A Billionaire’s Ruse

“I appreciate your support but at this point in time, we need immediate measures that can help stabilize our economic situation” I said to him trying to make him see reasons with me.

“I hope you know what you are doing?” he asked me before hanging up the call

I was worried by the reaction of my lawyer but I knew this was the only meaningful thing to do at the moment.

I was still thinking about this when I heard the buzzing sound of my telephone.

“Hello” I said after picking up the call

“Hello sir” I heard the other person say with excitement in his voiceBelongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

“Why are you so excited?” I enquired

“We have gotten some good news Mr. Thorton.” The person on the other side said and judging from his voice

“Tell me. What is it?” I asked becoming impatient with the suspense. I have never been a fan of suspense all my life and I was not about to start now

“The meeting you had with Mr. Alexander pierce seem to be having some results” he said

“What do you mean?” I asked

“We just received a transfer of $1. 5 billion into the company’s account” He said

“What!” I exclaimed.

“Tell me you are joking.” I said over the phone.

“I am not, boss.” He said to me, I laughed so hard forgetting that I was still on the phone when he spoke up again

“What do we do now, boss?” he asked

“we will wait for Mr. Alexander Pierce’s call and know the next step so we can sign the necessary documents” I said

“OK, boss.” He replied ending the call

I stood In amazement. I could not believe what I just heard. I was right after all. I trusted him and he delivered on his promise.

I cannot wait to finally see my company return to it’s formal glory.

Alexander’s POV

“Hello, prepare and go to the office of Mr. Thornton now. He just received an alert of $1. 5 billion” Michael said immediately I picked the call.

“Wow. That is good news but how did you do this?” I asked him because he never told me anything about his plan to make sure they receive the fund I promised them.

All this time, I have been thinking he will simply use the document to extort more funds from the Thornton’s

“That is not your business, Alex. Go there and tell him to sign the document making you a co-owner of the company, just like you have always wanted” He said to me.

“But what will I tell him if he wants to know how I got the money?” I asked him

“So you have forgotten so soon that you told him that you are the owner of a big company?” he asked me

“I still remember it like the back of my palms” I said to him, smiling deeply.

He hung up immediately. I was getting used to his attitude. Besides, I have gotten what I truly wanted from him and his stupid character is no longer important again.

I sat down imagining how my life is about to be transformed as a result of this single transaction.

I took a quick analysis of the company’s worth and I smiled when I remembered I now have a 45% share in all these. All thanks to Michael Hastings and his dubious plan. They both came through for me.

I made a mental note to investigate how he came about the money. I was not foolish to keep quiet without investigating how he went about all these to get such an amount.

I called my hired driver.

“Hello” I said, feigning a deep baritone voice.

“Hello sir” the other person replied from the other end.

“I need you to come to my house in the next one hour with one of your luxury car immediately” I said to him

“OK sir. I hope you know our rates per hour?” The man said, rather arrogantly.

“Can you just get the car and a driver to the address I will send to you” I barked trying to match his tune

“OK sir” he said. Just then, I hung up the call.

Today, I will write my name in the book of the wealthy. I’m sure to have gathered enough money before my twin brother returns.

I was feeling impatient when I noticed that the driver was delaying unnecessarily. I was about to call the driver again when I saw him driving into my compound.

“You should have taken more time, you know? I wonder why you have to spend a million years before you get here.” I said to him when I came out of my room dressed in my suit and tie.

“I am sorry sir. I had to call the mechanic to ensure that everything was in check. You know these are luxury cars and we have few experts who can work on these types of cars” He said to me.

“That is your freaking problem. I need your service and I need it quickly. I’m about to lose my appointment.” I said to him,

“I am sorry sir. I want to kindly remind you that our rate is $100 per hour.” He said to me.

“Are you for real right now? Are you really doing this even after I told you that I am late for my appointment already? Of course I know the goddamn rate” I said to him rudely.

“I’m sorry sir” He replied when he noticed I was angry by his statement. I am starting to think that this driver is out to annoy me today..

“Will you please open the car? I have an appointment in the next thirty minutes. We do not have all day.” I said to him,

“Okay.” He responded, moving to open the car for me.

I boarded the car and sat down still fuming at this guy’s audacity.

I looked at myself in the mirror once again trying to correct any thing that seems to be odd about my dressing. I cannot afford to look off for such a meeting because the success of my plan depends on this a great deal.

I walked into the office of Mr. Thornton and was welcomed like a king. I am sure he doubted how genuine I was at first but now he had no reason to doubt me again.
