A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 132 Crossing the Threshold

After taking care of the trash, Ranita handed the car keys on the table to Brendon and said, “You’ve changed the bandage; it’s time for you to go back.”

Brendon looked around the apartment, not very spacious but cozy in its arrangement. It was Ranita’s domain, and everywhere bore the traces of her life. She enjoyed reading foreign books, so the coffee table was filled with such books. Their room used to have these books too. Brendon felt a bit nostalgic.

Ever since Ranita left Boulderland Mansion, it felt like someone had taken a small piece of his heart. At first, he thought it would heal over time, but he soon realized that the wound was festering and wouldn’t get better.

“Ranita, how about I stay here for a couple of days and take care of you? I’ll leave once you’re better,” Brendon feigned a pretext to hide his true intentions.

Ranita looked at him steadily, “Take care of me? Can you do laundry and cook? Can you mop the floor and fold clothes?”

Brendon was taken aback by her questions.

“Mr. Stuart, you’d better go home. If you stay here, I might end up taking care of you!”

Ranita didn’t really want Brendon to leave, but what could she do? Moreover, if Brendon stayed, Shannon would likely call him hundreds of times in a day, which she wanted to avoid.

“Ranita!” Brendon felt belittled, his cheeks reddening. “Don’t underestimate me! I won’t be Brendon if I can’t even take care of a woman!”

“I’ll have someone bring my luggage over.”

Ranita couldn’t stop Brendon, and she watched as he boldly entered the premises, shamelessly inputting his fingerprint into the electronic door lock.

Brendon placed the luggage in the bedroom and raised an eyebrow, looking at the bed that was only one and a half meters wide. “This bed is a bit small.”

“It’s not as spacious as Boulderland Mansion’s. Would you rather go back?” Ranita replied, and Brendon had already opened his suitcase, neatly hanging his clean clothes in her wardrobe.

Half for each of them.

Ranita’s heart felt both choked and stuffed as she went to the small study. She tidied up the materials on the desk and received a call from Chris. Ranita put on her headset, answering the call as she continued to clean up, “Hello?”

“Ranita, it’s me,” Chris paused and continued, “Have you rested yet?”

“Not yet,” Ranita had originally scheduled a meeting with Chris for work, but due to her injury, she had to cancel it at the last moment. Ranita was always strict when it came to work, and she apologized, “I’m sorry for causing a delay in your plans.”Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.

“It’s okay. Today was just a preliminary meeting. And you’re still going to help with the negotiations in a few days, right?”

“Okay!” Ranita chuckled softly, her tone relaxed.

Click. The door opened.

Brendon walked in, tall and elegant.

He held onto her shoulders and leaned down slightly, bringing his cheek close to hers as he whispered into her ear, “Who were you talking to on the phone?”

His deep voice was low enough to be heard through her earphones.

There was silence on Chris’ end for a few seconds before he spoke up again, “Is Brendon there too?”

“I’ll study the materials carefully these next few days. If I have any questions, I’ll contact you promptly. I have to go now.” Ranita politely ended the call and turned back towards Brendon. “What’s wrong?”

Brendon caught sight of “Chris” on her locked screen before she could put it away.

“Who called you just now?” He probed.

“A friend,” Ranita replied nonchalantly while avoiding eye contact with him.

Brendon’s expression faltered slightly as he lowered his gaze and concealed his emotions behind a veil of indifference. “Is that so?”

Ranita had lied to him.

Sometimes even Brendon couldn’t understand why Steve or Chris seemed so familiar with Ranita despite not having spent much time together previously?
