“No, I can’t leave you guys behind.” Cynthia was worried.

Meanwhile, the police were urging Samuel to hang up the phone. Fearing that Cynthia might come, he quickly said, “Boss, it won’t help if you come over now. It will only result in you being detained. You focus on what needs to be done. If you succeed in taking over Larson Group, everything we did today will be worthwhile.”

The phone then beeped, most likely because the police forcefully hung up.

Cynthia put down the phone and stared coldly at Mason. “Sign the papers. I will reclaim the shares today, regardless of what you do.”

Samuel was right. Mason had called the police in the company’s name. Samuel and the others would be fine if she took over the company and decided not to pursue their actions.

“You don’t about your friends anymore?” Mason asked.

Cynthia propped her hands on the table, her expression hostile. “To tell you the truth, they find your behavior intolerable as well. They would rather be detained to assist me in reclaiming the company.”

Mason’s wrinkled face was filled with remorse as he examined the will and share transfer agreement on the table. “You’d abandon your friends just for the shares? I didn’t expect you to become so cold–blooded after living in the countryside for a few years.”

Hearing that, Cynthia sneered. “You abandoned your own daughter in the countryside. What right do you have to criticize me?”

Suddenly, there was a commotion outside the office. A group of middle–aged men walked in.

Seeing them, Mason‘ quickly stood up to greet them. “What brings you all here?” Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

Those men, furious, stepped forward and took Mason’s side, voicing their opinions. “Mr. Larson, we disagree with handing over the company to

Ms. Larson.”

“Exactly. There’s no way a woman like Ms. Larson could run the company efficiently.”

“I believe Ms. Larson’s immediate priority should be to learn proper manners, not to run the company.”

“Someone who doesn’t respect her seniors will never be able to manage the

company effectively.”

Those men were shareholders who joined the company after Mason’s takeover.

Mason was secretly delighted as he listened to their remarks, but he kept a sorrowful expression. “My daughter has been rebellious since she was a child, and I apologize for her disrespectful behavior. This family matter of mine has unfortunately impacted the company, for which I sincerely apologize once more.”

The other shareholders echoed their support. “Mr. Larson, what are you saying? We’ve followed you for so many years and will always stand by your side.”

Cynthia was not in a hurry to speak. Instead, she listened to their words calmly. Those men, relying on their seniority, ignored her presence from the moment they entered the room. After they

finished their polite exchanges, Cynthia finally spoke up. “If I remember correctly, we’ve never met before. How can you be so certain of my upbringing?”

One of the shareholders angrily pulled out his phone and played a video. “Look at this! You should be ashamed of yourself for acting this way toward your own father.”

The video captured the scene in the office earlier. Cynthia’s being disrespectful to Mason was clearly recorded as the audio played. Cynthia turned to the office camera after determining where the video was recorded. Suddenly, she sneered. ‘No wonder, despite my rude behavior, he maintained a friendly demeanor. He had anticipated this,‘ she reasoned inwardly. Cynthia placed the phone back on the table and asked in a deep voice, “Where did you get this video?”

The man put away his phone with a disdainful look. “Your actions have been recorded. By now, the internet should be flooded with negative comments about you. To quell public outrage, I recommend that you quickly apologize to your father and promise not to interfere with the company’s affairs.”

Cynthia looked at Mason, her eyes narrowing slightly. With a cold, mocking tone, she asked, “Does using such underhanded tactics against your own daughter make you a good father?”

The shareholders, who had been indignant a moment ago, were now at a loss for words. They had focused on Cynthia’s defiance in the video without considering whether it was acceptable to use such a method against one’s own daughter. Cynthia’s remark alerted them to that. Even if she was disobedient, her parents should not have treated her that way. Seeing the shareholders‘ uncertainty, Mason glanced nervously at the camera. He had considered using public opinion to force Cynthia to give up her shares. Their argument was being streamed live, and he was monitoring the comments. Although the netizens initially criticized Cynthia, some were now defending her. Mason’s mind raced as he considered how to turn the situation around.

Suddenly, he bowed his head, showing a conflicted and sorrowful expression. “I didn’t want this to happen. After all, she’s my daughter. Perhaps she never regarded me as her father. She has had a strong personality since she was a child. What happened in the video is something that happens all the time at home. Even if I told anyone about this, they wouldn’t believe me. If she hadn’t insisted on getting involved in the company, I wouldn’t have done this. A twenty–year–old girl cannot possibly manage the company. This company is my wife’s legacy. I can’t let her ruin it.”

His words not only expressed his deep affection for his late wife but also justified his actions as a last resort, portraying Cynthia as an unfilial daughter. It was a spectacular move.

Hearing that, Cynthia started clapping. “Well said.”

Mason was perplexed by Cynthia’s reaction, and a bad feeling arose within him.

As expected, what Cynthia said next caused him to break out in a cold sweat. “Mason, you mentioned that I have been headstrong since I was a child, right? Do you even remember what I was like as a child?”

Before Mason could respond, others jumped in to answer. “Of course! A father knows the most about his daughter’s upbringing.”

Cynthia sneered. “It seems you don’t know Mr. Larson well. Even though my mother was his first wife, I’m not regarded as the eldest daughter of the Larson family. Do you know why?”

Everyone was confAW

They knew Mason had two daughters, but they had only met Roseanne and had never heard anything about the other one. They assumed that Cynthia was shy and disliked going out. Furthermore, Mason frequently brought up Roseanne at work, causing everyone to forget about Cynthia.

Ignoring their bewilderment, Cynthia continued, “Here’s the fun part. The mistress‘ daughter is older than his legitimate wife’s. Can such a man be considered a good husband? After his legitimate wife died in an accident, he quickly brought the mistress and her daughter into his house while sending his legitimate daughter to the countryside, completely neglecting her. If it weren’t for my grandfather taking care of me despite his illness, I probably would’ve died shortly afterward. Tell me. Is he deserving of being a father?” Cynthia’s expression was cold, as if she were recounting someone else’s story
