A Successful Career After Divorce

Ranita slept soundly without a care in the world.

Upon waking up, she looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings and it took her a while to fully come to her senses as if she were still in a dream. She had slept fitfully all night, constantly dreaming of Brendon’s handsome figure from behind.

Ranita turned on her phone.

A lot of information and missed calls flooded in an instant.

She read through it line by line, deliberately ignoring Brendon’s message. After going through the whole thing, she probably knew about Brendon’s frantic search for her last night.

What was the point of looking for her again and again?

Those apologies she had heard too many times and were now tiresome to her.

“Hey Jedidiah! I turned off my phone and went to bed last night, did you call me for something?” Ranita quickly replied, as she was brushing her teeth and speaking with a bit of a muffled voice due to the foam in her mouth.

Jedidiah immediately recognized the sound and chuckled, “Are you brushing your teeth? Finish getting ready and then talk to me, otherwise you’ll definitely have bubbles all over the place.”

“I’m not five years old forever!” Ranita retorted.

When Ranita was a child, she was a chatterbox, always incessantly calling out “brother, brother” non-stop. During that time, her favorite person was her brother. The moment she opened her eyes, she looked for her brother. Even brushing her teeth and washing her face had to be done with Jedidiah.

As she spoke, there were still bubbles forming around her.

Stupid to the extreme!

“You will always be a child in my heart,” Jedidiah continued to laugh, as if recalling a beautiful past. His voice lowered slightly, “I arrived in Kurima last night, so I wanted to ask if you are free and would like to go out for a meal.”

“Can we do it tonight?” Jedidiah paused and added, “Or if not, we can also do it this afternoon! I don’t have anything important to do today.”

Ranita hummed twice and said, “I have something to do at noon, how about tonight?”

Ranita remembered the sapphire necklace in her suitcase and smiled with a twinkle in her eye, “Let’s have dinner together tonight.”

After setting a time, Ranita hung up the phone and soon after, she got ready and had breakfast. She then called Shannon and arranged to meet at a designated location.

“Ranita, I’ll be there on time!” Shannon’s voice was still whiny, which made Ranita feel annoyed. She quickly hung up the phone.

Ranita didn’t mention that she was staying at a hotel. When she left her room and got to the elevator, she saw someone familiar and was startled.

“Jedidiah… what are you doing here?” Ranita stuttered in fear, her face wrinkled with guilt.

Jedidiah seemed thoughtful. “Ranita, I actually wanted to ask why you’re staying at a hotel.”

“I…” Ranita thought quickly and came up with an excuse, “There was a burst pipe in my house and the water is shut off. I didn’t want to bother my friends so I came to stay at the hotel for one night.”

It was just something she said without thinking too much about it.

But Jedidiah took it seriously!

“A burst pipe? Did you call maintenance? It’s not safe for a girl like you to stay alone in a hotel. You need to get it fixed as soon as possible!”

“I did call them! They said they’ll come later tonight to fix it. Don’t worry about me,” Ranita smiled but didn’t expect Jedidiah would say after some thought, “How about this? I’ll go check out your place since these little problems were always solved by myself when I used to live abroad.”
