” Who’s it? ” He asked with his brows slightly raised. Shane realized he hadn’t been speaking actual words. ” Oh ” He muttered. ” It’s Layla ” He added and Alec muttered an * oh *.

” Hey ” Shane said over the phone. ” Um.. hi ” Layla’s voice came in a whisper. It sounded like she was being forced to talk and Shane couldn’t help but ask if she was okay.

” Is everything okay? ” Shane asked and he pictured her nodding as she didn’t reply for some seconds.

” Yeah I’m fine ” She mumbled. ” So?… You called?… ” Shane started as he took a glance at Alec who seemed very much interested in their conversation as he listened intently.

” Yeah, I.. made a mistake… It was unintentional, sorry if that disturbed you ” She lied. ” No you didn’t. It’s fine ” He said quickly. ” Oh, okay then. Bye ” She muttered and he nodded. ” Bye ” He said too and she ended the call.

Shane sighed and then looked up at Alec. ” And that’s all?.. ” He asked and Shane raised his brows confusedly. ” What? ” He asked and Alec let out a scoff. ” That was the most boring conversation ever. Y’all didn’t really talk about interesting things ” Alec replied and Shane scoffed.

” What are we supposed to talk about?, She’s probably trying to mind her business and I should do that too ” He muttered, his expression almost changing to a sad one.

Alec let out a chuckle. ” You look like a small kid whose candy had just been snatched away from him. You should be cool with it anyways, I mean you have a wife now “Alec said in a sarcastic tone.

” What do you mean? ” Shane asked ignorantly and Alec only smiled at him. ” Nothing, everything’s fine ” He muttered. Shane wasn’t satisfied with his answer but was really not bothered about whatever he had in mind.

” So, don’t you think we should go grab a coffee today again? At that coffee shop where Layla works ” Alec suggested. Shane thought about it for a while before finally agreeing to it as he let out a nod.

” Yeah, we should do that ” He replied with a small smile. He let out a sigh, staring at the files in front of him. The were lots of them and he was beginning to get tired as he kept scrolling through them.

” So, you called Brielle and she didn’t pick? ” Alec suddenly asked. He was still thinking about the whole situation. Shane let out a nod without looking up from what he was doing.

” Wow that’s really ridiculous and so bad of her. I mean why would she do that?, If she’s aware that she ain’t really interested in the marriage, she could had just cut the contract off. But why’s she suddenly acting so different? ” Alec asked confusedly, tho the question was directed to him, he was asking himself. Shane felt the need to answer.

” She’s not acting different… ” He paused, dropping the bunch of files he was holding.

” It’s just her. It’s always been her and it will always be her. The uncaring her, the business lover her and the selfless her. All these had always been her, I was aware of all these then, but felt okay with it. I was strongly blinded by love.. ” He paused and let out a chuckle.

” Love is indeed funny at times ” He muttered to himself. Alec shook his head.

” You could still correct it. There’s nothing wrong with cancelling the contract ” He advised Shane for the umpteenth time, but he refused and stood his ground. ” I can’t, we are married already ” He said, refusing again. ” Alright then ” Alec said with an heavy sigh as he gave up on confusing his best friend.

He suddenly looked up at Shane who was still busy with the files. ” Are you still in love with Brielle? ” He asked and the question seemed to caught Shane off guard as he suddenly stared into space, lost in thoughts. Is he still in love with his contract wife whom he had fallen for then?

He still feel a thing for her right?, He kept asking himself in his head. ” Shane! ” Alec brought him out of his thoughts. ” You’re not even sure if you are still in love with her ” Alec said, not really suprised.

” Stop! You’re confusing me! ” Shane scolded Alec and he let out a scoff.

” Yeah whatever ” He muttered and got up and headed straight into Shane’s room while Shane followed him behind.

” I think she likes you anyways ” Alec suddenly said, breaking the long period of silence between them. Shane turned his head sideways to Alec in shock. His brows were fully raised in shock.

” Likes you ” Alec completed for him. ” How?.. how’s that possible?, She’s aware I have a wife and she never really liked me from the beginning, so what’re.. ” Shane said confusedly. Alec let out a chuckle. ” You find out yourself then ” He said and closed his eyes slowly, leaving Shane I’m confusion as he stared at Alec’s closed eyes like he was expecting a response but got none.

He finally gave up and looked away but those five words wouldn’t stop ringing in his ears. ” I think she likes you ” Those words kept ringing simultaneously in his head.

He tried so hard to brush it off but couldn’t stop thinking about it. Is Alec right?, But she had never shown a trait of her liking him. They gets into argument and nags a lot. How’s this possible?

He was finally able to get the thoughts off his head and fall to sleep.

* Mocha Coffee Shop *

” Evening sire ” The servers ushered Shane into the shop with big smiles on their face. Shane returned the smile lightly as they walked them to their special reserved VIP seat.

Alec sat down first and Shane did the same, taking a quick glance round the shop in search of Layla.

” I don’t think she’s here ” Alec muttered to him, looking around. Shane nodded. ” Yeah, I don’t think she’s around ” He muttered slowly. ” Bro ” Alec called out to one of the severs and he hurried over to them with a bow. ” Um, do you perhaps know Layla?, She works here ” He asked, looking up at him and Shane was also doing the same. ” Um, she came for the morning shift. She works part time here ” He replied earnestly and Alec nodded.

” Do you perhaps know when she would be available? ” Alec asked. ” I’m not really sure when sire ” He replied. ” Oh my!, You two are here again ” Mr Cyrus gushed as he rushed over to them. He’s the shop owner.

” Hey!, You.. what are you doing here!?, Go get them some cups of our special coffee! ” He shouted at the guy and he hurried off immediately. He let out a little smile as he turned to them.

” I’m so sorry sires. You two are really welcome here. Please feel free to stay here for as long as you want ” He said more like a plead. He knows too well that if they stay for some minutes more, they would attract lots of customers as it happened on their first coming.

By now, customers had begin troop in. Their previous coming some days ago made them tons of money.

” Um.. sure. But we would leave soon, we have a limited time here. ” Alec replied and Mr Cyrus nodded with a smile. ” Of course I’m aware, you guys are rich business owners, you barely have time for all these ” He said in smiles and Alec returned the smile.

” Do you two need anything at all? ” He asked as he noticed the duo’s eyes on his.

Shane who had been quiet all through finally talked. ” Layla. Do you have a worker having that name? ” He asked the most obvious question ever. ” Sure. Do you perhaps know her? ” He asked excitedly. If he truly knew her, that would be of great advantage to him. He could use Layla to always lure this important figure to come to his coffee shop frequently and with this, he could become really rich in any time.

” Do you know her? ” He asked again eagerly.
