Chapter Fifteen
“This is my aunt and Luna of the Blessed Moon pack, Marlene,” he said with a smile and Cassy’s eyes widened.
His aunt!? It can’t be. She looked so young and beautiful and she made him smile. How close were they?
Oh no. She had been jealous of her sister-in-law!
“Good day, your highness. You may address me as Cassy,” she bowed her head and tried to curtsey but the pain in her leg won’t let her. “I apologize for my rudeness,” she bowed her head.
Marlene smiled and touched her shoulder. “It’s nothing,” she stepped closer and brought her lips close to Cassy’s ear. “You look good when you are jealous though,”
Cassy’s cheeks became red. Who told her she was jealous? She needed someone to tell her that anything that had to do with Kai was none of her business.
Marlene stepped away and winked at Cassy who looked away immediately.
“What’s wrong with your foot?” Kai asked, noticing how she stood as she tried not to put pressure on one foot.
Cassy opened her mouth to reply but the blonde guy beat her to it.
“She sprained it,” he spoke. “So I helped her massage it.” he grinned, making her wonder why he had to explain that much.
“Gabriel,” Cassy watched Kai’s eyes darken as soon as he set his eyes on him.
He knew his cousin had been there all along but had refused to acknowledge his presence but now he was intentionally trying to get on nerves!
“Hello, my dear cousin,” Gabriel grinned, his arm around her shoulder tightening.
Cassy was confused. What was going on?
Kai looked like he was going to chop off Gabriel’s head while the other had a smile on his face with a sinister look in his eyes.
Marlene seemed like she heard Cassy’s thoughts as she tried to touch him to calm him down but with the twitch of his arm, she understood that he did not want anyone to touch him.
She glanced at Cassy and Cassy read it as an apologetic look for her inability to calm him down.
“Get your hands off her!” Kai suddenly yelled, making everyone excluding Gabriel flinch. It seemed as if he was used to this side of Kai.
Cassy could not help but wonder what had gone wrong between the brothers.
Gabriel let out a peal of emotionless laughter. “Why? Did you not say you don’t like her because she was weak?”
Everyone’s eyes widened. Different thoughts swirling in their heads.
Marlene and Kai were surprised. They wondered if he had overheard or if someone had informed him of it.
For Cassy, she did not know what to think as tears flooded her eyes and her shoulders quivered, causing her to lower her head. Was that how he went around telling people and family about her?
“Did you tell her the reason why you agreed was because of her and you are also regretting it because of her–” At this point, Gabriel’s face began to contort into that of pain.
“Hold it there, Gabriel! Do not get on my nerves!!” Kai screamed angrily.
The entire hallway was silent; you could almost hear a pin drop if there was any but that would have only happened if Gabriel could stop laughing at Kai’s face which mirrored his.
“What’s with the expression Kai? Perhaps… do you hate it when I see or even touch you hated weak ma–”
“That’s enough,” Cassy’s voice was low from crying so they did not hear her well.
“I said get your hands–”
“And I said that was enough!” Cassy yelled, making the rest of them still.
She removed Gabriel’s arm from around her and began to leap.
“W-where are you headed?” Kai stammered.
She turned and lifted her head up revealing her red eyes.
“None of your business,” she spat and with that, she leapt away.
Eyes leaving Cassy’s retreating frame, Kai immediately gripped Gabriel by his shirt.
“Calm down. Kai, calm down and let go of his shirt,” Marlene tried to talk to him.
“No, aunt, leave him be. Allow him to do his worst like he always does,” the grin on his lips never disappearing, making him seem like a maniac.
Kai raised his hand to punch him but closed his eyes tightly and tried to control the raging beast in him before dropping his hand back and pushing with the other.
“Do not appear in front of me if you do not want to join mother,” he spat and walked away in the same direction Cassy had gone.
Marlene sighed and began to go in the direction Kai had gone but she stopped and turned to face Gabriel.
“I warned you about this before, stop this useless enmity! I would have to report to your uncle,” she glared at him before continuing her movement.
Gabriel sighed and pushed his long hair backwards with his fingers. “Fucking family,”
Marlene searched for Kai for a while but still could not find him. Then, she decided to find his mate.
Having watched her mother go through this, she understood how the lady was feeling and she prayed to the moon goddess to guide them and wad off everything causing them to have a rift.
She had been reading a lot of fairytales lately but still, she believed that the hatred to love or enemies to lovers theme was real and she was sure that it was going to happen one day.
But first, she needed to help her clear her thoughts.
“Your highness, she is sitting beneath the olive tree in the garden,” a servant reported bowing her head.
Marlene nodded and dismissed her with a wave of her hand. She took in a deep breath and headed to the garden.
She found Cassy sitting beneath the large tree, staring into space. She was so lost in thoughts that she had not noticed when Marlene sat beside her.
“Food for your thought, Cassy,” she said in a low voice but loud enough to snap her out of her thoughts which made her flinch.
“W-what are you doing here?” Cassy shut her eyes and opened them. She was not supposed to ask that. “I– I mean how did you find me?”
Marlene shook her head. “Do you underestimate me that much? I have eyes everywhere,” she chuckled.
Cassy looked away and continued staring into space.
A pregnant silence followed. Marlene did not want to pressure the lass but at the same time she wanted to speak in the favor of her lovely nephew. She did not want him to live in regret as his father had done.
“What is on your mind? Speak to me,” she prompted, jolting her out of her thoughts. Again.
Why was she always in her head?
“It’s not–”
“And I would not accept no as an answer, especially in this. I may not be the best mother but my kids love this side of me,” Marlene said calmly and smiled when she saw Cassy’s reaction. “Amazed, aren’t you? I have 3 boys,”
“Oh my, you look so young,” Cassy acknowledged.
Marlene nodded. “Mm. That’s what my mate always says,”
She got the reaction she wanted from her. Cassy lowered her head looking like she had recalled a bad memory. Marlene knew she was breaking and was going to speak at that moment and she waited to listen.
“Mother died in an accident when I was six years old and father remarried a year later for he was the beta so he could not look after me properly but it seem like everything turned worse from there,” she recounted and let out a small smile before continuing.Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
“Tabitha hated me from the onset and she never tried to conceal it. Father never seemed to care for I was his princess and this angered her. She tried to turn her daughter against me but Audrey and I are really close and I don’t think it would ever happen,” she glanced at her with a smile on her face.
Cassy sighed and looked down at her fingers. “I have always wanted a mate. Father and mother had a really good relationship and I craved for one. I wanted my mate to acknowledge me and fall in love with me but as time went on I decided that if he was strong and capable just like your nephew it would be perfect for I am just a weak wolf. But then the moon goddess decided to give me part of what I asked,”
Silence reigned for a while as Cassy tried to gather her thoughts.
“I do not know if he had told you but we had a pact. I just wanted to leave father so I could finally breathe the air of freedom. Little did I know that I was heading into another dungeon. What did I ever do wrong–” she broke down finally, tears streaming down her face.
Marlene went to stand in front of her and wrapped Cassy’s arms around her waist, making her rest her upper body against her lower.
She let her cry her heart out before sitting beside her.
“Kai became like this since the demise of his mother. I give any details about what had happened then unless he does but whatever happened then had ruined him and changed his thought on a lot of things,”
Cassy stared at Marlene with a lot of questions flooding her head.
“I apologise for my inability to answer your questions. Perhaps you should ask him,” she leaned forward and whispered. “Do not always wait for your wish to come through by itself, you can push it. I think he is here to get you,”
Cassy looked ahead and found Kai standing at a distance with his eyes on… her?
Marlene got up, kissed Cassy’s cheeks and winked at her before walking away and on her way she patted Kai’s shoulder.
They spoke for a couple of minutes before he began to walk toward her. Cassy froze in her seat for a while but when he was a few steps away from her she quickly stood up and tried to leave but she ended up slipping and fell into his arms immediately.
Staring into his green eyes which held a lot of emotions, she could not help but recall Marlene’s words.
“Whatever happened then had ruined him and changed his thought on a lot of things,”
“Do not always wait for your wish to come through by itself, you can push it,”
What if her wish can no longer be fulfilled?
