Accidentally Married

Branch Eighteen

Xavier got home quite exhausted and late. He had meetings with foreign investors as they were all interested in the life of the owner of the company they invested in. He just took over the company in paper although he had been running it ever since Dawson got sick.

“Welcome young master, should I prepare dinner for you and the lady?” one of the house staff asked.

She just happened to be around when he came in and she decided to ask him if she needs to prepare anything.

The house staff saw the news and they were all worried about the young lady. Ever since she got here she had been friendly and made them all feel comfortable. She has not left her room to prepare dinner for herself which was quite strange since she had done so every night.

The staff knew that the young master would turn any food since it was past midnight but she was worried about the young lady not having dinner. They were all worried that she was coupled up in her room crying her eyes out about the rumor.

The staff had discussed it. While some agreed with the blogs majority said she seemed sweet and not the kind of person who would do such a thing.

Most of the members of the staff had worked with other rich families in the city and it was rare for the new house lady to cook herself and offer food to the staff.

They also had a taste and it was still quite rare for them to have such professional touch in their meals. The staff members would be lucky if the lady or her children know how to make instant noodles or even toast for themselves.

“Jessica hasn’t had dinner?” Xavier asked.

He was also kind of worried about her. She was not used to the spotlight all over her. He had his fair share of media struggles when he was younger but ever since his grandfather bought and closed down the media house he had been good.

“Yes young master,” the young girl said.

Her head was bowed so all she could see was his shining shoe. It was getting quite dusty outside yet his shoe shone. The girl wondered if he walked by himself at all.

“Prepare a bowl of oats and bring it up”

Xavier was not going to have such food this late. He was just worried about his wife. It was a normal thing. He had to be worried about her. Fighting against the media was a big deal for the rich not to talk of someone not used to it.

Xavier walked up the stairs and got to the door of his room. He knew he had offended her quite a lot today but she was no different. It crossed his mind that Jessica threatened to lock him out tonight but he believed that she could not lock him out of his room.

He tried to push the door open but it refused to budge. He tried and tried before he heard a voice firm inside.

“Keep it down and do not break down the door. I’m trying to sleep”

Her voice sounded fine. She wasn’t crying. Good to know. How dare she lock him out. He did not believe her threats because nobody threatened him not to talk of doing it.

“Open up the door,” Xavier said rattling the door handle.

“Sleep elsewhere. I told you already” she answered back. He was disturbing her sleep.

“Where?” he asked.

This had been his room all his life.

“Anywhere you want”Jessica shouted.

“I’ll break down the door,” Xavier said. He was getting impatient.

“Go ahead” she screamed back. She didn’t care whatever he did to his house.

She could hardly remember his offense, she was just pissed at him.

Xavier walked away and came back shortly holding the spare key. It was a good thing that the master key was kept as the spare key so even if she had left the hey at the mouth of the keyhole he could still get in.

He pushed the key in and opened up the door. He saw Jessica sitting on the bed. She was not sleeping as she claimed. Her eyes shone as someone poured glitter into them. They were lined with tears.

She was crying but her voice managed to sound normal. Seeing the tears, the anger that Xavier had come in with instantly melted.

“Why are you crying?” he asked awkwardly still standing by the door.

Jessica looked up at him. Was it that he did not know why she was crying or that he was just really bad at consoling others?

Jessica narrowed her eyes at him. He slipped his hand into his pants pocket and shuffled uncomfortably on his feet. Her glare was not a comfortable one.

“Why are you crying?” he asked again.

Was that the best he could do to console? She asked herself.

“Because pigs can’t fly” she answered sarcastically. She did have a thing for dealing with every situation with sarcasm.

His eyebrow went up unable to read the sarcasm in her voice. He wondered why that would be a reason for her to shed tears.ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

“Why would that make you cry? It’s not your fault, it’s just the way pigs were made” he said with seriousness as if he was teaching a kindergarten.

Jessica couldn’t believe that he thought that was why she was crying. His childishness and naivety made her wonder. How could a grown man who headed a company does not even know when she was being sarcastic?

“Don’t cry about something you can’t change” He continued.

Jessica could feel her happy and laughter glands being open. She didn’t know when a laugh escaped her lips. Xavier was now confused. She was crying just a moment ago and now she was laughing.

“Is something funny now?” he asked.

He was not used to being around people so he had a really hard time behaving like everyone else.

“Because you’re being cute,” Jessica said and her hand flew to her mouth.

She only wanted to think that and not say it out loud. Xavier furrowed his eyebrow and scratched his nose. He couldn’t understand her. It was like she was speaking a foreign language.

“What do you mean by that?” He asked.

He had never been referred to as cute since he reached puberty. It was a strange word to use to describe him.

“You possibly do not think I was crying because pigs can’t fly do you?”

“Why would you say that if you don’t mean it?” he asked confused.

He had angrily opened the door to give her a piece of his mind but here he was still in the doorway awkwardly consoling the woman whose emotional change was faster than saying, Jack.

“Ever heard of sarcasm?” Jessica asked standing up.

“I went to Harvard” He answered simply as of he was supposed to give her all the answers to all the questions in the world.

“Well, your Harvard certificate did not teach you what sarcasm is. I was being sarcastic. I was crying because of the news of today and I expected you to know that and not ask me why I am crying” she answered.

“I didn’t want to assume,” he said looking down at his feet.

Jessica glanced at him before her eyes landed on the small girl holding a tray with a few more bowls than necessary.

“The oats you requested for the young master,” she said.
