Chapter 184
Chapter 184
After shaking hands with Alicia, Bruce turned around and instructed a rough- looking bodyguard beside him.
Alicia smiled and glanced at the man beside him. She suddenly noticed that the way they handled matters didn't seem to be that of a decent business. At the very least, it was totally different from the feeling that Frederick gave her!
However, Alicia didn't show her thoughts. Instead, she thought that maybe Frederick gave her a better feeling because he was really handsome. He was a little picky, therefore he took great care of his image and he would always wear suits, appearing elegant and cold.
Socializing was also important in sealing a deal, hence Alicia followed them in.
Inside the private room, there were many men and women. It seemed that Mr. Jackman was quite prestigious. As soon as the two of them walked in, some of them got up to give way.
Alicia smiled at them, her attitude was neither humble nor arrogant.
Mr. Jackman obviously had a good impression of Alicia. He motioned for her to sit down before offering her a glass of wine. "She's the beautiful translator I just hired! Just enjoy yourselves, there's no need to be prudish! Miss Blanchard, here's to you!"
Alicia got up and waved her hands, slightly embarrassed.
"Thank you for your praise, Mr. Jackman. It's an honor to meet you but I have a weak heart. You see, I can't drink alcohol. I even have to bring my medicine with me everywhere I go. I'll toast you with water instead of wine and I hope you understand!"
With that, she had already taken out her own bottle of water. She was indeed a woman of beauty, calmness, and intelligence!
Bruce took a look and couldn't figure if she was telling the truth. However, he had a good impression of the way she carried herself and handled matters. He understood something but he didn't say anything; he just touched glasses with her.
"Alright!"
The bodyguard was soon done with the preparations and Mr. Jackman personally brought her to the room. He then handed her two papers from his messenger bag.
"Miss Blanchard, I'll give you six thousand dollars for these two papers as four thousand is an inauspicious number to me! But, I'll remind you again, the data on these papers are confidential. You should not leak anything out! If I find out that you've leaked anything, don't blame me for being ruthless!"
"Don't worry, Mr. Jackman. I'm a translator, not a spy! I respect my job and hope that you will trust me! I won't leak a word of anything I see!"
Bruce narrowed his eyes and nodded, then unfolded the paper. Alicia took a look.
"No problem! It'll be done in a jiffy!" she stated calmly.
She thought that there would be confidential secrets but it turned out that it was just a pharmaceutical prescription! She had done medical translation jobs, therefore she had done a large amount of research. She went through a lot of information that was in Spanish previously, thus she wouldn't have a problem even if it were in Russian, let alone Spanish.
At that instant, Bruce couldn't help but look at her admiringly again. "Just call me when you're done!"
As Alicia sat down, he headed toward the door. "Don't disturb Miss Blanchard nor let anyone disturb her!"
Looking at the laptop, Alicia noticed that it had been cleared up. Bruce looked rough but he was actually very thorough.
Alicia created a new document and unfolded the paper. Although she wasn't used to typing on another laptop, she was professional and slowly increased her typing speed.
Halfway through the translating, she understood that it was a formula for a drug.
It should be a folk prescription, at least not something of standard production as there were some words that she had to look up in order to find a more appropriate term. Other than some medical terms that she remembered, there were also some professional terms and equations.
Although she couldn't understand the equations, Alicia could guess that it concerned material manufacturing, the improvement of a drug, or even the steps to making a supplement.
"Where he got this prescription," she wondered.
In the room, Alicia was concentrating very hard on her job while Jeremy came looking for her and finally found her after looking through several rooms.
At the door, he glanced in inadvertently and saw her sitting on the floor. She was biting a pen, typing away on a laptop, and she appeared to be very serious. His heart thumped when he saw the two fierce-looking men outside the door.
Without stopping, Jeremy just walked past. "Apparently, she is just here to work, but why is she working so late at night?" he thought to himself.
As time passed, Jeremy just stayed at the other end of the aisle. He would walk past occasionally and take a look. Every time he walked past, he glanced at the clock and his heart would feel heavier.
Meanwhile, Alicia had finished and was checking her work thoroughly for errors. After making sure everything was fluent and the professional terms were on point, she stretched herself and got up.
"I'm done! Please inform Mr. Jackman!"
She glanced at the clock. It was only 9:50 pm. Just in time!
Before long, Mr. Jackman walked in staggering. He reeked of alcohol. "That was fast!"
She thought that it was relatively slow.
The client was paying a huge sum and she was embarrassed to finish the job too fast as it would give an impression that it was an easy job. It would be bad if they lowered the price next time.
With a smile, Alicia spoke humbly.
"Well, maybe because I hit it off with Mr. Jackman, hence my condition and efficiency were elevated! Would you take a look, Mr. Jackman? I'm not familiar with some of the words and it was a little hard to comprehend them. I had to look them up online. I'm an amateur in this field and can't be sure. If there are any mistakes, please be magnanimous and allow me to make changes!"
It was obvious that he was pleased. Bruce laughed and sat down on the sofa. He took a look at the document and noticed the main points were translated very well. Satisfied, he beckoned to her.
"For this part, make the text bold and red. It would be better if you could circle it in red..."
"This value here, that's right, put brackets and remarks there. Be precise about it, I don't want any mistakes!" Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Altering a few details, Alicia made changes according to his instructions and quickly finished the job.
The man was all smiles when he got up.
"I say, missy, you're intelligent and you know how to speak well. You really humor me. How would you like to work as my secretary? I'll give you ten thousand dollars a month!"
Hearing that 'Miss Blanchard' had become 'missy', Alicia couldn't help but laugh coquettishly.
"Oh, Mr. Jackman, if you keep complimenting me, I'll lose myself! I'm delighted about the offer but I'm quite slow. I'm good at the type of work that does not require brains but I don't have it in me to become a secretary. I would mess up your company!"
