Chapter 42
Chapter 42
Cynthia turned to see Yolanda with a smug smile. “What’s she gloating about? I’ll show her I can win that, Yolandal
said to herself.
Cynthia took her time before she bid again.
“Okay, we got 650 thousand dollars from the lady over there,” the auctioneer said.
“Now it’s up to 830 thousand dollars.” Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
The auctioneer sounded pretty excited since a big payday was coming.
Everyone watched in disbelief as Cynthia and Yolanda went head to head over a toilet. Cynthia was new to these auctions and not a typical fancy buyer. But Yolanda? She was rich and usually didn’t bother with stuff like this.
Yolanda was set on outbidding Cynthia, no matter what. She paid no mind to everyone’s surprised looks.
Liam leaned in, a bit confused. “You really want this toilet, huh? But we actually have a way more expensive one at home. Well, if you like it, let’s go for it. Who cares if we have to get a new house to fit it in?” he joked, ready to do anything for his wife, and reached for the paddle.
Cynthia quickly stopped him with a look, saying, “Don’t mess around.”
She held his hand. Liam smiled, sitting back without bidding.
“Now we’re at 3 million dollars,” shouted the auctioneer.
Yolanda flinched, unsure whether to keep going. But she really wanted to beat Cynthia.
Cynthia, all calm, turned with a confident pout.
A few seconds later, Yolanda bid again.
“We have 3.5 million dollars.”
The room was shocked. Yolanda was definitely acting crazy today.
She waited for Cynthia to raise the bid, ready to let her win at that ridiculous price.
“Going once for 3.5 million dollars. Going twice for 3.5 million dollars.”
The auctioneer was about to sell it, and Cynthia didn’t budge. Yolanda was getting desperate.
Then Cynthia turned and simply said, “Congrats.”

That was when it was sold to Yolanda for 3.5 million dollars..
Yolanda was boiling mad. She just spent such a fortune on a toilet, which might not even be new, and now everyone would mock her.
“Why did you stop bidding?” Yolanda snapped at Cynthia.
Cynthia gave her a chill smile and said, “Well, I did like it, but you seemed to like it more than I did, so I let you have
it.”
What went around came around. The surrounding crowd snickered inwardly. Yolanda, born with a silver spoon her mouth, had just been outsmarted by an underdog.

At this auction, items were quickly handed over to the new owners by the staff. And now, two workers placed the toilet beside Yolanda as everyone held back their laughs.
Yolanda was super angry.
Cynthia turned and gave Liam a cheeky wink.
Liam, loving the fun, tapped Cynthia’s nose. “You’re quite the trickster.”
Some other items were sold quickly. The tenth item was what Cynthia was after–the Crystal Snow Grass.
“Bidding begins at 3 million dollars,” said the auctioneer.
Only certain people needed this herb, so most didn’t bid.
Cynthia played it cool and waited before bidding.
“Got a 3 million bid from the young lady.”
As the auctioneer spoke, Cynthia glanced at Yolanda. That stare made Yolanda pause. ‘Is this another one of Cynthia’s tricks?‘ she wondered. Yolanda didn’t bid, thinking, “I’m not falling for your game this time. Enjoy paying an arm and a leg.’
It wasn’t until the auctioneer said the Crystal Snow Grass was
Cynthia’s, with no competition, that she could chill out. She’d been waiting for Yolanda to jump in and go nuts with the bidding again. Good thing Cynthia figured her out early and already made her look silly once. As the herb was presented, Cynthia acted like she wasn’t interested, tricking Yolanda into relaxing. Then she got the herb easy–peasy.

A whisper snuck up from behind. ” Ms. Larson’s sharp. That herb’s amazing–it can help with so many rough
sicknesses. If only I had the cash, I’d have gone for it.”
When Yolanda caught on about the herb’s powers, she was so jealous that her face turned livid. She thought she’d scored a point against Cynthia, who spent 3 million dollars on some grass, while Yolanda got a toilet. Now she saw
that Cynthia had the real prize, and her million–dollar toilet was kind of a joke.
“They say Ms. Wilde is worldly and wise, but it doesn’t seem so now.”
“She made a scene over a toilet and then ignored the actual treasure.”
“She may look the part of a high–society lady, but she sure doesn’t act like one.”
Yolanda, who lived for twenty years never feeling this low, wanted to split but was stuck in her front– row seat with people all around. Walking out would just make a bigger scene. So, she sat there, boiling, giving Cynthia the evil
eye.
Cynthia, though, didn’t care about the rest of the auction. She flipped through the old medical book she just got, totally into it.
While the auctioneer, hyped up, kept the sale rolling, the big showstopper was next–the room got quiet.
Cynthia put down her book to check out the stage. What got her attention was this one–of–a–kind diamond ring, ten carats big.
“This is our last piece of the night, folks–the ‘Star of the Ocean“,” the auctioneer announced. “This ring’s got a cool history. The first guy who owned it used it to propose a hundred years ago, and the couple was together forever after. All the other owners had some serious long–lasting love, too. Some sweet old lady, who recently lost her husband, gave it to us so it could bring lifelong love to the next person.”
With a story like that, everybody in the place was hooked, dreaming of that kind of love story.
“We start at 30 million dollars,” the auctioneer began, “and go up by 3 million dollars.”
