NIRVANA
Despite being imprisoned in this solitary confinement, I still felt our mating bond. I could feel if Knight was pissed off or worried about something, and it just confirmed that something was wrong when Shadow came in a hurry and called Zack out of the room.
“What’s going on?” I felt suddenly helpless inside.
They must be talking through their pack link, but when Zack left quickly, my desperation rocked me, and my chest heaved.
“Shadow, please?”
She made a deep sigh before she faced me. How she looked at me, I knew something terribly went wrong back at the vineyards.
“There’s been an attack at the vineyards. That’s all I know. Knight left with Califf, Zarah, and the guys.”
“Then you should let me out, Shadow. I need to be there. I can help.” I stepped closer to her, but the invisible walls kicked me back when I went too close. “Shit. God, I hate magic!”
“It’s not up to me, and I don’t know how to take it down.”
Please?” I believed her. “Then call someone. Aira. She’s a witch, maybe she can help me. She’s Zarah’s student, right?”
“I thought you don’t care.” She must be listening to what I said to Zack.”
“Yeah, I don’t, but as long as I am their Luna. I am responsible for them. I know you understand that. If you keep me here, then what happens to them? It’s on you, Shadow.”
“I’m so sorry, Vana. I wish I could help.” She started stepping back.
“Shadow, please? Don’t do this to me! I need to be there.”
She stopped when she reached the door and turned around, her eyes glinting. “Then promise me you won’t reject Knight.”
“Why in the hell would you defend that asshole? I’m sure he’s blaming himself right now for what happened while he was not there in the vineyards. Good for him, but I feel terrible for those who got hurt. Now, please?”
“Just give me your word.”
“No! But I know how to get out of here.” I went to the bathroom and jumped out of the confinement. I didn’t have shoes other than thin slippers. I approached the door, and the two guys looked shocked to see me.
“How?” said the cocky college boy.
“Don’t piss me off, or I will break your snout, boy.” I walked towards the door and got in.
“Vana!” Shadow was calling my name and thought I was still in the bathroom.
I poked her on the shoulder, startling her. Her eyes were wide when she turned back. “How?”
I shrugged. “I need to go. Where are my phone and boots?”
“Goddess, your husband is gonna wring my neck. How am I going to explain this to him? Come with me.”
“He won’t harm you,” I assured her and followed her outside.
“I’m surprised you haven’t escaped if you found a way out.”
“I was gonna use it for something like this.” Guys were looking at us, particularly at me, as we walked into the vast living room of the pack house.
“It’s fine, guys. At ease.”
“Your things are in the office.” She unlocked the door, went behind the desk, and opened a drawer. “Here’s your phone.”
“He doesn’t really care about me. He did not take my phone.”
“Maybe this kind of emergency he’s expected. That’s why he kept it here.” She pulled a file cabinet drawer and pointed at my boots. “Take them. Zarah told us not to touch it.”
I grabbed my boots and saw the dagger was still there. “Thanks. I owe you.”
“Then, don’t-”
“Never mind. I don’t owe you anything. You helped him keep me in the worse than a jail cell.”
“I know you’re still pissed at me.”
“It’s fine, Shadow. Thanks for the help, but I have to go.”
“How are you supposed to go there? Let me call Zarah to portal you.”
“That won’t be necessary.” I breathed deeply. I’d never teleported that far, but it was now or never. I jumped.
I went a little far into the woods, but this area looked familiar, where I last found myself, whining in excruciating pain.
I instantly caught a lot of scents of musty, mossy, and rich earth, but also some scents of werewolves, fear, and blood. And definitely not friendly.
Ducking down, I went to the tree and hid myself there. I briefly closed my eyes to listen to the footsteps and voices. Then, I saw an intruder creeping slowly towards me. His movements were precise, but Asina was better at stealth than him.
I pulled out the dagger. Before he could shift and lung at me, I swung my arm and stabbed the fucker on his neck. His body fell on the root, bleeding profusely to his death.
If there was one thing that terrified me, it was that I was too calm, taking people’s lives. I knew they were the bad guys, but it was still killing- one thing that changed me into someone or something I didn’t recognize anymore. Considering I didn’t even flinch or hesitate, it should bother me.
And then he did not come alone. He was merely the scout. At least six of them were walking out of the property. How did they get in the barrier? They must have a witch working for them, or they found a way to break it. Something caught my eye that sucked me in a breath.
Shit.
They got McKaye. He looked wounded, and his wrists were burning, shackled with silver laced cuffs.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Six of them? How would I fight them when I had no more shield? Fuck it. I needed to save McKaye, or they would torture him to get information and probably the reason why they kept him alive.
“Hey, fuckers!”
They halted, and all six turned to me. Two shifted at the back. McKaye also turned around, his face busted, blood trickling down his face.
“Really? Six against one? That’s barely an odd.”
“Well, now, two of you,” the fake blond-haired guy with a scar on his chin said. “And you’re exactly what we were looking for. Lucky for us, we didn’t have to torture him. All we do is kill him.”
“Fine.” I shrugged, even if my heart was hammering. “Uncuff him and let him go. I’m willingly going with you.” I used the conceal spell to hide the dagger before I offered my wrist.
“Vana, don’t,” McKaye protested, hissing. “Go back, please?”
“Not your decision anymore, McKaye.” I stepped closer to these fuckers and eyed for two wolves, one silver and the other brown.
“That’s Good, but you know we can’t let him go, either,” said the Latino man, smirking.
As the four werewolves snarled at me, and I was just a meter closer to them, McKaye twisted his wrist, growling at me. Asina was already pulsing through me, roaring and vibrating in my bones.
Jumping, I aimed my punch at the fake blond guy. My fist broke his chest. Then I vanished in the sparkle of Asina’s blue flame and came back, breaking the wolf’s back. He screamed in agony.
As the time slowed, I could see them in a deliberately slothful movement. I twisted the dagger in my hand, and it thrummed against my grip. In a fluid movement, I yanked it, whipped it through the air, and jabbed it against the wolf’s neck, slicing it open. His own blood was dripping against his brown coat.
The last two werewolves fought against McKaye in handcuffs. The Latino guy snarled and narrowed his eyes at me before he shifted into a gray wolf.
“You shouldn’t have done that.” I threw the dagger at him, hitting him in the eye. He fell on the ground, howling in pain. I ran to him and pressed the dagger with my boot.
The two werewolves were about to bite McKaye. I jabbed my fist in the air, and the werewolf in a white shirt flew up the tree. His unconscious body hung loosely on the branch.
McKaye managed to bite the werewolf on the shoulder, tearing off his artery. Growling, he spat out the blood from his mouth.
I pulled out the dagger from the Latino’s eye and wiped it on his shirt.
“You are reckless!” Furious, McKaye yelled at me.
“You’re welcome.” I went to him and looked at his wrists. “Let me help you with that.”
“Just find the fucking key so we can get out of here.” He tipped his head at the fake blond guy. “Check his pocket.”
I fished for the key in the dead guy’s pocket and pulled out the key and a piece of paper. I unfolded it and found my picture printed from the council’s bounty.
“See? I’m famous.” I showed it to McKaye, who struggled with the silver-laced cuffs.
“Son of bitches.”
I got him off the cuffs. “You can heal, right?”
“Not fast. It needs the silver to get off my skin.” Then he looked at me. Gratitude shone in his eyes.
“Save your breath. Who’s injured?”
“A lot. Wait. Where did you come from?”
“Knight locked me up in the confinement at Califf’s compound.”
“What? That’s impossible. He wouldn’t do that to you.” He gripped my arms, eyes filled with shock.
“You don’t know? Now, I’m going to kill him.”
