Fucked up Family
Drew comforted Lily, caressing her back to help her ease the pain, recalling her mother. She felt her husband was probably still had the confusion and expecting positive news from his father.
A voice roared from one hallway. “Because he’s your dad!”
All of them turned to face Master Walton, Drew’s grandfather, who had just entered the house from the back. His presence increased her unease because she didn’t currently have a strong relationship with the old man.
“Grandpa!” Drew gasped as his eyes widened. Lily’s lips formed a line.
“Cristina is my secretary. Of course, I know everything about her. If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that my son still loves Cristina, regardless of their marriages!” Master Walton said, casting an inquisitive glance at Drew’s father.
However, Lily’s mind remained fixated on the fact that her biological father was the same man whom she considered her boss for two months and who was also the father of Danica and Orion. Mr. Arvesso was her dad! Did he know she existed? Was he aware that she was alive and that someone else had raised her?
Did he know she was alone, hurt, and mistreated?
Drew gave Lily a bear hug as she broke down in tears. “Babe, are you alright?”
Lily shook her head, unable to speak.
“Dad, you always ruin everything!” Mr. Andrew Walton was furious at his father, noticing that her body was shaking as she learned the truth.
Master Walton’s voice roared across the room, “What did I do? I did nothing but try to fix the problems you gave me!”
But Mr. Walton didn’t back down either. “May I remind you that you caused me problems? For what? Twenty years! I spent two decades trapped in my marriage! You forced me into an arranged marriage and handed me an unstable wife! It all started with you, including Cristina, whom I lost!”
Drew suddenly lost his composure after hearing about his mother. If Lily hadn’t been around, he likely would have grabbed Mr. Andrew Walton and punched him in the face.
“Don’t insult my mom! You’re a liar and a cheater!”
“See what you did to my son?!” Instead, his father grew angry with Master Walton. “I don’t know what you said to Drew to make him believe everything you’re saying!”
“Drew, calm down. Your dad never cheated! If he did, I would have had no chance with Cristina,” defended Mr. Arvesso.
“Really, Uncle Niel? Grandpa himself claimed my dad loved Lily’s mother until now! Moreover, while I was living on campus, my mother constantly called and complained about how much she detested my father for cheating!”
“Because you believed too much in your insane mother!” Mr. Walton pointed out.
Drew was consumed by anger, sorrow, and misery, trembling with emotion. Now that Lily understood the depth of Drew’s resentment toward his father, she realized there was little hope for reconciliation.
Drew roared, “Don’t you dare! My mother went insane because of you!”
“Drew, stop! Stop, please!” Lily’s hand coiled up, as if she wished to shield herself from the escalating tension in the room. She was frightened, seeing that every man present was furious, and she felt weary of her husband’s arguments.
Drew couldn’t hold back the tears, and Lily felt lost in the midst of their emotional turmoil. Their hearts weighed heavily, and everything seemed chaotic. However, she was determined to find a solution before they left.
The four men seemed to have drained their energy. Lily had never seen Drew so profoundly wounded. He clung to her, sobbing, his body trembling. His face remained buried in her neck, seeking solace. It was difficult for them to revisit the memories of their late mothers, whom they both loved dearly.
“Babe, we have to stay strong… I’m as angry with your mother as you are with mine. Do you understand what I mean?” she asked Drew.
If they wanted to uncover the truth, they both needed to be brave.
Mr. Walton’s tone grew calmer as he continued, “Your mother forced Cristina out of the building, and I made it seem like I had an affair with another woman. Drew, before that night, your mom had been seeing a psychiatrist for two years, and I knew it would upset you more than anything else. Your mother was not mentally stable, and I later found out that she had been in therapy even before I married her. When she pushed Cristina, she had not slept for three whole days!”
Lily had a hunch about that. According to Jericho, Kenneth fell in love with Drew’s mother after meeting her at the hospital. She was just twelve years old when Kenneth was nineteen and started his training in the psychiatric ward of a private hospital. This indicated that Mrs. Walton visited the hospital even when her mother was still alive.
“I still have a question. What did my father-or, I mean, Mr. Martin-read in the letter that Mrs. Walton wrote for me?”
“I don’t think you should read that, Lily,” said Mr. Arvesso. She could see the concern on his face.
She asked cautiously, “Why?”
Mr. Walton answered the question. “It’s distressing because she’s not even apologetic for what she did. If anyone should read it, it’s Drew because his mother was nuts.”
“Why did the Martins hide that from me?”
“Because Cristina’s scumbag husband was irresponsible! Rather than having the fact that he beat up your mother exposed, he would prefer for everyone to believe that his wife committed suicide!” Mr. Arvesso replied, gritting his teeth.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
“How about you, Grandpa? Why did you keep it a secret?”
Master Walton declared, “To protect you, of course!”
“Protect my ass! It’s because he doesn’t want to defile our family’s name! Instead of accepting the fact that your mom and I were involved, he would much rather have people believe that someone committed suicide in the Walton Group building!”
Mr. Andrew Walton gave his father a sharp look.
But at this point, Drew needed Lily more than ever. Drew was trembling from his excessive anguish.
“We’re going!” Drew exclaimed, taking her out of the mansion.
Drew clutched Lily closely in the car, acknowledging that Walton’s family members had all played a trick on him by hiding the ugly reality. She was hurting for both of them. The families they come from are too messed up. Only the two of them could be truly sincere with one another.
He whispered in her ear, “Lily, I’m sorry.” She knew that he was regretting what his mother had done to her. “If I could only bring back the past…”
“Love, we can’t change the way the stars fall-we can’t rewrite it as the song states. We can only create wonderful things by moving forward. I love you so much, Drew…” Lily wiped away Drew’s tears.
She had made a promise! Everything between her and Drew would remain magical until their final breath.
