The realization that I have been living in lies was heartbreaking. And still it kind of seemed familiar. Riley ran his palm over his face before looking straight into my eyes. “When I found you and brought you to the pack, Jenny told me that you must have a mate but I didn’t believe it. There was no mating mark on your body to confirm her instincts. When Jenny couldn’t heal you, I requested for a powerful healer to check you and the healer stated that you have a mate and you are pregnant. But she the healer didn’t tell me this until you regained your consciousness and can’t identify yourself.” He paused to study my expression.

I couldn’t utter a word but all I did was cry my eyes out.

“You were tested and the brain result showed that you are suffering from amnesia because of the fall and you might never be able to regain your memory. I still doubted the healer that said you are pregnant so we decided to run another test. And result proved that you are carrying a pup in your womb.” Riley said.

“Why didn’t you tell me the truth?” I asked.

“I hid the truth because it might affect you.. I mean your mental state. How did you end up pregnant without a mate mark? I thought you tried to commit suicide by falling down the cliff probably because of the baby. But Jenny told me not to make assumptions and she suggested that I look into your background.” Riley answered.

“So you found.. out that I really do have a mate?” I sniffed.

Riley nodded. “Yes.. I found him but it was too complicated to even tell you about it. I attended the alphas meeting where it was presented that an alpha lost his daughter and we should send our condolences. And it turned out that I am a close ally to your native pack and a good friend to your father.”

Another wave of tears flowed. “What’s the.. name of my father? And the name of my native pack?” I asked.

“Your father’s name is Lance and the name of your pack is moonlight. I travelled to give my condolences to a good friend and with a mission to find the truth. Your father showed me your pictures and he explained that you rejected your mate after finding out that he cheated on you with his best friend who was also carrying his pup in her womb.” Riley opened the drawer and brought out a picture.

“This is a picture of you that I took from your father without him knowing about it.” He added.

I sobbed uncontrollably. So my mate did all that to me.

“Your mate chased you down the cliff so you wouldn’t leave him. But you rejected him at that point and mistakenly fell off the cliff. You were running away because you didn’t want him anymore. It was hard for you to believe that he could cheat on you. So I decided to help you forget your past completely, to protect you and also for my own benefit.” Riley passed the picture to me and I reached out to take it.

“Since I can’t produce a pup that would take over the pack when I am gone.. so I decided to accept your pup as my own. I took you in and also formulated a contract in my head. You started showing signs of pregnancy but you called it heat. I didn’t give you the heat medication because it would destroy the growing pup. And I saw it as a chance to make a fast move on you. The heat was a perfect timing to have sex and claim your child. Thankfully, you accepted my offer and it worked out as I have planned it.”

I swallowed hard. “I should.. I should have known. You.. didn’t get intimate with me.. after that time. You avoided me.. and-”

Riley cuts me off. “I didn’t let you leave the pack on purpose even when you made it clear that you wanted to stay. You were assumed dead so I knew it would be plain torture if you are found by someone who knows you. I intentionally kept you around because of this secret.”

I stared down at the younger version of me. I have been living a fake life. “So.. my ex mate’s name is Kayden Scott and he is the alpha of black moon pack. So.. in a long run, Kayden.. is Alex and Avery’s father.. and they are both mated to each other.” I reason loudly.

“The woman Kayden slept with bear him a female wolf before you gave birth to Alexander.” He muttered.

This realization was driving me insane. “This is impossible. How can they be mated to each other? The.. the.. moon.. goddess can’t pair siblings up.” I mumbled saying my thoughts loud.

“Exactly! This is why I am against this mating!” Riley pointed out.

I stood still on a spot without looking up at him. “My mate cheated on me and I ran off… but I ended up with a manipulator.. and a liar.” I stopped but still thinking out loud. “So it is true that.. the devil you know yesterday is better than the Angel you just met.” I completed.

“I am sorry, Edda. I have lived with this guilt over the years which has ate deep into my heart. I shouldn’t have hid the truth from you.” Riley said in an apologetic tone.
