Betrayal At The Altar

Chapter 782

Chapter 782

The latter smiled. “Hello, my name is Miriam Waller.”

Rachel replied generously, “Hello, I’m Rachel Grey.”

The atmosphere of the meal was much more harmonious than Rachel had anticipated.

Although Miriam had an innate arrogance, she did not show any ostentatiousness during

the meal.

She was also very well-mannered in the face of Eleanor’s questions. She had clearly grown up in a strict environment.

As she was thinking, Rachel’s phone suddenly vibrated.

Without batting an eyelid, she took out her phone and checked the messages on it.

It was the result of the Red Flame’s investigation of Miriam.

Her ancestors had once been on the battlefield. Even though they had moved from Ceneturz to the south, their family still had a powerful warring background.

Probably due to the influence of her ancestors, although Miriam was a woman, she had been in the army for five years and was currently in a certain judicial department.

To be honest, the Johnson family was indeed out of their league compared to Miriam’s background.

From the eyes of an outsider, the Johnson family had exceptional status as the richest family in Seaxas. However, only the Johnson family knew that they could not withstand a single blow against a

family with true power.

At this moment, Lucas picked up his wine glass and stood up. “Dad, Mom, now that you’ve seen her, I’m preparing to go home with Miriam in two days. The two of us don’t like to hold ceremonies, so we’re planning to skip the engagement and register our marriage directly.”

Hearing this, Rachel could not help but be stunned.

Even Eleanor, who had always been dignified and elegant, choked on her coffee and coughed repeatedly.

This was not just rapid progress, but light speed.

The two of them had only known each other for a few days, but they were already going to register their marriage. This matter was a little too rushed..

Tom looked at Lucas. His deep and dark eyes flickered with a dark and complicated

expression.

He naturally knew Miriam’s background and the benefits of Miriam marrying into the Johnson family. However, with Miriam’s background, the Waller family might not agree to this marriage.

At the end of the day, it was the Johnson family who was going to climb up the social ladder because of the Waller family

“Marriage is a big deal. It requires the consent of both parents.”

Upon hearing what Tom said, Eleanor hurriedly echoed, “That’s right. Parents always worry most for their daughters who marry into faraway lands. It’s good that the two of you love each other, but you’re too anxious. Your parents will inevitably be caught off guard.”

Although the two of them looked like they were in love, everyone knew what the reality

was.

There was no foundation of love between Lucas and Miriam. If that was the case, how could they really be in love?

However, there was one thing that they could not understand. With Miriam’s background, she did not have to marry into a lesser family.

Why did she choose Lucas? Could he be fooling around and not taking marriage seriously at all?

Although it was going to be a marriage alliance, as parents, they naturally hoped that their child could live happily in the future. Lucas’s attitude and way of handling things really worried them.

They did not want Lucas to lose his childlike innocence at such a young age because of this marriage alliance.

“I have my own considerations regarding this matter.” Lucas finished the wine in his glass and sat back in his chair.

Miriam pursed her lips and carefully looked at Lucas. “Lucas, what are your plans for the afternoon?” Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

“I have to go back to the company for a meeting in the afternoon,” Lucas replied with a serious expression. “I also have to go out to socialize tonight.”

It was like a routine report. There was no emotional communication between young couples.

Miriam’s gaze flickered. “When will you be done?”

“I’m not sure.” Lucas frowned slightly. He probably felt that his attitude was too cold, so he

added, “It’s been really busy at the company recently. There are some things that I need to deal with personally.”

Miriam nodded. “I understand.”

She picked up the cup in front of her and took a sip. She lowered her gaze to hide the emotions in her eyes.

She thought, “Does he treat me as his fiancée or not? I was talking to him out of goodwill, but he’s reporting back to me like a block of wood.

“Those who don’t know better would think that we are superior and subordinate!”

The group split up after the meal.

Rachel and Eleanor walked behind.

Eleanor held Rachel’s hand and said earnestly, “Rae-Rae, your brother has always listened

to your advice the most. Why don’t you go and enlighten him? I’m really worried that he will take things too hard.”

Although it was a marriage alliance, it had to be consensual.

If the two of them did not share the same ideas and forcefully got together, it would probably result in a situation where both sides would suffer.

The two of them would have gripes that they could not talk about and would torture each other and add to each other’s worries as a result. Why should they subject themselves to that?

“I’ll talk to him in private.” Rachel looked up at Lucas and Miriam. “It’s just that I’m not sure if he’ll listen to me.”

After all, Lucas had agreed to the arranged marriage set by his grandfather because of her.

Now that he had brought Miriam home to meet his parents, he must have a plan in mind.

She was afraid that she could not change this matter with just a few words.

After sending off Tom and Eleanor, Rachel turned around and walked toward her car.

“Miss Grey,” said a voice behind her.

Rachel turned around and saw Miriam jogging over from not far away. “Miss Waller, you don’t have to be so polite. Just call me by my name.”

“Alright, I’ll call you Rae-Rae. You can call me Miriam.”

“Sure.” Rachel looked at Miriam and did not butter up to her. She asked directly, “Why are you looking for me?”

“It’s nothing.” Miriam pursed her lips and said tentatively, “I just wanted to ask if you have

time to walk around with me in the afternoon?”

Rachel could not figure out the intention behind Miriam’s request.

She thought for a moment and replied, “Sure.”

Hearing this, Miriam’s face lit up. “That’s great. I’ve been bored to death in the hotel alone these past few days.”

She was unfamiliar with this place and wanted to look for Lucas, but she was worried that he would be annoyed. Now, she finally found someone who was willing to accompany her.

Miriam did not stand on ceremony with Rachel at all. She pulled Rachel into the car and drove to the largest department store in Seaxas.

The two of them did not notice the group of people walking out of Tastyhaus when they got into the car.

The person in the lead was Hans.

When he walked out of the door, although he only saw Rachel’s back, he still recognized her at a glance.

He had asked people to inquire about Rachel ever since he came to Seaxas. However, no one knew much about her.

Rachel was a mysterious existence in Seaxas. Unless she was willing to show her face, they had no way to inquire about her, nor did they have the chance to spy on her.

Now that he saw Rachel getting into a luxury car, his eyes flashed with a cunning plan.

He thought, “Could it be that she has hooked up with someone else?”

Seeing the car start, Hans did not have time to think. His body was the first to react. He quickly chased after the car and memorized its license plate number.
