And The Daddy Is… The Infertile Guy?!

Chapter 201

Chapter 201

“I can’t tell you just yet.” Enoch looked at her youthful, disarmingly beautiful face, his heart full of concern.

The time wasn’t right to dmg her into the tangled mess of the past

“Since you say so, Mr. White, Ill listen to you Gwendolyn replied without pressing further, a model of obedience.

Enoch sighed. “Once you’re ready to spread your wings, you can do anything you want to do. He reached into his pocket and laid a document before her. “Membership to the Bayridge Health Association.”

“If you’re serious about opening your clinic and want to keep out of trouble, it will help. Surely, the association is a mixed bag, but there are some real talents. My old friends will look out for you”

Enoch had thought everything through, spending the past few days networking for his opprentice.

Gwendolyn’s eyes misted over as she accepted the membership card.

“Thank you”

“Don’t mention it. Your temperament makes you easy to pick on.”

Enoch stood up. “I’m going to pack my things. Don’t hover around this old guy. You should be out there living your life.”

After overhearing their conversation, Marina teased once Enoch had left. “Mr. Chadwick does have a soft spot for Mrs. Chadwick’s

She knew the two had spent the night together.

Gwendolyn glanced at her, cheeks flushing with embarrassment

Marina giggled, covering her mouth. “Mrs. Chadwick, when will we hear some good news about you and Mr. Chadwick?” She was genuinely concemed. There were other women out there eyeing Howard hungrily.

“Don’t… don’t be rush, Marina, I can’t talk about this now.”

Gwendolyn flustered, lifted the hem of her dress and ran upstairs. Her hand rested on her belly as she thought about Howard’s words from the night before. What if they were to have a child?

As dusk settled, the Lopez Manor stood vast and grand. Its walkways and ponds were lit by the soft glow of streetlamps, exuding an air of understated antiquity.

One hour before the christening part, the Lopez family’s kitchen was bustling with preparation. The guests were more or less related to the family, with the opportunists and schemers firmly left out in the cold.

On the massive bed of the fifth–floor master suite of the new modern–style villa lay a man, gaunt and barely clinging to life.

His eyes shut tight, his youthful handsomeness still traceable beneath the pallor, surrounded by life sustaining machines.

That was Claude Lopez, Eve’s youngest son.

Claude had been in a tragic car accident as a young man, bedridden for twenty–two years.

Three people stood by his bedside.

Eve was with a cane. Her health had improved a lot, and she could walk unassisted. She was wringing a handkerchief, tenderly wiping Claude’s cheeks.

Arm in arm with her husband Derrick, Magnolia furrowed her brows. “Mom, shall we ask that Dr. Quigley for help tonight? She’s so young, and Claude has been like this for many years…

Magnolia had her doubts.

Even if Gwendolyn was Enoch’s apprentice, she was barely in her twenties. Magnolia’s husband had told her that the girl was ambitious and perhaps seeking fame under pretenses!

They even suspected Enoch had cured Howard’s legs, but he credited Gwendolyn for boosting his apprentice’s profile.

Eve spoke with conviction, “Of course! She is our honored guest tonight. Don’t let her age fool you. She’s quite capable. Besides, we have no other options,”

“Eve is right. We should give her a chance. Derrick added, his eyes flickering as he maintained a polite smile.

His hands clenched subtly at his sides. He hoped this Gwendolyn was all smoke and mirrors and that Claude would never wake up. Because if he did, Derrick’s dark deeds from twenty–two years ago would come to light.

His gaze darkened as he looked at Claude, lying motionless on the hospital bed. It was harsh but necessary. If Claude hadn’t stumbled upon Derrick’s secret, Derrick would never have struck.

Unfortunately, Claude hadn’t died and became a mute, vegetative witness.

Derrick thought of Gwendolyn’s face, which bore a vague resemblance. He then dismissed the ridiculous suspicion. After all, he was Sure the baby girl was dead.
