Chapter 179

Conrad knew the gist of things. He glanced at Brandon and defended him. “I’m sure Mr. Howell will resolve the issue and keep his private matters out of work. The security is also at fault for not guarding against the trespassers. This isn’t entirely Mr. Howell’s fault.”

Red with anger, Chris did not anticipate Conrad to be so brazenly defensive of Brandon. He had embarrassed him.

“Since the amusement park is under my management now, you can leave the rest to me, Mr. Chris.” Conrad implied that Chris had overstepped his authority.

At that point, Chris was fuming. Had it been someone other than this brother saying that, they would have been kicked out long ago.

“Fine. If something similar happens again, you’ll suffer the consequences too.” The livid Chris left with this remark.

Seeing him depart, I finally relaxed. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

Then, Conrad told Brandon, “I want a written report regarding today’s incident. As for the affected facilities, I’ll contact the technicians to fix them, while you or your company will bear the cost.” His solution was well–justified and fair.

Being a responsible person, Brandon accepted the condition.

With that, Conrad merely nodded and left without looking at me. I knew he wouldn’t have defended Brandon if it weren’t for me. His feelings for me were open yet restrained, and he opposed his

brother for my sake. What Conrad did for me only made me feel remorseful, like I could not repay him enough.

Since the issue was over, I decided to leave after glancing at Brandon. My car was just about to exit from the amusement park premises when Chris‘ vehicle came to block me. He alighted from his car and entered into my passenger seat. “Drive.”

I had no clue what he wanted. “Please be quick and forward, Mr. Gildon. I need to go to work.”

“I said, drive!” He was so angry that he grabbed at his collar,

I knew opposing him would do me no good, considering his livid state. Thus, I grabbed my steering wheel and asked, “Where to, Mr. Gildon?”

“I told you to start driving!” Chris roared again.

Knowing whatever I said next would be useless, I stepped on the gas pedal and drove away. Even without a destination, I knew to send him back to the Gildon estate.

Chris noticed something amiss. “I didn’t tell you to drive me home.”

“You didn’t tell me not to,” I argued back.

“What do you want from me, Madeline? You saw it yourself earlier. Brandon isn’t a good guy. He managed to get into trouble with those punks, who–mind you–had no issue destroying Gildon Corporation’s property!

“That shows how strong their backing is. Who knows what else they’ll do to you?” It was rare for Chris to say so much at once.

I understood that he wanted me to stay away from Brandon, or those troublemakers would come for me.

“Did you forget? There was once a girl who liked you so much that she locked me in the morgue just to

scare me away. She threatened that if I didn’t leave you alone, she’d leave me there to die. But I stood by you, even after I escaped. I remained as your girlfriend. My words made Chris uncomfortable.

“I’m not one to bow down to threats; I’m not one to run when something bad happens either,” I enunciated as I looked at Chris.

“Don’t get so cocky, Madeline!” He removed his necktie and wrapped it in his palm.

“I’m done with you, Chris. You don’t have to care if I’m abducted, dead, or alive. You have someone else

to worry about.” I had just finished speaking when a text notification rang out.

My phone was connected to the car, and the dashboard monitor flashed. It displayed a text message

from Jewel. “I’ll be waiting for you here, Madeline.”
