Branch Thirty Six
Jessica watched as they got out and the room fell silent. Ever since Leslie got inside she had been going on and on nonstop about everything she found worth talking about. Now that she was alone she missed the chatter. She was only glad she was able to successfully uproot Xavier who had refused to leave the hospital room all day.
She stretched to retrieve the remote from the cupboard and switched it on to a soap opera. She was not a fan of television but watching the soap opera would let her sleep faster.
The door to the room opened and Angel popped her head inside and smiled. She has been worried about the young lady since she was rushed out in the morning and she had volunteered with all her might to be the one who brought dinner for the young lady.
“Hello Young lady,” Angel said walking in with a lunch box and closing the door behind her.
Jessica unconsciously uttered a sigh of relief. The silence was killing her and it was barely an hour. She has slept all afternoon and now even the moving pictures were not enough to put her to sleep again.
“Angel, Come sit here,” Jessica said gesturing to the chair beside the bedside.
Angel skipped over and put the lunch box on the bedside table. She sat and smiled again at her. She was glad that she looked well.
“I am so glad that you are okay,” Angel said with a sigh of relief. “I was really worried this morning” she added telling the older woman her struggles.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
“Xavier only exaggerated the situation” Jessica responded with a laugh ending her statement.
It was true she was not looking well but the way Xavier reacted was more than what she was going through.
“Roselle specially made you this meal” Angel stood up and opened the lunch box which contained a plate of Chinese fried rice and some fried chicken. There was also a bowl of soup and some fruit too.
“Would you like to eat now young lady?” Angel asked.
She had been instructed to deliver the food, make sure she had something to eat, and come back home. The caregiver who was also taking care of Dawson would double her workload that night and check on Jessica also.
Angel was slightly not interested in leaving Jessica. She wanted to be the one taking care of her all night but she would only wait till she fell asleep before slipping away in the night and going back to the Delgado mansion.
“Yeah sure,” Jessica said and Angel prepared the food and brought it up to her.
“Do you want me to feed you?” Angel asked holding up the spoon.
“I’m quite well enough to feed myself” Jessica responded collecting the spoon from her hand.
“Okay,” Angel said turning to get a bottle of water from the mini fridge.
“Can I have warm water instead?” Jessica asked.
“Sure,” Angel said returning the bottle and turning to the electric kettle by the fridge. She poured one of the bottles of water on the counter into the kettle and heated it a little before turning it into a cup.
“Here you go”
Meanwhile, Xavier, Brian, and Leslie are sitting down to dinner at the restaurant of a seven-star hotel.
“Why did you not have a big ceremony?” Leslie asked throwing some table chips into her mouth.
“Because I did not want to” Xavier answered. Although Xavier was with few words he had to always answer when it came to Leslie. She would push him to the extreme and force him to answer. That was her style.
“But it’s every woman’s dream to walk down the aisle and throw her bouquet while round to greet the guest,” Leslie said dreamily her mind going back to the day of her wedding.
Xavier looks uncomfortable and picks up the menu. They had ordered their food and the chef was making it but her statements and questions were getting on his nerves already.
“Do not tell me that you did not ask for her opinion and it got married in the courthouse” Leslie said using her palm to cover her wide-opened mouth.
“Does she know?” Xavier asked directing the question at Brian.
From her constant questions, he couldn’t know if she knew the circumstances of the marriage. Brian looked away and began to count the number of chairs in the VIP lounge they were seated.
Xavier knew that there was no way that Brian would keep a secret from his wife but he was hoping he would make an exception and keep this one.
“So you know how we got married. How can you ask us to have a ceremony since your husband has told you? Let me out this out there. We would get a divorce after a year of being together” Xavier said and took a sip of his water.
“You are such a jerk” Leslie screamed.
The only two people who were dining turned to face them.
“Easy,” Brian said rubbing his wife’s shoulders. He did not have this information before but hearing it now he agrees with his wife that Xavier was such a jerk.
“Don’t you know what she would suffer through in the hands of the press for just being your wife? Then you would make her suffer more by divorcing her?” Leslie asked.
She thought that some screws must have gone loose in his head.
“You only care about your self and you are an ass” Leslie continued. She was fuming. If she did not like the woman Xavier married maybe she would not have minded if he divorced her, but she took an immense liking to Jessica and here this jerk was talking about a divorce a year later.
“You remember what happened to her just a few weeks ago? Yet you think people who do not take your side and blame her if anything goes wrong? You are covered and she would be in hell. Why did you marry her only to make her miserable?” Leslie added.
She was pissed. She was furious. She couldn’t imagine what this man she once had a thing for was saying at the moment.
“Brian hold your woman down,” Xavier said embarrassment getting the best of him.
“Every thing she said is correct. If that we already ordered I would have left you here” Brian said and turns to pacify his wife by slightly rubbing her shoulders.
“You’re such a jerk”
