Revenge Against My Ex-husband

Chapter 141 We Have Our Own Way Around

Chapter 141 We Have Our Own Way Around

For the past few days, all Rowane could think about was Marie. Eventually, she decided not to tell Edric

that she knew Marie just as she had been instructed.

After finding out that Marie wasn't Rowane's mother, Edric even comforted Rowane and promised to

help find her mother.

Rowane felt uneasy about lying to Edric about the entire situation. She was never one to lie and cheat,

so hiding something like this made her very uncomfortable.

Unexpectedly, Marie came to look for her one day. Marie mentioned that she felt guilty for not being a

responsible mother for so many years. Now that Marie was rich, she wanted to do right by Rowane and

sponsor her studies abroad. To study abroad was a dream to many; naturally, Rowane was tempted by

Marie's offer.

When Marie saw that Rowane's eyes lit up at her proposal, Marie stated that she would arrange for

everything right away. Marie told Rowane to resign from her position at Edric's company immediately,

but Rowane was a little hesitant. Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.

Admittedly, Rowane harbored feelings for Edric because not only had he helped her when she was in

trouble, but also because of how capable he was. A man like him would definitely draw the attention of

many women.

However, Edric didn't share the same thought as hers. He focused all his attention on Irene. Rowane

knew that she agreed to study abroad not because of Marie's attractive offer but because she wanted

to forget Edric.

A one-sided love was much too painful for Rowane, and she felt that she could no longer stay by

Edric's side. Right now, the only option was for her to leave him and forget about him completely.

Before Marie allowed her to declare their relationship, Rowanne had to resign and leave Edric's

company. The best way to do this was to go abroad and study there.

Just as Rowane was going to inform Edric about her resignation, she noticed his face that was covered

with scratch marks. She didn't even need to think about who the culprit was. Only Irene could have her

way like this.

It was an unspoken rule that during fights, one could hurt any body part except for the face. It was clear

that Irene's intention was to embarrass Edric. Although this was a matter between both of them,

Rowane could feel a sense of resentment against Irene growing inside her chest.

"Irene is so cruel! Edric is willing to do anything for her. Hell, he does not even mind tarnishing his own

reputation! What more does this woman want?" Rowanne thought to herself.

In the end, she didn't inform Edric about her resignation. Instead, she went back to her office. On this

day, she was frustrated and flustered. When she returned home in the evening, Marie dropped by with

a bag of fruits for her.

Once again, she talked about Rowanne furthering her studies abroad before she asked if Rowane had

resigned. Rowanne could only shake her head in reply. She mentioned what she witnessed in the office

earlier in the day and that it was not a good opportunity to bring her resignation up, lest she make

things awkward.

Marie looked at her thoughtfully. "Rowane, is this because you have a thing for Edric, and you can't

bear to leave him?"

"No, that's not true." Rowane shut her down immediately.

"I've seen a lot in my days, and I can tell how you're feeling from that look in your eyes. Edric is a

wonderful man. It's not wrong for you to like him." Marie sighed. "But Edric's heart has always belonged

to Irene, and he's not going to fall for someone else. You better not bet your heart on him. I don't want

you ending up like Lily."

"Isn't Lily the mistress? What's there to pity about her?" Rowane retorted.

"Lily isn't the mistress. Irene is. I know about this entire situation better than you." Then, Marie

proceeded to tell Rowane about how Lily and Irene were sisters. However, she tweaked the story to

make it look like Lily and Edric were childhood sweethearts and that Irene was the mistress. She said

that Irene had dumped Nathan, who was infatuated with her, just to ruin Lily and Edric's relationship.

Marie twisted the truth and told Rowanne that Irene had manipulated Edric into sleeping with her, finally

forcing him to marry her.

"It's not that she's barren; she just doesn't want to give birth to Edric's child, 'cause her heart belongs to

Nathan. She plans to reconcile with Nathan eventually. After Edric and she got married, she still met

Nathan secretly. Margaret was furious when she found out about it, so she forced them to get a

divorce. Not because Irene was infertile, but because she had an affair."

"She actually had an affair?" Rowane's mouth hung open in surprise. She couldn't imagine that Edric,

whom she held so highly in her heart, would actually be stepped on by someone else.

"Not only did she cheat, but she's also a very vicious woman. Let me let you in on something else.

Irene used her infertility as an excuse to argue with Margaret 24/7, creating havoc in the family. If that

wasn't enough, she forced Steven to make Lily her surrogate. Lily felt that she owed Irene this much,

so they went along with it. Yet, Irene only became even crueler. When Lily was three months pregnant,

she shoved Lily so hard that she suffered a miscarriage. Because of this, Margaret had no choice but

to allow Irene to file a divorce with Edric," added Marie.

"So this was the reason behind the divorce?" Somehow, Marie had managed to slide in all the lies so

casually between the truth that it sounded believable. Naturally, Rowanne fell for Marie's words. Since

Rowane had never been fond of Irene, she said in a firm voice, "I never thought Irene would be like

this."

"Yeah, the Myers Group is wealthy, so they wanted to compensate her handsomely during the divorce.

But that woman was so sinister that she left without accepting the alimony the Myers family gave.

That's why Edric still feels guilty about it until now," Marie continued to spout her nonsense.

"After divorcing Edric, she got together with Nathan. However, the White family is strict and old-

fashioned. Irene couldn't get things to go her way. Madam Britney wouldn't allow her grandson to marry

a divorced woman."

"So that child of hers belongs to Nathan?" asked Rowane.

"Well, after divorcing Edric, she planned to wrap her hands around Nathan, but Madam Britney

disapproved. She spent three years of her life being Nathan's secret lover and even gave birth to his

child. When she heard that Lily and Edric were getting engaged soon, she couldn't sit still, so she

rushed back to ruin everything." Marie's ability to distort the truth was top-notch.

"Irene is a spiteful person; seeing how Deborah and Lily stole Steven away from her mother, she

wanted to get her revenge. Margaret knew her true character, so she strongly opposed their

relationship, but Edric was too kind and he felt for her tricks again. He always trusted her."

It was true that Irene showed up when Edric and Lily were about to get engaged; this convinced

Rowane even more. "If that's the case, then why didn't anyone expose her?"

"She's far too good at lying! Not only did she lie to Edric, but she also made him believe that she

suffered a lot of hardship after the divorce. Look at what happened the last time, Irene and Jordan

worked together to put on a brilliant act. They were trying to frame Lily, and they insisted that Lily had

hired someone to slander her. I watch Lily grow up with my own two eyes, and I know what a kind and

caring girl she is. How could someone like her do such a thing? She did this to ruin Lily's reputation,

and that's why she's using others to frame Lily!"

"That's right. All of us felt the whole situation was odd. Wasn't Irene the one who hired people to do

that? How could she turn the finger on to Miss Cook?" Rowane shook her head.

"It's all Irene's fault. She would do anything to ruin Lily. Edric had no other choice, so he had to go on

TV to clear Lily's name. Just like that, a perfect couple was separated. I can't help feeling sorry for

them. If Irene really loved Edric, then fair enough, but she's just doing all this for revenge. Edric felt bad

seeing how pitiful she looked after the divorce, and he blamed it all on himself. He wanted to do right by

her, but of course, Irene refused his financial compensation. She just wanted to make him feel bad,

thus pushing him to break up with Lily. Edric's not any better. How could he believe such an evil

woman? Doesn't he see how our innocent Lily has been wronged?"

Thinking of how ruthless Irene was towards Edric, Rowane agreed that someone who was truly in love

would never resort to these means. "How could Irene be so cruel?!"

"Also, it was Margaret's birthday last Friday. When Margaret invited Lily over for dinner, Irene started

throwing a fit again. She was afraid that something would go on between Edric and Lily, so she kept

calling him non-stop. The only reason Edric was there that night was to accompany his mother, but she

insisted for John to go over and pick Edric home. The entire birthday dinner was ruined because of her.

Margaret was so mad she burst into tears." Marie created yet another lie.

"No wonder there were scars on Edric's face. Irene must've scratched him." Rowane quickly connected

the dots.

"That's right; she's such a shrewd. When she was married to Edric, she often quarreled with Margaret.

She made the entire family a mess." Marie didn't know that there were scars on Edric's face, but when

she heard Rowane say it, she immediately seized the chance to pin it onto Irene.

"That woman is too despiteful!" Rowane was so irate that she shouted, "We can't continue to be

blindsided like this. We have to teach her a lesson!"

After Marie left, Rowane sat and thought about the whole thing for a long time. Even though she wasn't

close to Irene, she felt that she had to sit Irene down for a good talk after listening to Marie's story.

When Irene received Rowane's invite, she didn't know how to interpret it. She'd never had a good

impression from Edric's little fangirl since the start. Irene didn't understand why such a young girl was

willing to play the role of someone's secret lover instead of finding other means of income. Even though

Edric insisted that it was all just for show, Irene was still skeptical about all of it.

Rowane had a lot of qualifications, and she could've easily gotten any other position. Choosing such a

job only showed how flawed her character was. Rowane and Irene didn't have a good impression of

each other, so one could imagine how things were going to turn out.

"What can I do for you, Miss Wood?" Irene went straight to the point.

"I want to talk to you about Edric."

The word 'Edric' made Irene uncomfortable. "About Edric? I'm sorry, did I hear you correctly?"

"You did, I just want to ask you, Miss Nelson, do you love Edric?"

"What does any of this have anything to do with you?" Irene asked. Judging from Rowane's tone of

voice, she figured that Rowane didn't think of Edric as just her boss. Things were already bad enough

with Lily's involvement, and now Irene had Rowane to worry about. This annoyed Irene tremendously.

All that bullsh*t was about starting over again. With all these weeds around bothering them, Irene was

never going to associate herself with Edric again in this lifetime.

"Of course, it has something to do with me. If you really love Edric, then I'll give you my blessings. But I

hope you'll stop clinging onto him, Edric has suffered a lot these few years, and I hope you'll let him

go," answered Rowane.

"Clinging onto him?" Irene hissed. These words truly irked her. She glared at Rowane coldly. "Aren't

you overstepping your position, Miss Wood? May I ask, who are you to Edric? What right do you have

to come here and say this to me?"

"I... I'm his friend..." stammered Rowane.

"Friend?" Irene laughed sarcastically. "There are only a few kinds of friends in this world. Some are

acquaintances whom you just nod at; some are loyal friends who would risk their lives for you, and

there are others whom you get to know through business deals and transactions. I wonder, Miss Wood,

what sort of friend do you fall under?"
