A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 938: Pitiful

Before Brendon left the country for a business trip, the atmosphere between him and Ranita was tense.

Brendon’s face turned slightly serious as he apologized, “I’m sorry! I apologize for my previous behavior.”

“Can you listen to my explanation now?” Brendon had long wanted to clarify things about Shannon face-to-face, but Ranita had been ignoring him, making him feel helpless.

Ranita thought about it. She had been angry for so many days and was really tired of it. Moreover, Brendon had just helped her a lot. People say that you should give someone a chance when they help you. Ranita looked at Brendon angrily, “Then go ahead.”

“Ranita, you know I don’t lie!” Brendon stared at her deeply, making her feel a bit guilty as she nodded, “Okay, I’m listening!”Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Brendon moved closer, trapping her in his arms as he lowered his voice and said slowly, “I took Ayaan to change clothes; it was her own decision… I couldn’t just rush over and stop her, could I?”

“Then she fainted, and I took her to the hospital… I didn’t expect to run into you.”

“I really didn’t do it on purpose.” Although Brendon appeared cold, he had been navigating the business world for many years and was good at reading people. He just usually didn’t need to do such things.

Seeing that Ranita’s expression seemed to improve, he seized the opportunity and said, “She always clings to me; I’m so annoyed. You don’t help me at all. I’m so pitiful!”

“I’m truly the most pitiful boyfriend in the world!”

Brendon drooped his eyes, looking genuinely pitiful and aggrieved.

Ranita’s heart softened immediately.

“I…” Ranita was still a bit angry. “Then why did you let her in? If you hadn’t let her in, nothing would have happened!”

“She’s your childhood friend, the little sister you pampered since childhood. You just can’t let go of her!”

Ranita herself didn’t realize how jealous she sounded. She had always felt insecure about Shannon. She feared she could never compare to Shannon.

“Are you jealous?” Brendon pinched her nose gently with his warm fingertips, making her eyes well up with tears.

She was jealous. Even though they were together, Shannon still brazenly appeared between them.

This allowance made her very jealous and very frustrated.

“Who’s jealous!” Ranita stubbornly turned her head away, her eyes already red.

Her long eyelashes were damp with moisture. Even her voice became choked. What good did being jealous do? Could Brendon ignore Shannon forever?

“I’m sorry!” Brendon thought for a moment but could only sigh and say these words.

Ranita didn’t speak. She gently reached out and hugged Brendon. “Forget it, let’s just move past this.”

In the end, she compromised. Maintaining peace was good enough.

“Ranita…”

“Don’t say anything else!” Ranita took a deep breath and let go of him. “I’m going back; you should leave too!”

Brendon held her fingers reluctantly. “I’ll walk you up.”

Ranita thought for a moment and shook her head. “Better not. If my mom sees us, she’ll be upset again.”

Brendon’s face instantly darkened as he complained resentfully, “I have to hide when I’m with you; I’m really too pitiful.”

Ranita glared at him angrily, feeling like hitting him. “Do you want to argue?”
