KNIGHT
“I saw it in the news, and it’s getting stronger according to the weather report, and they called it a fucking phenomenon,” Califf grunted from the other line.
“Uncle Lennox said it should be sunny according to the weather forecast on his phone, but it’s so dark here, darker than the night, and the wind is getting stronger. It’s scary as hell.”
“We should inform the alphas,” Califf suggested.
“You read my mind, Cal. If you can’t contact me later, the service is off.”
“I’ll see you soon.” The call hung up. My pack was waiting for my decision.
I looked at them one by one, and I sensed their fear, which was also all over their faces.
“I know you are all scared, but so do I. This weather change is something we can’t control. What we can do right now is stay put. If an ancient warlock, the same person who spread the virus, manipulates this, then we might be able to stop it.”
“How do we fight him with this weather, Alpha?” Duncan asked.
“It’s dangerous to go out there, but if he is manipulating it, he should be stopped at all costs before it could create more damage. Right now, we will wait for our friends and allies to arrive, then we can make decisions and plans. Stay put, and no one should go out in this weather.”
The rain just poured heavy outside. The raindrops sounded like stones dropping on the roof.
“As of this moment, nothing’s to be done, but if sick creatures are coming our way, that’s the time we should do something and keep this packed house safe and secure. If any of you want to get in the bunker, now is the time before the situation worsens,” Nirvana said.
“Good job, Luna.” I mind-linked her.
A bang on the door caught our attention. Azrel opened the door wide. The first people to walk in were Califf, Zarah, Lyon, Tor, and Carter. Their coats were wet, except for Zarah. I didn’t ask how.
“It looks like there’s a lot of tension in the house,” Califf said, shaking my hand. “The weather is terrible.”
“The alphas will be here shortly,” Zarah informed us before turning to Nirvana. “Are you catching up on something?”
“Earlier, I felt something on my shoulder, like a sting, before the thunder. Other than my stomach has been in knots, nothing, but I know it has something to do with the weather changes.”
“Are you okay?” Zarah looked worried.
“If you mean if he can mind-control me? No, I’m fine.”
“The shield won’t be able to keep it up any longer. Once it’s gone, prepare for the worst. You may encounter different creatures rushing inside. Don’t hesitate. When their eyes are pitch black, they’re not in control anymore, even if it’s your friends or family,” Zarah added as everyone listened.
Another alpha had arrived-Alpha Michael from Vegas and three of his men.
“Welcome to the vineyards, Alpha Michael.” After our short pleasantries, Alpha Frye, Thomas, and the other three enforcers with him, Alpha Ryden and his men, and Grady and his beta Everlee and Calder followed. Kain and Dane also arrived.
“Grandpa, what are you doing here?” Nirvana went downstairs and hugged Case.
“If this is the last fight, then there’s no place I’d rather be.”
“You should have stayed with Alexander.”
“No, honey. I want to be here for you.”
“Are we late?”
Growled erupted the moment they smelled vampires.
“Easy, everyone. Keep your fangs and claws in. These are Archibald and Chance from the United Kingdom. They are our friends.”
“How could you trust them?” Michael roared, questioning the vampires’ involvement.
It was inconvenient, but so was what was outside. The longer we waited and discussed our arrangement, the more people were getting harmed.
“Without them, the dagger is useless. So before we rip each other’s throat, you have to swear you won’t harm them,” Nirvana said calmly. “If you trust us, I’m asking you to treat them with kindness and set aside your hatred for their kind.”
“I mean no harm, fellas. We’re here to help while there’s no sunshine.” Archibald, as charming as he was, waved his hand.
“Thank you,” Nirvana said, but the tension was still thick in the air, and everyone was still alert. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Apology for being fashionably late.” The Alpha King just walked in, making everyone silent.
“He always knows how to make an entrance,” Nirvana whispered to Zarah.
“Ignore him.”
“So where’s Shadow?”
“My mate is pregnant,” Califf said coolly to Nirvana.
“What?” Her eyes widened, happiness dancing in them. “Oh, my God. Congratulations.”
“Thank you, Nirvana.”
“Then what are you doing here?” I asked Califf.
“This is where I should be. If we don’t win this battle, then I can’t give my daughter a good life.”
“Daughter? Oh, my God,” she gushed.
I looked at Nirvana. “Maybe someday, sweetheart.”
She smiled at me, making my heart skip a beat. “Yeah. Maybe someday.”
“Alphas, please follow me to the office so we can start with our plan of attack.”
The alphas with Zarah, the alpha king, the vampire regent, Kain, and my mate gathered in my office.
“The shield can’t hold any longer,” Zarah informed us again, “even if it will, maybe only for a few hours, but they will dig underground or hurt humans outside this land.”
“If we can all agree, we will go to the center of the storm while our people will stay behind us to fight against the infected beings coming in,” Sebastien suggested.
“How do we get into the center of the storm?” Michael asked. Only this time, he wasn’t cocky but acted like a real alpha.
“I can portal you all there. The storm is only dangerous from the sky, but on the ground, it’s his way of protecting himself or whatever he is doing down there. My guess is he was infecting more creatures.”
“Or gathering the source of his power,” Nirvana told Zarah.
“Obviously.” Sebastien pointed at the center of the storm on the map. “Whatever in this spot must be very important to him.”
“It’s a full moon tonight. Werewolves are more feral, and he is way more powerful, too,” Archibald said.
“Are you ready, Luna?” Kain asked her.
“Not really, Kain, but do I have a choice?” she chuckled.
“You can do it. All you have to do is believe in your destiny.”
“Thank you, Alpha Frye.” She smiled timidly at everyone. “Whatever you see there, don’t get distracted. He might trick you, but those are what you want to see. I’ve been there, done that, and he showed me how the people I care about died.”
“You need to get closer to him. The alphas and you, Archie, should fight together to give Nirvana a way to get to Cyrius. And you, Nirvana, you should resist and never fall for whatever he offers you. He knows your weakness.” Zarah looked at me briefly. “He may offer your parents or your life with Knight, but trust your heart.”
“I know.”
“We should go out to do a ritual of link-binding. In this way, we can communicate through our mind link,” Zarah said.
The storm was getting stronger. The doors and windows shook, and it was getting darker and darker outside. I couldn’t almost see anything.
Zarah conducted the binding link rituals, and everyone had access to the mind link. “Where are your weapons?”
I took Zarah to the weaponry, and she chanted a spell on them.
“Those who wanted to stay back can use these guns. You and Nirvana should talk before we go to war with the most powerful warlock in history. Stay here and let me call her.”
I grabbed a handgun and two mags and slipped them at the back of my jeans.
Nirvana came, and her eyes wandered around. “You didn’t include this in the tour.”
“I guess you don’t need one from this.” I cupped her face and looked at her directly in her eyes. She looked terrified but beautiful nonetheless. “You better come back to me.”
“Whatever happens there, I want you to know I will always love you. And I will come looking for you. That’s a promise.” She took off her engagement ring and the diamond wedding band.
“What are you doing?” Alarmed, I asked.
“Hey. Don’t worry. I’m going to get them back from you. These rings promise that I will find you whatever happens to me, and I want you to be patient with me, okay?” She swallowed hard, but tears fell from her eyes.
“Sweetheart, we will survive this.” I wiped the tears that rolled down her cheeks. “And I love you, Nirvana.” I felt my heart breaking.
My chest clenched so hard as I hugged her tight and took her scents into my lungs so I would always have a reason to fight, to survive.
When I couldn’t take it anymore, I kissed her like it was the last time I got the chance to kiss her, hold her, and see her.
I poured everything into that kiss to show her how much I needed her in my life, like the air I breathed, and because I couldn’t afford to lose her.
My mate.
