He shook his head lightly. His eyes were red and wet. “Must I beg you on my knees?”

I knew at that very moment that he was remorseful. I could feel it.

As I sat in the car and watched, Chris removed his suit jacket and held it in his hand. He kicked the air a couple of times, releasing his frustration, and slowly walked into the distance. At that moment, I knew. Chris and I were completely over.

Meanwhile, Jewel became uneasy, seeing that I did not show up or respond to her text. Hence, she called

I couldn’t bother to pick up the phone while I was still dealing with my emotions and immediately declined her call. Then, she sent me another message. “Hey, Madeline. I just want to talk to you about something. I mean no harm. I’ll still be here waiting for you.”

Her last line was obviously trying to pressure and threaten me, but I paid no heed to it. She could wait all day for all I cared.
