Chapter 46
Chapter 46
After Liam took off, Cynthia got up too. She had a simple breakfast waiting for her in the dining room. Enjoying the soup, she caught up with the day’s news on TV.
Compared to Cynthia’s chill life, Yolanda’s world was pretty much a warzone. Yolanda, who used to love sleeping in till noon, was now freaking out in her room with messy hair, still in her pajamas. Stuff was thrown all over the
floor, but the big things were still standing. Her room was a total mess, and the servants didn’t even dare to step in.
Yolanda was usually a tough person to approach. The servants knew better than to try and get close when she was
throwing a temper.
Florence, upon hearing that Yolanda was having a tantrum, skipped her morning jog and made a beeline for Yolanda’s room. Right as she came in, she almost stepped on some shattered glass. Thankfully, one of the servants was right there to warn her just in time.
Seeing Yolanda in the middle of that mess, Florence felt pretty bad. She quickly turned to the servants. “Get this cleaned up, now,” she ordered.
The servants then got right to work, heads down, picking up the mess.
When Yolanda saw Florence, the person who loved her most, she ran into her grandma’s arms, crying, “Grandma, I’m so mortified.”
Florence was confused and asked, “What happened?”
Yolanda whipped out her phone to show the news she had just read. The headline was “The eldest daughter of the Wilde family showed her ignorance in the charity auction“. The article was all about how Yolanda had dropped a whopping 3 million dollars on a toilet at a charity auction. There was even a picture of everyone who nabbed something. They all held these small or super classy items, but there was Yolanda, sticking out like a sore thumb with a toilet right next to her.
There was another photo where people could see Yolanda’s car cruising down the street with that toilet strapped to the trunk, followed by comments from netizens.
[That’s hilarious. Did someone use this toilet?]
[Unbelievable. Out of everything fancy, the rich lady goes for a toilet.]
[Was she bewitched or something?]
[Guys, come on. Everyone at that charity auction was there to help. We should not laugh at her]
[Right, like you’re probably just paid to say nice stuff for her. A real giving person would donate the cash, not just
buy random things.]
[Yeah, I agree.]
Anyone who tried to stick up for Yolanda in the comments got totally torn apart.
Florence was fuming when she saw Yolanda catching all that heat online. “That’s outrageous.”
Yolanda leaned on Florence’s lap, her face streaked with tears. After crying her eyes out for a while, she went into a full–on sob–fest.“Grandma, I’m at a total loss here. I tried to smooth things over with
the reporters last night and even gave them some cash to lay off. But this morning, not only did they dish out the news, they also sent back the
money.”
With her experience in the business world when she was young, Florence immediately calmed down and analyzed the situation for Yolanda. “Someone is obviously behind it. Any chance you ticked someone off last night?”
Yolanda immediately thought of Cynthia. She said anxiously, “Cynthia! It’s got to be her. She set me up last night, and I bet she’s behind this too.”
Florence frowned and thought for a moment. Then she asked, “Do you mean Liam’s wife?”
“Yes,” answered Yolanda.
Florence had a serious look on her face. “She’s probably not the brains of the operation. I guess she got Liam to do
it.”
Yolanda went white as a sheet. She had a sneaking suspicion that was the case. But the Wilde family were small fish compared to the Sullivan family. There was no way she could make Liam back off.

anyway.
The buzz would die down after a while. But Yolanda, as a high–and–mighty young lady from a fancy family, looked down on everyone else. The thought of being the center of scandal wasn’t something she couldn’t stand. She was desperate to clean up this mess right now.
“Let’s go to Mr. David Sullivan.” Florence and Yolanda quickly got dressed and were on their way to the Sullivan
residence.
Meanwhile, over at the Sullivan residence, David and his wife Jasmine were totally into the latest news that got the whole town talking: [Sullivan Group’s big boss just popped the question, and his fiancée’s a knockout!) Right there were two pictures splashed across the page, one showing Liam on bended knee sliding a ring on Cynthia’s finger, the other a cozy shot of the two of them locking in a tight embrace.
Scanning through the comment section, it was like everyone was throwing good vibes their way. But one comment stood out big time. “She’s not my fiancée. She already belongs to me.” That was from Liam himself.
The comment section just blew up. No one expected the big man to jump in like that. It cranked up the excitemen even more, with people tossing out compliments left and right, saying Liam and Cynthia were a perfect match an slinging all sorts of happy wishes their way.
Seeing this, David got goosebumps all over. He uttered his disdain for Liam. “He’s disgusting.”
Jasmine slapped David on the head and said jealously, “Romantic, that’s what he is. You’ve never treated me like that in all our years together.”
David shot back, “I never hit back when you slap me, and never sass back when you yell. Ain’t that enough? You’r a tough one to handle, Only I can put up with you.”
Jasmine was fuming inside, thinking, ‘How dare you talk back?‘ She was about to snap at him, but then their butler popped in, saying Florence and Yolanda had come over.
David and Jasmine exchanged a look. They’d seen matters about Yolanda in the news earlier and had gotten the lowdown from Liam. They didn’t plan on entertaining the visitors. After all, they’d let Yolanda pay for how she treated Cynthia.
But Jasmine and Florence went way back, like childhood besties, so she couldn’t just shut Florence out. Jasmine and David were on the same wavelength. Without missing a beat, Jasmine put on an angry show, banging her cane on the floor. “That’s it, you old goat! Spat out the truth, right? You’re fed up, huh? Well, let’s call it quits then That way, we can both find some late–in–life romance.”
Jasmine was fuming, marching out with her phone and purse in hand while giving David a piece of her mind.
Outside, Florence and Yolanda were milling around, rehearsing their game plan. Out of nowhere, they spotted Jasmine and David stepping out mid–fight.
“You were thinking about a new partner already, huh? I’ll show you!” Jasmine threatened, her cane raised high. David, scared out of his wits, scrambled behind Florence and Yolanda for cover. Florence didn’t even get a chance to say her piece before she jumped in to break up the squabble. “Isn’t it embarrassing, bickering like little kids?”
Jasmine let her stick drop, a sorrowful look on her face. “The old pin-
over me. He’ll marry someone else.”
David was stunned. He thought, ‘That’s not how it went. How could she really sling mud at me?‘
Truth was, in the heat of the moment, Jasmine’s memory slipped a little. She improvised a new story as she stood there, pretending to be heartbroken, sneaking David a quick wink. Getting the hint, David turned tail to the garage and hightailed it out of there in the car.
Florence’s voice shot up when David, bolted. She opened her mouth to say something to Jasmine, but Jasmine beat her to it, looking all sorry. “Florence, my bad. Let’s hang out later. I need to catch up to David and get some
answers.
INSTAL
“Jasmine…” Florence tried to stop her, but Jasmine had already dashed to the garage. In no time, she was behind the wheel, zooming off after David.
Left behind, Florence and Yolanda exchanged puzzled glances. Yolanda couldn’t help but wonder, “Grandma, they have been solid as a rock together for ages. What’s with the fight today?”
Florence answered, “Looks like they’re dodging us on purpose.”
