was.” James informed me after a few moments and paused for a few seconds before
continuing. “It’s today, it was supposed to happen this morning, why else did you think I was angry with
you at first when you decided to call me at noon, it looked like you suddenly didn’t care about that
particular meeting anymore.”
“What the fuck, no. Of course not, I had just completely forgotten, that’s all. Why would I just not care
about something we’ve been trying to schedule and arrange for a while now.” I said into the phone,
feelimg my fingers start to drag through my curls really slowly.
“Exactly! Now imagine how I had felt this morning when you didn’t show up, and all you did was to send
a four word text to me late in the morning.” He continued to speak into the phone and a small sigh was
falling out of my lips even before he was completely saying all what it was that he wanted to say.
“I’m so sorry, man.” I said into the phone, knowing how hurt James was currently feeling. It wasn’t news
that when it comes to scheduling meetings and arrangements with people, be it who the person was,
James was a complete guru once it comes to that and I just know that he’d have felt really bad this
morning about my absence.
He huffed out a small breath in response without saying a thing and I decided to continue to speak after
a few seconds.
“I feel so bad now.” I informed him in a low voice as I threw my gaze around the office for a fleeting
second.
“As you should, you should feel really bad for what you’ve done.” He responded to me in the next
second and I breathed out a slow breath before starting to speak.
“Aw, c’mon James.”
“I’m going to pretend like I didn’t hear that.” He informed me in a voice that made me breath out a light
chuckle in the next second. I shifted in my seat a little and puffed out a deep breath as I reached up
with my hand once again and started to stroke my fingers through my hair.
“Anyways, I wanted to also ask you if you’ve started to make some securities plans about Armani’s
arrival yet.” He said into the phone after a little while and ebkinked at first, feeling the gears in my head
start to move around really slowly. It took me long seconds before I could start to connect the dots
together in my head, remembering that indeed I was supposed to have done this, because my kid
brother was finally coming back home.
I sat up almost immediately as I cursed quietly beneath my breath, and by how James snorted into the
phone, I knew he had been able to figure out the fact that it had completely slipped out of my head.
“Fuck, I can’t believe I completely forgot about that until this very moment.” I said into the phone as I
tugged on my hair a little before puffing out a deep breath.
“Let’s see, which did you completely forget about? The part about where you were supposed to
arrange some security stuff down for him, or about him coming back home in particular.” James asked
and I groaned a little before starting to speak.
“Uh, both? Both of them? Everything? I don't know how it ended up happening but I completely forgot
about it.” I said into the phone and telling by James’ low hum, he wasn’t even surprised one bit.
“I’d have said it was because of your wife if I wanted to tease you, but this is serious and you’ve
honestly been like this even before you got married, so I won’t try to tease you.” James informed me
and I scowled a little into the door before me.
“What does that have to do with what’s happening right now?” I asked after a fleeting moment and I just
know that he was currently shrugging his shoulders without seeing him right now. I've spent a lot of
time with him and I know how he instinctively reacts to some things.
“I honestly do not know, man. Just felt like saying that.” He informed me and the confused look on my
face morphed into a scowl in the next moment.
“Fuck you, man.”
“You know, it’s fun listening to you panic,” he started to speak into the phone and I rolled my eyes a
little at his words. Panic? I’m not even panicking to begin with.
“Who said I was panicking?” I demanded from him the next moment.
“I just felt so because I know you and you’d usually start to panic in a situation like this.” He responded
and I felt my eyes slide close and open in a fleeting moment.
“What’s your definition of the word ‘panic’?”
“It’s a lot of things, it can happen in a whole lot of ways…” He trailed off at first before continuing after a
moment.
“You see, when it comes to you, you do not visually panic…” He started to say, and I’ve got to admit
that he was indeed right because one thing I never do is to reveal what it was that I was feeling in a
particular moment on my face, at this point, it was second nature to me. Assuming he had ended up
saying something else entirely, I might decide to stop being friends with him because how would we
have been friends for a really long time and he wouldn’t know this particular thing about me… that’s
just plainly absurd.
