Branch Forty Six
Leslie had somehow convinced Jessica not to shop at her usual thrift stores. They entered one of the Gates fashion brand stores to get a dress.
“You are not only getting a dress, but you are also getting multiple high-end clothes alongside shoes and bags,” Leslie said with a high-pitched squeal.
“I have to be home to make lunch for Dawson,” Jessica said putting a wet cloth over Leslie’s excitement.
Leslie shook off the feeling and hoped that Jessica would come around after the shopping began.
“You’ll make it in time,” Leslie said. She knew it was mission impossible but she was so going to polish up Jessica to the standard of a Delgado Ladry.
Leslie was young when the former Lady Delgado died but she knew quite well how elegant and exotic she looked on the news and how she was a fashion icon. She was going to turn Jessica into a fashion icon and be by her side.
“Okay then, shall we begin?” Jessica asked.
Leslie signaled to the girl who was waiting to wait on them and one of them came closer.
“Hello ma’am I am Trinity and I would be serving you today what can I help you with?” the girl said politely.
“I am Leslie and this is Jessica Delgado” Leslie replied stressing the Delgado for the girl to hear.
The girl gasped and smiled. She knew the wealth of the Delgado and everyone knew it. If she can make this woman spend money she might even be promoted to manager soon. If this woman even allows her to the serving her every time she had then hit the real jackpot.
“Oh, I thought as much. Only a Delgado can pull off such a look. You look stunning in that simple dress” Trinity complimented her. Even though she had thought that her dress was something to be burnt immediately.
“Thank you,” Jessica said her mind distracted. Jessica knew they were only mere words of flattery. She was not a Delgado by birth so she was going over the line.
“Show us everything new from the latest collection, we would take everything she looks good in,” Leslie said pulling Jessica’s attention.
“Hurry along now,” Leslie said when she saw Jessica try to object.
“Don’t you think that’s a little too much?” Jessica asked tugging on her hand.
“Barely enough” Leslie scoffed. “We are going next door for more dresses and clothes. Enough of your faded jeans and top. Even though you want to look casual you have to wear those high-end brands. The whole city looks to you for fashion inspo now you can’t disappoint them” Leslie said with a hint of happiness.
She had never felt so happy. She gets to dress the wife of the richest corporation owner.
“Is it necessary?” Jessica asked. She was not convinced enough.
“Yes, it is,” Leslie said pulling her hand to one of the VIP dressing rooms.
“And for the event, you have to look stunning. Alicia Gates organizes one of the best parties in the city. It should be the Delgado family but Xavier is too busy with work.” Leslie said.
“Uhn uhn” Jessica replied absentmindedly.
“Oh my god I just got a great idea” Leslie screamed out and dropped the bottle of champagne she picked from the table.
“What is it?” Jessica asked facing her. She saw the glint in her eyes and her expression. She read into the meaning. “Oh No,” Jessica echoed again and again. She knew what she was seeing in her eyes and there was no way she would be agreeing to it.
“It would be wonderful if you can start hosting parties of your own”
“No parties,” Jessica said.
“How do you possibly want to assert your dominance?” Leslie asked her.
She had become an outcast but she thought by making friends with Jessica she could easily make her way back into society. It felt like she was using Jessica but she honestly did like her and wanted to be friends with her either way. Her organizing parties would just be a plus for her.
“I do not want to exert dominance,” Jessica said picking a mini cupcake and eating it.
“It would be so much fun. You would get to meet celebrities. They would die to be invited to any party the Delgado family throws” Leslie said trying to convince her.
Jessica did not feel convinced in the least bit. How does she explain to her friend she was going to get divorced in a little over eleven months? How does she explain that she would be left without almost nothing except an image that would make everyone point fingers at her?
“You need to make the most of this life before Xavier throws you out,” Leslie said and her hand immediately went up to her mouth.
“What did you just say now?” Jessica asked shocked.
‘Did Xavier tell them? Was she allowed to talk about it?’ she thought.
“I did not mean it like that I am sorry,” Leslie said immediately.
“Do not be sorry. How do you hear of this? Did Xavier tell you?” she asked confused.
“Yes he did and I told him off,” Leslie said ready to defend herself.
“There is no need to tell him off, I agreed to this and it’s fine,” Jessica told her.
“Oh, my God! It is very impossible to talk to both of you” Leslie screamed.
Trinity walked in with two ladies behind her rolling in a moveable cloth rack with wheels.
“These are the most recent dresses and wears from the Gates fashion factory. They are yet to be opened up to the entire world and I am sure they would suit you. Ms. Gates would be glad if you would be one of the first to model these dresses” Trinity said.
The words felt like someone had dumped a huge responsibility on Jessica’s shoulder. When she wanted to get married in haste, she was looking for an ordinary man who did not mind sharing his house with her for the time being. She never thought she would end up in the house of the richest man in the city.
“Get up,” Leslie said pulling Jessica’s hand. “Test them out,” Leslie said.
Jessica stood up and tested them out.
“Can someone help me with the zip?” Jessica shouted from the changing room.NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
“I would do it,” Leslie said stopping Trinity before she could enter. Trinity stopped and gave a fake smile. She hated that Leslie was here, it was like she was hell-bent on stealing her thunder. This was an opportunity to boost herself and climb the ranks but it seemed like Leslie was just there to destroy her efforts.
“You look stunning” Leslie commented when she pushed the curtains and entered inside.
“Do I?” Jessica asked unsure. She always had this complex that made her doubt herself.
“No single doubt about that,” Leslie said. She gently zipped up the dress and held Jessica’s shoulders that showed a little from the dress’s cold shoulder design.
“I know you might not want to but the only way you can protect yourself after you leave this relationship is for you to leave a strong woman. Stronger than how you got in there” Leslie said rubbing her hand.
“Strong?”
