A Touch From You

Makayla got to her seat, where she would be working and despite herself, she was quite glad to be working in an organization like this. The atmosphere was peaceful and lovely, a far cry from her former place of employment.

Makayla switched on the computer she was to use beginning from today and in all her life, she had never seen anything as beautiful as the computer. She inserted the details Eric had given her a few moments ago and immediately, all the details about the company appeared on the screen.

She read through the first paragraphs and was quite impressed about the company’s achievements. Not only had they won so many awards but Eric had also been invited to give several talks about the dynamics of business and everything generally under the financial sector.

”Wow”, Makayla muttered.

She was beyond impressed about everything they had achieved and she was really proud she was with them. Samantha smiled lightly, glancing at the paper she had. According to what Eric had told her, she was to send the reports to the head accountants office downtown through fax.

Just then, the phone on her desk gave a shrill sound, indicating that a call was coming in. Makayla took a deep breath before putting the phone on her ear. This was going to be her first official correspondence with someone who wanted to do business with them.

”Hello, Makayla Thompson speaking”, she said.

The voice that spoke next was a woman’s. She had a sultry tone to her voice and she knew that the woman was probably expecting Eric to have answered the call.

”Who are you?”, the woman asked.

”My name is Makayla Thompson Mr Eric’s new secretary”, she said.

”I see. Well, is he in? I’d like to speak to him”, the woman said.

”He is. Who should i tell him is calling please”, Makayla said.

”Rita. He knows who i am”, the woman snapped.

Makayla was ready to tell her off but she knew that wouldn’t be good for her. She had to apply etiquette to whatever she did based on who she was working for.

”Alright”, Makayla said.

She muted the call, switching on the intercom. There was a small beep and she knew the line had been connected.

”makayla. Is there a problem?”, Eric asked.

”No, there’s no problem. You have a call waiting for you. There is a Miss Rita waiting on the line”, Makayla said.

Upon hearing her name, Eric stilled. He didn’t expect Rita to call so soon when he had specifically told her not to call his office for whatever reason. He never wanted to see her until the issue between them was resolved.

”Sir. What should I tell her?”, makayla asked.

She was quite worried over his silence and she had a feeling that the name affected him more than he was letting on.

”Tell her I’ll call her soon”, Eric said.

”Alright Sir”, Makayla said.

Makayla cut off the intercom, unmuting the call before placing it back on her ear. She relayed what Nathan had said to the woman but she had a feeling that the woman wasn’t pleased with what she said.

”So Ericis avoiding me”, Rita laughed.

”I’m sorry ma’am but I’m guessing he’s busy with some things at the moment”, Makayla said.

”And what do you know about it huh?”, she snapped.

Makayla sighed, trying to reign down on her anger that was slowly rising to the surface. She was trying everything she could to reign down on her temper but the woman wasn’t helping matters.

”If that would be all ma’am, I’d like to disconnect the call”, Makayla said.

”How rude”, Rita screamed.

Makayla had enough of it. She cut off the call, slamming the receiver on the cradle. She wasn’t going to sit there and listen to a deranged woman scream her head off just because she wanted to speak to her boss.NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.

”People are so rude”, Makayla muttered.

She hissed, going over the files on her table. Just then, she felt a presence in front of her. Looking up, she discovered that Eric was in front of her table.

Makayla stood up immediately not because he deserved it but because it would appear rude if she sat and he continued to speak.

”Do you need anything Sir?”, she asked.

”No, no… I’m alright. It’s lunch break”, he said.

Makayla glanced at her watch and she was quite surprised to see that indeed, the time was far spent.

”Yes, it is”, she said.

”Would you like to go for lunch with me?”, he asked.

Makayla looked up and was quite surprised by his question. She never expected him to ask her that and from the look in his eyes, he was quite serious about it.

”I… I don’t know”, Makayla muttered.

”I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have bothered you”, Eric said.

Makayla nodded, watching as he made his way back into his office. The tension between them was palpable but she stood firm in her resolve to never fall for him again. What he did could be forgivable but she could never forget it.

Never. Eric had hurt her too much and she knew that if she had the chance, she would get back at him without thinking about it.

That was his fate but right now, she was biding her time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.
