Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Why in the world did she choose to marry him?
Jace did not need Sage to prove anything as throughout the years, everyone in the Yuriel family had witnessed and experienced firsthand how Sage had behaved. She took good care of her husband, her mother-in-law, and she was even respectful to the elders i n the family. One could say that she was the perfect daughter-in-law.
Both his grandparents did not begin to dislike Sage after finding out that she was a Norah.
Looking at Sage, Jace’s grandfather said, “Sage, please do not take to heart what Jace’s uncle has said. He did so because he is still nursing the defeat he suffered at the hands of your father, and his reaction has nothing to do with you. The feud between the Norah and Yuriel family is past us, and it is normal for businesses to compete with each other. Don’t be too hurt by it, okay?”
Jace’s grandmother held Sage’s hands in hers and added gently, “We know who you really are, Sage. You’ve brought happiness to all of us throughout these past years. Now that you’ve returned, stay, won’t you? We’re still a family after all, right, Jay?”
Jace’s grandparents were doing their best to make Sage stay. As they tried to persuade her, they also interwove their desire to reunite the two. Even Faye and Zachary were doing their best to make Sage change her mind.
Freya, on the other hand, pushed her son toward where Sage was standing.
Jace was caught off guard and nearly stumbled into Sage’s arms. He did his best to steady himself and stave off the embarrassment he felt.
Sage merely gave him an amused glance. She did not even offer him a helping hand.
Under the heckling and jeers of his family, Jace looked flustered and embarrassed. He was about to lose his temper, but for some reason, he could not seem to express his rage under Sage’s teasing stare. NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
Why was it that Sage was staring at him like she was staring at a pet?
This was not the first time that Sage had experienced such a situation. In the past three years, Jace’s family too had done whatever they could to match her and Jace together. However, Sage knew better. Love was not something that could be forced.
She knew better.
“Grandpa, grandma, mom, Jay and I are already divorced. We’re probably finalizing the divorce today, and after that, we’ll be on our own separate paths.”
Sage smiled and went on, “I came back today to say my goodbyes and to also thank everyone for your love and care throughout the past three years. We’ll need to address each other differently the next time we meet. You’re most welcome to visit Salem City if you ever miss me. The season for roses has arrived, and they are in full bloom.”
Standing in the rain, Jace watched silently as Sage waved her hand at his family while bidding them goodbye. He then said, “I’ll see her off.”
With an umbrella in his hand, Jace walked out of the house with Sage next to him. Neither of them said anything to each other.
The rain intensified the scent of roses that clung to Sage. He was suddenly reminded of the rose seal that she had gifted him, as well as the roses at Yuriel mansion.
Three cars awaited Sage at the main entrance of the Yuriel family’s old mansion.
Sage’s head assistant, Hunter, and a total of other five assistants were waiting for her next to the cars. As soon as he spotted Sage, Hunter rushed over to her while the other assistant opened one of the car doors for Sage.
“Thank you. See you later then,” Sage thanked Jace politely while waving her hand in goodbye.
Just when Sage was about to get into the car, Jace threw her a question, “Can I ask you something?”
Sage stopped in her tracks, tumed around, and looked at him.
Jace felt a lump in his throat. “You… why did you choose to marry me?”
“Weren’t you the one who chose me?” Sage replied faintly.
Jace froze. He suddenly recalled that it was he who had picked her from a line of other caretakers. He was the one who had chosen her, and he was also the one who had chosen to abandon her.
