Branch Eighty Eight
“Are you ever going to come see me in Crescent Bay?” Jason asked Alicia who had escorted him to the airport.
After the launching party, Jason had helped Alicia wrap up and then they had spent the next couple of days with Jason trying to throw his charm around hoping that she would fall for him.
She had decided to give him a ride to the airport since his business partner and friend were not in town at the moment and Jason blessed Xavier in his heart for taking the trip at the moment.
“Well maybe if I get the opportunity to partner with someone there I might be visiting soon,” Alicia said.
Of course, she wanted to go to Crescent Bay and not because of business but she wanted him to invite her over. She wondered how he was yet to ask her out. She sensed his growing affection for her and the way he threw his charm around.
Even if he were not doing anything intentionally to make her fall she had already fallen deeply for him and all she waited for was the question from him and she was giving her answer.
Jason on the other hand was too afraid to ask her out. Everyone in the business world knew her and her tenacity. She was that strong independent woman who did not succumb to the pressure of needing a man to succeed in business.
“Maybe the Jameson would work something around that,” he said smiling.
He took her hand and rubbed it lightly. ‘Oh you fool why don’t you just ask me out now’ she said inwardly.
She might seem strong and confident but she was afraid that she mistook his ordinary kindness for a romantic feeling. She did not want to be humiliated so she decided that it would do her the best to just wait for him.
“I would be looking forward to it,” she said trying to control her emotions that were all over the place. She felt her tummy jump as his warm hands left a hot blaze all over her skin.
“I would not want to miss my flight now,” he said dropping her hands and holding on to his suitcase.
“Give me a call when you get to Crescent Bay. I would be wondering about you” Alicia heard herself say before she could control it.
An involuntary smile climbed up to his lips as he watched Jessica’s face turn crimson red.
“I sure will,” he said wheeling his bag away. Alicia watched as he walked away. She admired his back and smiled inwardly. It would be normal if he avoided her. Her family thought of her as an overly strong woman. There would be no woman who would accept her as her daughter-in-law.
Jason stopped and turned to face. He left his suitcase took long strides to her and stood in her front. Alicia felt her throat knot and she swallowed hard.
“Alicia Gates, I am done being a coward and caring what others say. Even if you reject me at least I would know that I tried my best. Will you be my girlfriend?” Jason said.
Alicia felt overwhelmed and nodded her head. Was her dream coming true?© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
“Oh yes, I would love to” She barely finished her statement when his lips met hers.
“Oh well, would you look at that?” Xavier commented holding his phone and looking down while walking to the kitchen.
He had gotten off the phone with his grandfather and he was currently scrolling through the trending news. At least one thing he was grateful for was that the place still had good reception.
“See this,” he said tapping Jessica on the shoulder. She sighed and turned to him. “Yeah?” she said her eyebrow young up.
He eyes fell on the phone screen and a scream escaped her lips when she saw it. “Has this been going on or is this a recent development?” she asked.
“Recent” Xavier answered promptly.
“I saw the sparks fly during the launch but I never thought they would get together so soon,” Jessica said.
“We all knew that Jason had a crush on Alicia but who would think that Alicia too?” Xavier said in amusement.
“I guess people do not like to show you different sides to them and if you look hard enough you might see it,” she said looking up at his face.
His eyes came up to meet hers. “Are you talking about me by any chance?” he asked.
“Ooh, I have been caught,” Jessica said turning to the stove. She turned it off and turned to him. “Let’s have breakfast” she announced chirpily taking the plates and cutleries to the coffee table.
“There is no table so I guess we have to make do with what we have,” she said as she entered the kitchen again.
Xavier watched as she moved back and forth from the kitchen till her whole spread was complete.
“Do I seem like a different person to you?” he asked as he sat on the couch.
“I thought that conversation ended?” she asked taking a seat beside him.
“I thought it did too but I can’t see you shake it off my mind”
“You know what people say about you right?” she asked.
She did not know what others said about him but she wanted to see how bothered he was about what others said about him. That was the only way she could be unbothered when she spilled her guts.
“Who cares what they say? They always have something to say. Like see now they have quickly jumped to the dating rumors of Alicia and Jason because they were openly sucking each other’s face at the airport” he said.
“Dating rumors?” Jessica asked a laugh escaping her lips. “You do not kiss a girl who you don’t want to date like that it’s all wrong,” she said.
“And how do you know this information?” Xavier asked.
“I just know it’s like a thing girls should know” she replied nonchalantly. She put the meal she had prepared onto the plate and put it in front of him.
“Eat before it gets cold” she added as she put it onto her plate.
“If I do this what does it mean?” Xavier asked pulling Jessica’s face to face his. He inched closer and planted a soft kiss on her lips.
“What does it mean?”
