A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 122 Stirring Up Chaos In The Heart

“Splash-”

A gust of cold wind swept through, causing the haphazardly placed medical records on the table to fall and reveal the bottom page, which happened to be the pregnancy report that Brendon had almost seen…

That night, Brendon did not come back.

Restless throughout the night, Ranita got out early in order to complete her discharge procedures. She returned home, gave Chris a call to change their meeting time and then promptly buried herself under blankets sleeping until dawn broke.

However, it wasn’t exactly peaceful sleep either; she kept waking up every now-and-then with thoughts revolving around Brendon.

At Boulderland Mansion…

Shannon was half-lying on the bed, her eyes shimmering as she looked at Brendon. “Brendon, thank you for taking care of me all night. You didn’t go back to see Ranita, will she be angry?”

Last night, after Brendon came back, Shannon had been holding his hand all night.

She even needed him to be there when she slept, and if he left, she would wake up crying… Brendon had no choice but to stay with her all night.

Brendon stayed up all night and looked a bit tired. “Don’t worry, I’ll talk to her. Ranita is always reasonable and won’t get angry easily.”

“Really? But last night…” Shannon stopped halfway through her sentence and teared up. “It’s all my fault… I’m so useless…”

Shannon was consumed by self-blame, with droopy eyes like a wilting flower that lost its vitality. Anyone who saw her couldn’t help but feel pity for her.

“Okay, don’t blame yourself! You didn’t want this accident to happen either.” Brendon called the servant over to arrange breakfast for Shannon before rushing back to his room to freshen up.

He hurriedly went to the hospital only to find an empty ward. Brendon frowned as he tried calling Ranita on the phone but received a mechanical message saying that the number was busy.

Ranita was throwing a tantrum!

Brendon rushed over to Ranita’s apartment and rang the doorbell for quite some time before it opened.

“Ranita, why didn’t you tell me you were discharged?” Brendon frowned as he saw how pale Ranita looked. His voice softened as he said, “You’re not better yet; why did you leave?”

“I didn’t want to stay in the hospital.” Ranita replied calmly before politely asking, “Is there something you need?”

“Do we have to talk about it outside?”

Ranita opened the door wider and let Brendon into her apartment. She was wearing casual clothes – shorts with a short-sleeved shirt – showing off tender skin on both arms and legs while emitting a fragrant scent when she turned around.

“I went looking for you at the hospital but couldn’t find you… I’m sorry I broke my promise!” After pausing briefly, Brendon explained carefully, “Shannon had nightmares all night…I just couldn’t leave…”

He was worried that Shannon might have nightmares, but he hadn’t expected this. In just a few words, in comparison, it was enough to crush Ranita’s heart into the mud.

“Let’s not bring up the past again. I’m fine, and I want to rest at home. Mr. Stuart, if there’s nothing else, please leave,” Ranita said with her eyes lowered, a hint of frost in her emerald eyes.

Ranitia did not want any more reminders of past hurts that still hadn’t fully healed yet; they were too painful.

“Ranitia.” Brendon lifted his feet and caught up from behind, wrapping his arms around her and turning her around. One arm pressed against her waist, and the other hand held onto her fingers as he leaned in close to her nose. “You can be stubborn when you shouldn’t,” he said.Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.

Breath was close at hand, and a cold face with a hint of smile and helplessness.

Ranita’s heart was in chaos.
