Branch Eighty Two
“Wake up,” Xavier said shaking her a little. Jessica stirred in her sleep and then suddenly her eyes shot open.
“Where am I?” she asked wiping the drool that had now consumed her face.
“Aurora Haven,” Xavier said looking outside.
The plane had come to a complete stop almost thirty minutes ago but Xavier had quietly dismissed the crew as he then proceeded to watch her sleep peacefully.
“Oh we are here?” she asked with a sense of excitement. At first, she thought of leaving Chiachester City after the divorce. She knew that that might be the only way she would survive the criticism.
But after she got the restaurant the thought of leaving her dream behind because of a little criticism was hard to bear. She knew that she might not be able to see any other place outside Chiachester if not for such an opportunity and hence her excitement.
“You’re happy?” Xavier asked like her emotions were something strange.
“Although I do not want to impose on your business meeting, it still feels nice to be out of Chiachester City seeing that I have never left before” she explained.
What she did not need at the moment was his judging eyes when he looked at her. She did not want him to think she planned it and wanted to tag along. She was excited to see another city but it was she was not behind her coming here.
“Let’s go,” Xavier said standing up.
He had unstrapped his seat belt while he watched her sleep. She quickly unstrapped hers and stood up. She felt a little lightheaded but ignored it by concealing with a smile.
“Where are our bags?” she asked as they walked down the plane and Xavier began walking towards the arrival terminal.
“Probably waiting in the car for us” Xavier responded.
She doubled up to match his pace. They entered the busy terminal and the first person her eyes caught was an old man with his entire head grey and a younger man standing beside him holding a placard with letters boldly written. MR. AND MRS. DELGADO FROM CHIACHESTER CITY.
Xavier’s eyes darted across the whole room before they landed and the man. ‘Must be Ethan Ramirez’ Xavier told himself.
Roselle had taken her time to enlighten Xavier of Ethan. She has told him to put on a show in front of him and that way he would easily bag a contract without going back and forth.
Xavier slipped his hand and intertwined his fingers with Jessica. The feeling of her fingers on his felt so warm that he wanted to bury his hand in her. She tried to pull away because of the shock of what was happening but he held her hand still and pressed it a little.
“What are you doing?” she asked in a whisper.
“What am I doing? I am holding the hands of my wife” he told her.
“I meant why” she shot back at him. They were never that close so why was he suddenly doing that?

Jessica knew that she had no choice but to play along. This was not for her to catch feelings but it was for the Delgado family to have a renewal of their contract.
Xavier walked slowly with his hands and Jessica intertwined. He stopped in front of Ethan and smiled.
“And you just be Xavier,” Ethan said. The young and standing beside Ethan dropped the placard and ran over to stand beside them. He bowed his head.
“Allow me to escort you,” the man said raising his head. Ethan Vegan walked ahead and Xavier followed suit.
“Your bags have been safely put in the car,” the young man said as they walked.
“Thank you,” Jessica said turning her head to the man at the back. The man felt elated. Someone thanked him.
In his line of work, it was quite rare for a boss to thank a staff as sweetly as Jessica had done.
“I am glad to serve you,” the man said coming to stand in front of them.
“I am Micheal and I will be your guide throughout your stay here in Aurora Haven. Mr. Ramirez had prepared a lot for…..” Xavier cut him off with a raise of his hand.
“Can we have the details when we settle down? My wife and I are so lagged that we would love to eat a bit before we begin anything” Xavier said.
“That’s a fantastic idea” Micheal exclaimed.
He had no choice but to follow the choice of Xavier. They walked to the car that was ready for them and before they could get there Ethan had gone in his car. The both of them entered the second waiting car and they drove off.
The car drove for a while as if it was going to the outskirts of the city and began to trail a rough road. It branched into another road and they ended up in a house that looked like a cottage. The ones you see in children story books.
“Is this where Mr. Ramirez stays?” Xavier voiced out when he saw how small the house looked in comparison to the kind of wealth he was rumored to have.
“No, it is not but I have been instructed by him to bring you to this personal vacation house as this is where you would be staying” Micheal explained.
Ethan had collaborated with Dawson to help bring both of them together. The plan was to cramp them in a smaller space for a space of almost two weeks. That way they would be close to each other and unconsciously want to lean on each other.
“Okay,” Xavier said skeptically.
He knew that his grandfather had something to do with whatever it was that was going on. It made no sense that they would be brought to a cottage on the outskirts of the city when he had more than enough rooms to cater for them both.
Micheal helped with their bags and wondered how the small bags they had on would be enough for them for two weeks.
‘Maybe they planned to get whatever it is that they might need here’ he thought to himself.
The house was smaller than what they had all envisioned. The kitchenette and room were closely joined and a small stall door for the bathroom and toilet.
Xavier wanted to complain but held his peace when he thought that his grandfather might not have anything to do with the situation.
Ethan might be putting them there on purpose. Was there something he was trying to check?
“Thank you,” Jessica said again and Micheal bowed to leave.
