Chapter 148

“Did Natalle Just up and leave him like that?” Brian deepened his brows, his eyes darting back to

Sadle.

His son was burning up with lever and she had the heart to just abandon him? All content is © N0velDrama.Org.

“Natalle took care of Nate all day yesterday. She even stayed the night, slept right there in his room.”

Sadie Immediately came to Natalle’s defense.

Brian pushed the door open and tested the temperature with the back of his hand. It was a bit. too

warm for comfort.

He stared at Nate’s flushed little face on the bed, took a deep breath, and steadied his breathing.

“Natalie is so cold–hearted.” he thought.

“Mr. Howard…”

“Get Benjamin here!” Brian cut Sadie off before she could say another word, his voice stern.

Sadie trembled with shock, not daring to utter another sound, and quickly went to call Benjamin.

When Benjamin arrived, Sadie and two other maids were standing outside the door, heads bowed in

silence, the tension in the house palpable.

Benjamin had no clue what had gotten into Brian this time. As he entered, he saw Brian sitting on a

couch beside the small bed, his gaze dark and fixed on the sleeping Nate.

Benjamin stepped forward and felt Nate’s forehead. It was getting warmer again. He promptly took out

some medicine from his bag.

“You know Nate’s always been delicate. Why lash out at them like this?” He spoke with gravity as he

prepared a syringe.

Brian remained silent. After a moment, Benjamin shifted the topic. “I’ve got news for you. Remington’s

been short–staffed and reaching out to me for the past couple of months, hoping | could lend a hand.

Being a field medic is no easy job. If I take it, I might not be back for six months to a year. My nephew

here ain’t got many talents, but he’s good at digging me out of a hole. If I decide to go, I’ll give you the

contact of a friend of mine. He’s reliable, been a team. medic for a while. I…”

“Robert wasn’t on the plane.”

Benjamin was cut off mid–sentence by Brian’s low voice. He paused, looking up at Brian.

The matter of Robert had been eating away at Brian. Due to the recent issues with Audrey and Natalie,

Brian’s sleep had been getting worse by the day. As his personal doctor, Benjamin was acutely aware

of his physical state.

“Not being on the plane is a good thing, isn’t it?” Benjamin tried to inject some hope into his voice.

“Maybe he never got on…”

“There’s no maybe. Airport surveillance caught him boarding the plane with his assistants. He was on

that plane,” Brian said softly, his eyes fixed outside the window.

“When they salvaged the wreckage, the cabin was fractured. His body might be at the bottom of the

ocean, never to be found.”

Benjamin acknowledged the logic in Brian’s words, his mind initially filled with the grim possibility of not

being able to recover even Robert’s remains.

Benjamin was silent for a long moment before asking softly, “Was there any significant information or

leads in the black box?”

“The incident happened so suddenly. From the malfunction to the crash, two minutes and twenty–five

seconds, no leads,” Brian replied quietly.

Benjamin didn’t know what to say, feeling for the first time that his usually quick wit had failed him.

“Brian, as long as the person isn’t found, there’s always the possibility of a miracle,” Benjamin said

tentatively, patting Brian’s shoulder gently.

Anything more seemed futile. The knot in Brian’s heart wouldn’t loosen unless he did it himself. “If he’s

still out there, he’ll come back,” Brian said with a faint smile.

But it had been nearly four years, and there had been no sign of Robert.

“Even if he’s gone, I need to see his remains with my eyes to believe it,” Benjamin said, furrowing his

brow.
